Yes the tourist areas in Thailand are really suffering but a lot of the small villages such as the one I live in with my Thai wife are booming as people return to their home villages setting up new local businesses, fix up their homes and go back to a more simple, sustainable way of life.

lots of that "devastation" has been going on for ten years as backpackers moved onto the new hip places, like Laos (until they too got a big fed up and killed off the bars along the river to curb the drunken farang on inner tubes numbers). As the all inclusive big money resorts came in the property values and RENTS went WAY up and some of that devastation was done by business owners forced out by gentrification, before they left.

The first place I went to in 2009 after meeting a Belgian lady, can't remember her name now, from BB Divers. Bang Bao was a quiet place to get back to from Lonely Beach. There were just a few dozen great bars who would have rotate the entertainment nights between them as there were so few backpackers then. Returned there in 2019 and was shocked to see the amount of development that had taken place in 10 years. Even more shocked now to see the near devestation brought about by the pandemic. Perhaps it will return again to its more basic roots in the years to come.

I am on day 31 of about 59 or so in Thailand. Currently in Ao Nang. The financial devastation I have witnessed first hand is heart breaking. Phi Phi is a ghost town compared to what it was. Ao Nang is riddled with closed businesses and empty restaurants. Thing, is as long as Thailand insists on negative tests upon arrival and then again 5 days later, the risk is far far too great of a risk to take for the majority of tourists. Things will not recover until then. One more note I DESPISE the mask rules. I am weary to death of not seeing people's facial expressions, especially here in Thailand. All for optics. Sigh....

Every official involved in the lockdowns needs to be put behind bars. Every country needs to pass ani lockdown laws to ensure this never happens again. There is never justification for politicians, technocrats or anyone else to limit the inalienable rights and freedoms that all people have. People are always free to stay home isolated from others. But limiting their activities and movement for any reason is tyranny and illegal under most countries’ constitutions. We need Nuremberg 2 NOW to hold all complicit parties fully accountable.

It's so sad to see how many regular people have lost everything they have worked for. Big business is flourishing in this nonsense, but the small guys are crushed. Many folks feel that was why this happened. Gov'ts like Thailand are too small and dependent on China to ever get retribution from them as well. Thailand should look at Florida as an example of its time to open back up and let it be. Florida businesses are all getting back to normal, lowest hospitalizations in the nation. Many Thai people who were working in tourist areas have returned home to their families in the countryside. This puts a strain on their parents but the parents are very happy to have their children home to help on the farm and eat together. The money that their children were sent home has now dried up but still, most people seem to be taking it in stride. I live in very rural Isaan between Nong Khai and Udon Thani and I see a lot of house building going on now that the rice, sugar cane, and wood harvest is done. This tells me that the local farmers are prospering in some way which is good to see. .

The Thai people will always build back better, stronger, and not let something out of their control ruin their lives. Some areas will take longer to come back, because places on islands require outside resources. I only spent a month in Thailand (right before the pandemic), and it was easy to see how resourceful the locals are. • @theadventuresofbrockinthai4325

Hey Ryan, great video. It was nice of you to show the real devastating effects of a virus and makes you wonder what has happened to all those people that depended on the business 💔. I was just coming back from a trip up to northeastern Thailand and am glad to see some business starting to have a few more people in their shops. Don't know if they are buying more stuff but at least they're coming into the stores.
You comment about Thailand being your home, I have thought that way most of my 15 years of living here. It feels right and I'm comfortable. I will miss the 3 bedroom 3 bath 1500 square foot condo I live in but I just don't like living in a city of ten or so million people. I am so anxious to move back to Isan where a dog can lay in the middle of the road pretty much all day without worrying if some car is gonna come by and run over it.
Just another 3 or 4 months and I will be heading north. I had thought about going south and live by the ocean. Cha-Am is a nice area and you don't get a lot of tourist, just mainly Bangkok people that want to go to the beach. Very quiet during the week and starting on Friday night the party starts and goes until Sunday and people start heading home. A very nice place to be. It is my opinion plan B.
I do like the place up north but it is another person's dream and I'm not sure if I want to hook my wagon to his dream. It would be easier and I would have someone to make sure I get taken care of as I age even more than I am now. It is something I'm gonna have to do some soul searching on.

Great video, great place, and yes it is much better there than at the PTT station. Your you tube collegues Travel Beans (self converted VW transporter) made a few months ago a vlog on Stealth Camping in London and showed how to make blinds fitted to each window incl. insulation. Nikki Delventhal who has a channel as well and is living in a Prius also showed how to make blinds. Maybe you get some inspirations from them for your future plans. One of the best conversions I found is by Van Wifes who converted a Mercedes Sprinter.

Content creators are essential in keeping the New Normal. Well not those who are just being Real. But those who will be traveling to Thailand with the hopes of becoming a vlogger with instant following. These new vloggers keep the money rolling as they come to vlog about their Quarantine and glamourizing their Positive Covid results to gain more views. Thailand will be a place for vloggers and it will try to compete with Bali for Instagram Dominance.
