    I don't understand why more Florida hikers don't take advantage of the cool early morning before the oppressive heat takes hold. I am certainly not a morning person but being out on the trail at dawn is the best thing.
    Thank you for your videos and the leadership you show

    This is the time of year for the prescribed burns, the forest service has been doing a lot in my area of Florida this week

    I've hiked through burned-out places a few times in my life. Somewhat sad when you see the destruction, but as you said, it is the way the earth clears itself IF it wasn't man-caused.

      Many of these fires are man-made because we have controlled burns here in Florida to prevent wildfires getting too crazy

      I'll try to at least put my me markers in more often, and people can track me through far out guide.

      @@probationtermination I am about 4 hours from the river to river through hike trail in Southern IL. My husband and I are wanting to go hike in Shawnee National Forest in that area this year. My goal is to load up on fresh fruit and drinks and do some trail magic on a couple of areas. It's only a 10- 13 day hike but I sure they will still be happy with it.

    Thank you for posting these videos, I am retiring to Florida in a year, and am very interested in doing the Florida trail. Coming from NE we have to be mindful of bears, hanging our food, etc, what do you do about alligators?

    • @probationtermination
      @probationtermination  Před 2 lety

      "Just knock em in the head with a stump"
      A line from a Jerry Reed song, Amos Moses.
      Alligators look scary, but we are not on their food chain. Mostly they just run away when you get to close to them. A few precautions, don't get your water from a culvert, don't mess with them, and avoid getting water at dawn and dusk. That's mainly when they feed. When you get water try not to squat down and make yourself small, as they might mistake you for a smaller prey. Other than that you just leave them alone. Hope this helps.

      @@probationtermination Yes, a little, lol. I saw a picture of someone peeking out of his tent with at least 10 alligators around. Not sure if that was a photoshopped picture or not. Maybe I will wait on the Florida Trail, or at least have someone else go with me.
