- The Banaue Rice Terraces (Filipino: Hagdan-hagdang Palayan ng Banawe) are terraces that were carved into the mountains of Banaue, Ifugao, in the Philippines, by the ancestors of the Igorot people. The terraces are occasionally called the "Eighth Wonder of the World".[It is commonly thought that the terraces were built with minimal equipment, largely by handThe terraces are located approximately 1,500 meters (4,900 feet) above sea level. These are fed by an ancient irrigation system from the rainforests above the terraces. It is said that if the steps were put end to end, it would encircle half of the globeoften opting for the more lucrative hospitality industry generated by the terraces.[The result is the gradual erosion of the characteristic "steps", which require constant reconstruction and care. In 2010, a further problem encountered was drought, with the terraces drying up completely in March of that year1500Nevertheless, rice is an ancient ancestral crop of the Philippines, having been carried by Austronesian migrations into the islands since at least 1500 BCE (3500 yoears ago).Current threats to the terraces include the giant earthworms ("olang" in Ifugao) of the genus Pheretima or Polypheretima elongata which are blamed for causing damage to the terraces,as well as rodents of the genus Chrotomis mindorensis, and snails.[
The dew that the shrubs collected through the night was still cradled in their leaves’ lovely embrace when we arrived at Kiltepan Viewpoint. While time seemed to stand still for these droplets, we were hurrying to the top of the hill as fast as we could, trying to catch the sunrise. We cut the fog that blanketed the trees and carefully trod to the top, all the while trying to avoid stepping on the red mud. We ended up catching our breaths, our footwear covered in mud and our eyes feasting on this heavenly spectacle that unfolded before our eyes.
The sun emerged from the sea of clouds and its first rays broke through with indescribable wonder. We tried to take all marvels in - although it seems impossible - as we stood there and watched the sun signal the start of day. It was amazing.
Kiltepan Viewpoint is the most popular spot to catch the famous Sagada sunrise. The fading darkness reveals an ocean of white clouds blanketing the hills and the valleys below. The sun peeks like a curious god, saying hello to its creation. As the sun inches from the horizon, the clouds part - if you’re lucky - and reveal the magnificent terraces underneath.

The rice terraces of Banaue are truly a sight to behold. The rice terraces carved into the mountains are truly the 8th Wonder of the World. We are also very lucky to be able to see the famous Sagada sunrise from Kiltepan Viewpoint. It is nature's best scenery. I really enjoyed watching it because it introduced me to such a beautiful and wonderful place.

It's great to see the rice terraces in Banaue! I know that the rice terraces that the ancestors of the Igorot people carved out on Mt. Banaue are also called the "Eighth Wonder of the World," and it's great to see them in this video today. And you look so cool and beautiful!
