How to knit a braided edge

- In this DROPS video we show you how to work a braided edge. A braided edge is worked best in the round. We first cast on an even number of stitches with 2 different colors. And then we remove the loop from the beginning of the needle and place a marker before we knit the first round. We knit the colors alternately. The next two rounds are purled and remember to work the stitches in the same color as the round below. When you purl the first round put your working yarn to the right up and over the needle, and when you purl the second round put the working yarn down to the left.

Also auf diese Art und Weise kann frau sich das Stricken schon abgewöhnen - echt und ehrlich einfach unglaublich, so ein Video zu veröffentlichen!!!
It's so nice to have no talking. Then I can just watch and copy! TY!
Thanks for the video it’s really nice to have a video where it’s easy to follow and understand!!
That would be such a pretty edge on a sleeve! Thanks for the wonderful demonstration!

Oh MG i'v knitted this edge 72 years ago when i was10. my aunt shoed me.
🤔 Got it now
Thank you 😘
That would even look nice in all the same color...
I love your tutorial! Thank you. The one thing I would have liked to have seen is how it looks at the back join? I ask because in knitting in the round you have a spiral. So how do you do the braid without a JOG? Similar to jog-less stripes? How do we accomplish that. Please let me know. Thank you!
I had the same question.
Check out Roxanne Richardson's Latvian braid Technique Tuesday video on CZcams. She addresses how to lessen the jog. Hope this helps!
Hi it look very pretty can u teach how to knit messy beanie hair winter hat like this thanksss
This is very pretty. How would this circular piece be used?
Brenda Stolecki
Does this make a stretchy cast-on? Or would I need to do ribbing after the braid?
Jennie O'Connor, yes! This appears to be a 'long tail' cast on using 2 colors. My understanding, the 'long tail' is best for sweater, socks & gloves because it is the most stretchable knitting cast on.
Hi can u teach how to knit messy beanie bun hair winter hat like this it look very pretty I love it I know how to knit basic one can u please teach how to knit like this one please n thanks

Can you work a braided edge on single point needles?
You betcha!!! There is another U-Tube video that shows it being done straight on a circular needle but it looks just as good, the Latvain's used it traditionally in the yokes of their sweaters, But, you should never stiffle your imagination. 'Knitting Rules' are made to be bent and broken, how else can we get some very interesting fabrics, garments, ect?!?! Just Try It!!! So what if it doesn't work out, who did it hurt??? Knit Happy!!! ; >
can it be done on non circular needles?
Can you give the design in written form.)?
👌👍😘
Wie geht das für linkshänderinnen?
Great tutorial,But!!!, it would be nicer with some music or a bit of talking!!! ; >
Hi.
Our videos do not have sound.
We are a worldwide company and our videos are watched by people around the world, speaking different languages, many of whom do not understand English.
We have therefore written instructions to accompany this video, and there is no sound to disturb while watching. Enjoy!
I agree, I'm Swedish but speak English fluently and still find these videos in no need of speech. They are so well made and the extra written instructions to accompany the videos just makes it perfect. ANd music can be annoying in my opinion. ;)
some people tend to rattle on and give more information about how they aren't doing something rather than what to do.
I agree, I think audio with someone speaking the instructions would be extremely helpful. If people don't like audio, they can always hit the "mute" option, yeah? If you mute the video, there definitely won't be any sound to "disturb" anyone! And youtube has subtitles in different languages, so its possible to have options for more languages besides English... Its a great video but it would be much improved by adding instructions we can listen to
sound?

The lack of sound & verbal instructions is disturbing.
