    Welcome to our CZcams channel!
    We are loving family that live in Bamboo Huts in Rural Thailand. Damo (me), Ryan (my husband), and Otis (Our Son) spend our days taking care of the land and the animals and enjoying each others company.

    Formally Ryan worked for "The Coffee Club Thailand" Chain, but now we have opted for a simpler lifestyle, and living in "The Now". On the vlog we will show you what it is like to live in Rural Thailand, details on plants we grow on our land, and most importantly our honest and authentic selves, the good, the bad and the ugly.

    17k for tyres (3.5k each) and undercarriage torsion bars seems decent..
    Big reputable garages always offer competitive prices (among themselves and smaller shops) cuz they buy at volumes wholesale price from manufacturers /suppliers and even sell retail to smaller shops-
    Keep this in mind ya..

Good you are strong enough to work the farm. Great to see the family. Y'all are awesome parents too. Otis is so cute. Enjoyed watching him at the piano with Dad. I'm curious how the mechanics felt about you being inside their shop. Here in the US every shop has a sign that says no customers allowed. Was that the case there, did they have that type of sign or policy? Or maybe you were able to explain to them about your CZcams page and advertising their shop, so they were a little more accommodating? That would be awesome.

    • @paulhellickson2985
      @paulhellickson2985 Před 2 lety

      By the way, that would be an extremely fair price here in the US for that kind of work. That type of work in the United States would probably run $1000 or more... not including the tires.

    • @paulhellickson2985
      @paulhellickson2985 Před 2 lety

      Price of those wheels was a lot cheaper as well. All terrain wheels like that in the United States would run you $800 easy.

    they're tires, or tyres to you guys...same price as here, ironic as (at least) Michelin's are made in Thailand. What REALLY costs bigtime is labor here, mechanics often get $75 an hour. More in many places. I'm thrifty :) I do a set at a time, hate to have to go all in on 4 each time. Looks like a center link (each tire steering control links to it). Decent price, been pricing those for my truck, that quality would cost MORE than that here for sure. Unless they're cracked or somehow deformed, rim changes are cosmetic.

    Hey Ryan and Damo and Otis, a lovely video as usual. I haven't driven a car in 2 years. I'm not sure I really want to living in Bangkok. There are so many people that have no idea how bad they are at driving, it just makes it scary to even be a passenger in a car, especially when it comes to being in my friends car. He has no idea how bad he is at driving. It's almost like they gave them car's and forgot to tell them how to drive them. When I asked my friend how he learned how to drive he said "on the internet." What more do I need to say.

    We had good experience with Cockpit too. They recycled our old tyres, but we had to take the old brake shoes with us. They did not recycle them as scrap metal. That was strange for me. Cockpit is definitely better than some of the smaller garages; they sometimes did more damage than help. Also I learned, you have to have some knowledge yourself when you have no access to a good garage. If they cannot identify the right thing, they just replace something to look good, but wasted your money and gave you false sense of security.

    Good idea not to ignore car problems like that. It’s a heavy vehicle with poor road handling, so stay safe by keeping brakes, shock absorbers etc. in good order. And get the best tyres you can afford. They are the only part of the vehicle that make contact with the road, so they are extremely important. If you are on rough roads a lot, steel wheels while heavier are often repairable if they get bent. The same thing that bends a steel wheel will destroy (crack) a magnesium alloy wheel.

I haven't had a car in 5 years now and just need it once a month when I go out to run errands, supermarket shopping, etc... I just borrow my girlfriend's car when I need it. I am amazed about the prices for car repairs there. Here in the US, as you might expect, prices are much higher. There are places that will sell you 4 tires for $1,000 dollars so you really have to shop around. Since I am retired and out of the rat race, I don't have to deal with those kind of things anymore. Cheers!

    You will be In Cambodia soon ( well, when the border opens)Good to keep your brakes up to scratch, pads are cheap while machining the brake disc is expensive.

    That was very cheap compared to Uk prices! You had a lot of work done on it.

    Your “best piece of advise” is indeed the “best piece of advise”. When it comes to price negotiations I walk away and let my Thai wife step in and “go to town” on the negotiation as I will always be given the “Farang” price.

    The price for breaks and shocks varies so much from car to car but you still got a very fair price. Be happy they weren't an audio break job. In US last year front breaks on an Audi I had was nearly $1,000USD :-O.......after a quote for one headlight replace at $1200 got rid of Audi :-)

    If you do head off to Pai, I'll let you know where to find our regular mechanic :)
    We had one excellent guy who did everything except the major services on our HiLux for years, but unfortunately he's sold up and moved down south. Luckily another moved to town a few years ago and he is pretty good.
