From an old metal hand , BEAUTIFUL . fascinating is an understatement . Ringmaker is just a word the reality is much more . Please continue to pass this knowledge on so many basic fundamentals are hidden in what you do . A difference in cutting the ring from the base metal and calling the out of the metal are night an day , skill in both but shades apart .

Jake Thejeweller I wish I could learn to do things like this, but I dont think anyone would take me on, Im 62 years old and disabled, so ill just have to stick with my polymer clay items and my bead jewelry. Though anyone reading this, take your chance if you can get it, ill just keep dreaming........might even just keep having a go with my gem/stone wire wrapping. Thanks Jake for the comment it’s appreciated. Ann x

that s just beautiful, Ive never even heard of this mix before. It looks like a copper damascus if you will. Ive been working on making alloys of aluminium in my foundry (just experimenting to try and come up with stronger aluminium). And I made an alloy of aluminium and silver that is already alloyed with tin. It turned to be a fairly strong alloy in comparison to its idividual pure metals. It still deforms slightly when hammered for a good while but it takes alot more abuse. It does eventual fail and because it has very little elasticity, it actually cracks instead of bending like its parent metals. It polishes very nicely to a beautiful white mirror and it is not very heavy at all. It formed pointed spikes sticking up on the outer rim of the ingot when I cast it and the are very hard as well, and sharp pointed which leads me to have fairly high hopes that it can possibly hold a nice sharp edge if it is cast or cold forged into a knife. I wouldnt want to hot forge it though because of the negative affects heat has on aluminium. Its nothing as pretty as this ring you made but it is a very promising metal.

Beautiful video! As a professional artist/craftsman myself, I can notice and appreciate the hard earned discipline, artistry, and experience you're demonstrating. I recently started expanding my metallurgical experience beyond knifemaking after deciding to cast my own bronze finger planes for lutherie. This has led me to an interest in making a set of makume rings for my girlfriend and I with the precious metals I've salvaged over the years and sourced from a local river. I've been looking for a couple hours to find a good video, and this is by far the best I've come across. I understood the basic principles, but seeing the details of the work itself is incredibly helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to show your process in such great detail! It will be a priceless source of reference for me!

Now that I've watched the whole video, I'd just like to say, holy shit that's incredibly beautiful. Your craftsmanship is amazing and something to strive for. As someone before me said, you have mad skills! I watch you hammer the twist into a rounded form on your bench block without touching the block with your hammer. You've been at this a while, huh? Mine is nicked. Arg. I hate you. So is my ring mandrel. I made a copper sheath to cover it to help avoid hitting it with my hammers. I'll get there and I don't really hate you. I'm quite in awe of your skills and jealous.
