    I liked the fall-off of the hard light through diffusion. The soft unit was throwing more onto the wall and I like the subtle separation you achieved.

    Glad to see someone talking about this light. It immediately caught my eye a few months ago since 600w of hard light is pretty impressive for the size and price given it's basically a bicolor vortex 8 at half the size, 2/3 the weight, and 1/5 the price...

      Yes, I didn’t go into much detail re crossfading and the like, but no doubt other CZcamsrs will get to that. There is a lot to like in the offerings from Godox. What I don’t know about is customer support and repairs. It’s something a number of us have been harping on because it’s what we expect from brands that are offering “pro” tools, but is often lacking from newer, rapidly rising brands.

    Love that opening move with the mask ... but slow ... it ... down!
    Yours in one of the best "backstage" video shows offered on CZcams.
    Thanks for taking the time and care with it. And not using fill light on this one!

      Thanks for watching and responding. I’m actually trying a few different changes, tempo being one, along with snappier Titles and Thumbnail, as part of a CZcams related experiment😆 Some things may work while others may not!

    Awesome Work. Loving these reviews. Could you test the F600 going through an 8x8?

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Thank you. My apologies, but I probably won’t be making a separate video for that one test. It’s going to act in a similar way, and would probably work best with a double break, where you spread the beam with a small frame of diffusion before it gets to the 8x8, like an inner baffle in a larger soft box. Hope that helps!

    DJI is expanding into so many different markets. And it would seem with quality products that are in demand. Such a departure from the drone company they started out as. Let us know how that mic kit performs over time Luke.

      To this point, I’ve been using the Sennheiser AVX system with Lumix GH cameras and it works great. Recently, I added a handheld with a newish Sennheiser wireless system that also works well with mirrorless cameras. I had tried the original Lark system from Hollyland, but it stopped working pretty early on. Now they have a Lark Max system, which has hopefully fixed earlier issues. Rode is out with a similar set, that a lot of CZcamsrs are touting. I bought the DJI set and so far so good.

      @@meetthegaffer I also use (and swear by) the Sennheiser AVX system as well...on the BMPCC 6k (yes, I pull my own focus) and love this set-up.

      @@meetthegaffer Also use the AVX for OMB sit-downs , what are the advantages over the AVX , ? besides internal recording ? is that the reason you changed .. advantage I found with AVX is its using 1.9 GHz where all the others are 2.4Ghz , which is the same as mobile phones or something like that .. are these also 2.4Ghz.? Also how are you finding the intellytech mega6 , thought you might have used it for this video .

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  Před 9 měsíci +1

      @robinprobyn1971 I’ll keep using the AVX, but the DJI is a nice back up and really well suited to get good audio while working with the iPhone when my GH setup is too cumbersome or not fast enough.
      I haven’t used the 6FC in a bit, just because the 4x4 has been super handy and locations large enough to accommodate the extra size. The Intellytech is easier to fly (menace arm) when I need something brighter than an Air Mat and not as large as a COB with a dome.

    The test with the P600Bi outside the house at the end is impressive. Do you think you can have something "similar" in the global illumination of the scene with the f600bi and the grid? Thanks

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  Před 7 měsíci

      For the inside comparison we used the same diffusion with both units. On the outside I wanted to see how the “hard” light aspect of the unit would play. The Flex light doesn’t really have a similar hard light aspect, even without the diffusion. The F600Bi would not have the same punch or characteristic because its emitters are spread out much more than the small panel’s emitters.

  • @geraltstelenheimcorneliust8180

    DO you know if the F600 light mat can fold to (roughly) 30x60cm, or is it limited to 60x60cm? I need to find this out as i'd be transporting the light in a thinktank production manager case. Thanks for the great reviews!

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  Před 9 měsíci

      It’s possible that the 60x60 could be folded over slightly, but not flat. I don’t know if that would fit into the case you are refusing to.

    I need to know where you purchased the mannequin head. Most places have cheap foam or they are bright white or black. Thank you in advance.

  • @sammorganmoore
    @sammorganmoore Před 9 měsíci +1

    As a hard fixture hits a diff maybe 30% of the light bounces back off to behind the set - this would make the 180FC vs 220FC to be entirely as expected fir the same watts burned. This bounce/leak can provide fill to the scene.. or just be a waste. neither hard or soft seems good or bad. Pack down.. this we could have seen a little more of. In the past I though hard light + softbox got smaller than a big (say 2.1) panel like a sky panel, but if these soft panels stack or roll they could pack very efficiently. Id guess a 3.3 or 4.4 soft panel is better than a 1.1 panel (which you cant do a good beam with anyway) but a 600 into an 8.8 might be more better than either and take a fresnel too for other lighting styles.

    • @meetthegaffer
      @meetthegaffer  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Yes, a lot of ways to get a similar outcome. Again, with a hard light you usually create a larger footprint. Trade-offs abound.

    • @sammorganmoore
      @sammorganmoore Před 9 měsíci +3

      @@meetthegaffer yep the floppy panels are a massive win for (not) taking space on the set. Ive completed a film recently and the F21c was the winning fixture.

      @@TheSpivJust search for make-up heads or similar. I would aim for between really light and really dark skin and some contours, nose, so you know what you’re into if someone’s features are more prominent. Hedley comes with glasses too, which is good for seeing how your light will play in reflections. Some people add a wig or build up the complexion with putty. There are YT videos available😉
