One thing I love about Waterloo is that it has stood the test of time and if it were to have been sent this year it would be just as much of a banger as in 1974, which is hard to say for many older Eurovision songs, winners included.
Luxembourg 1965 is so good while being over 55 years old. I would say that the best 2 vintage esc songs are “Poupée de cire, poupée de son” and “Waterloo” I still listen to both of them almost everyday
in reality they are pretty forced to do so, because before Eurovision there is Sanremo (the biggest Italian music festival and contest and the winner of Sanremo goes to eurovision) and if they make a song in English or in another language is really difficult to win or (I think) it will not be accepted at the contest and even if it gets accepted many people will not vote the song because it's not Italian music if it's not in italian

If the various countries brought songs in their own languages it would turn out to be languages that sound very well sung, and it would truly be an international festival.

It was fine in a few year like 2019 but it does ruin the competition a little since even though an Italian song is the worst song of the year it will still do good for no reason

Ik sad that Iceland lost the chance to win that year. Seeing as they still got 4th with an inferior song to the previous year in 2021 it’s almost guaranteed that they would have gotten over 4th and probably 1st

Yes, käärijä was very unlucky that day but we have to consider that this was new guy with a funky song against someone who had literally won before. Russia holds more power than finland and couldve easily made it. Plus i think that song was a little more judge-friendly due to it being in english.
Don't forget that Waterloo has over a million sold physical copies in addition to these streams, and also only from streams is still in the top ten of ESC. Shows how timeless their music is

Personally i really love another Italian song that is a little less known outside of Italy, it's Fai Rumore for Diodato who was supposed to represent Italy in 2020 but due to covid that didn't happen and sadly Italy was one od the xountries that didn't say: 'Oh he didn't get to go last year so we let him go this year' like some other countries did. Really underrated and i loved it when he finally got to perform it in Italy during a half-time show. The song just drags you in even if you don't uet understand the lyrics, but after you do find out what he's singing about you'll only like the song even more. This honestly makes me think Italy would've won in The Netherlands whether covid happened or not

Hardly, it’s much more complicated than that. Snap and Arcade both took off on TikTok, and in Snap’s case, it’s a song that was never going to perform well in Eurovision, but had the potential to blow up on radio (which it did, massively). Eurovision songs don’t necessarily get massive listenership, but in both Italy and Sweden, the songs that win San Remo and Melfest (and even the ones that don’t) are listened to and celebrated by the whole country and even their neighbours.
Everything sounds so modern and then there's ABBA from 1974. Fantastic.
