    I loved the intro so much

  • @kiribundi
    @kiribundi Před rokem +194

    I think all that's missing in the bounce's design would be to make the edge between colors fuzzier. It would help making the reflections more natural

    • @althenimble
      @althenimble Před rokem +16

      Yes, maybe even some pseudo-random complexity like camouflage. I've often wanted something like that on set when using ultra bounce and feeling the same way about it that Nicholas describes here.

    • @katlis
      @katlis Před rokem +1

      @@althenimble I don't think you'll notice any random pattern from a camo bounce. Perhaps use a projection gobo setup through a scrim? I haven't tried before.

    • @bluffbounce
      @bluffbounce Před rokem +1

      Yes! that would be the ideal! It would make them much more expensive to make. Often there will be some sort of thin curtain built in to the set and that diffuses the transistion between the colours.

    • @Chandler_Goodrich
      @Chandler_Goodrich Před 11 měsíci +4

      Maybe, but I’ve noticed that the horizon doesn’t softly transition between sky and ground. So really, I think the design they have now is MORE realistic than that.

    • @curtthackeray8967
      @curtthackeray8967 Před 11 měsíci

      Also.. I know it would get defused to all holy hell.. but I wonder what would happen if you put some random black rectangles, either to one side.. or in the middle.. like a backlit skyline.. what effect that would have on breaking it up a bit..

  • @-Flynn
    @-Flynn Před rokem +71

    Tremendous intro. I love when cinematography/video channels actually weave some kind of narrative style into their reviews or breakdowns in that way. Stuff like that is often just as educational as the full videos because I get to see some techniques to use when you're both in front of and behind the camera at the same time haha.

  • @oliver_howells
    @oliver_howells Před rokem +56

    That intro is crazy, respect the effort! Also great breakdown, I actually do like how the bluff bounce adds that subtle change in colour to the room or objects. 👌🏻

    I really love the natural skin tone (even if it's just a minor touch). One personal note is the harsh line between the white and blue on the reflections (such as the cabinet) seeming a bit unnatural to me. Maybe V2 can almost have an ombre shift between the two colors. Sweet vid!

    • @iYoVisuals
      @iYoVisuals Před rokem

      Yep... This v1 is a great concept. However, I agree if it was ombre in a variety of colors it'd be a hit, and make a ton of sense for a lot of practical productions.

    • @robertdouble559
      @robertdouble559 Před rokem

      All of those issues could be solved by bouncing a gradient of several feathered/colored lights off something white. What a WANK product.

  • @JacobMcAllister
    @JacobMcAllister Před rokem +30

    It has its place. It works as a solid out of focus backdrop in windows. I think the harsh blue reflections on objects is completely unrealistic and the white bounce looks so much better. However, in the shot of the MacBook at 4:53, the blue reflection looks really nice. Not a replacement, just another tool. Cool to know it's out there.

    • @jonathanbergqvist4897
      @jonathanbergqvist4897 Před rokem +2

      Agreed! I wonder how blue the actual sky really gets in a direct comparison with reflections.. It feels like the effect doesn't really reflect what would be natural if it were just the blue sky out there. After filming a lot of objects through the years that must have reflected the blue sky in the background, I cant say that what I see with the blue reflection in this video seems relatable to the real world.

  • @BlaineWestropp1
    @BlaineWestropp1 Před rokem +30

    The king is back! I’ve always wanted to try one of these. The reflections in objects around the room, and when you actually see it a little bit out the window are cool. Sick shades bro.

  • @marcusmezzano
    @marcusmezzano Před rokem +13

    Amazing how clearly it bounces onto the objects but the skin absorbs 95% of it. Like the other comments have said I bet it would be better if the colors had a gradient to them 🔥

    The hard cut-off between different colours makes this sort of a dealbreaker. The transition from one colour to the next on that fabric should be graceful and diffused rather than a hard dividing line.

  • @KenFlanagan
    @KenFlanagan Před rokem +1

    Interesting with some logic but not sure it makes sense in reality. Quite specific result but great that people are trying new things. I know using flags and scrim is what we are supposed to do but i have never really understood why we dont have graduated reflectors or graduated diffusion. Think Deakins cove light and creating a softer fall off would be so easy. I know placing flags or extra diffusion is more controllable but its so easy to end up with a spaghetti of stands and arms. Meanwhile my current favourite thing to do is use a mirror as a bounce as if its a window source. So often a room might seem dead or for practical reason the window is in the wrong place. I dont mean mirrored glass, more the plastic light and cheap ones. I know its not exactly news but doing that with some coloured filter in front or few branches or cucoloris to break things up often helps create a more lived in set of reflections and the highlights have a sharpness that creates some interesting texture. So many ways to do it and usually so little time. Thx as always

    Very cool product. I could see how it could be used outside a window with/without curtains. And you use the colored fabric to block nearby buildings/houses from being seen through the window. Instead, there is the blue from the Bluffbounce screen giving the impression of a sky when the location is across the street from other houses or in the city. Plus, as mentioned, the colors from the screen bouncing off of objects in the foreground. A great way of adding mood or depth to the shot.

    I think this has fantastic potential to make reflection highlights really interesting, but they look a little unnatural at that saturation level. Overall I like the concept but sweet spot to me would be less colour saturation in the fabric. Also smoother gradation and blending between colours would help as many have said.
