  • I built this kit as a fantasy/tribute car if Ford had continued with Bud Moore in the Trans-Am series through 1973. This one is not built stock but as a road race car. I do still address how it would be as a stock build. This video is longer than most as I chose to start with unboxing, a review mid-build, some notes on the AMT version and some discussion of the inspiration for the build. Construction took 2 weeks as it was part of an online build challenge. Intended for adult model builders and not for children.

Testors Metal "Ultra Detail" model kit did a good job if you ask me. No painting required, but you can tell some bits are sourced from this original because it has that goofy radiator too.

I really like the three tone color combination of your it reminds me of the Trans AM races of that era I would have put bigger tires wider tires front and rear and those mini lite Wheels I would have used the little bit deeper ones that you would find in other AMT kits. Also I would have done a lot of work in the engine bay area to close everything in. When you look down into your engine bay you can see the tires. Should have covered up those wheel wells better with sheets of plastic. Other than that I think your model is awesome looking.

Thanks for your build and frank review of this kit. I've just got one and am not sure if I'm building it or breaking it for parts😂. Best wishes from jolly old England👍😎 Pete 🤓

I just realized you don’t even have 100 subs. I assumed you had like a thousand

As a guy who owned a real 1973 Mustang Mach 1 I was somewhat let down by this kit. Not the best representation of a true 73 Stang. If you want to make a realistic version of this cars street version your going to have to do some kit bashing and scratchbuilding. Also you’ll have to find some TRUE Mach 1 rims and decals.

Revell came out with an all-new kit this year. It's on my shelf waiting for a build.

Hello there, I must say you sound like you are bored to death with this kit. I have built this kit myself and there is some issues with a small amount of flash , but other than that the kit seemed fine. My other question is if MPC kits are your least favorite why do you bother building them? This is supposed to be an enjoyable hobby. All of your negativity may be a turnoff to some builders especially younger people that are just getting into the hobby. If you are that critical of these kits maybe stick to the high dollar kits like Tamiya, they don't have any flash for you to deal with and the parts always got perfectly. The other choice is maybe find a different hobby? Needless to say I did not subscribe to your site. There is enough negativity in this world without complaining about a $25.00 model kit .

Hi Harold. I give honest reviews because there are people new to the hobby that may buy these reissues thinking they are comparable to modern kits. I'd like them to avoid disappointment. I do enjoy building even mediocre ones like this MPC Mustang. With many kits there are no other options; in the case of the Mustang AMT does make one but it has it's own bag of problems as it can't be built stock either. Round2 is to be commended for bringing all of these back again even if they aren't spectacular. More experience builders can still make good models from them but box stock folks should know just how crude some of these old kits are. I am fair to MPC when justified; see my CJ-5 build for a glowing review.
