I have lived in Yellowknife for more than 32 years. Winter does not last 8 months! It never has. It usually start snowing around Halloween. Winters last from November to April which makes it 6 months. Many people do not stay inside during the winter. They do all kinds of Winter activities! You just have to dress accordingly. Bugs are not that bad either in summer. This summer, I haven't used bug dope once.
I just found your channel and I really appreciate all the information you’re giving. I’m planning on moving to Yellowknife next year, your channel is taking some of the stress out of it
Very informative! I had wondered about car warm up time - it was fifteen minutes in North Dakota- about a minute here in Georgia- as far as paying deposits, it really depends- I’ve had to pay utility deposits in some places, not others
@@LifeinYellowknife only in very cold places in the US - frequently around zero degrees F ona North Dakota winter morning, whereas here in Georgia it rarely gets below the upper 20s, so no need for long engine warmups
When you say that you have to have private health insurance because of getting flown into Edmonton for hospital treatment, How often would you say that has happened for you? Can you give examples of procedures you would need to be flown to Edmonton for ?
Oh I'm sorry I missed this! No, flights to Edmonton for emergencies are covered with then NWT health card! As for little things like I need one of my wisdom teeth out I'll have to do that on my own dime so that sucks! Hope that helps!
Oh ok weird! It obviously varies depending on your driving record and what you want covered but we pay $1200 approx per year for car insurance. Private health I honestly don’t know because we didn’t know to get it! For more details on my bills there is a bills video linked in the description which shows things like internet, phone and big things like car insurance too. :-)
I had to go back and see what tip four was only to realize there were five tips lol!!! Omgosh epic fail on the title. Hahaha! And yes you def seem adventurous! You have to be or you’d be so boring in your not-so-daily-anymore-vlogs. Lol!!! Thanks for stopping by my channel! I feel honoured! 😂
The deposits sounds weird, I've been in Ontario for 2yrs and have never seen a deposit requirement minus a bell modem. I'm moving to Yellowknife at the end of June - do you get the deposit back for things like internet and electricity? What does it cover?
Yes, I should have included that. So I can't remember what was what but two of them were six months and one was one year of paying your bill every month on time of course. :-) End of June will be a great time to move! Congrats! Hopefully everyone will figure out where you're moving by then! lol!! NOT Yukon or Nunavut!
This might be a bit off topic but does Yellowknife have a draconian mask or vaccine policy? That's why I might move, just wondering......very good video here btw.
Ha, maybe not a good reason to move. Right now our schools are closed and have been for weeks and probably will be for longer. They are trying to do a "10 day something or other where everyone stays home but no one does thing" which will be extended 40 more times before they realize it will do nothing. In a few days it will be mandatory for government workers to be vaccinated and you can face jail time and/or giant fines for leaving your home after a positive covid result and not isolating (apparently meant for the homeless population not staying in the isolation centre so I hear). It's probably worse here now than other places in Canada- although I try really hard not to follow what's going on because it's annoying and upsetting.
Well thanks for being such a great supporter! I appreciate that! I can't help with immigration if that's what you're asking! So sorry! I actually should have included that in this video now that I'm thinking of it. I never remember to actually say that! Anyway, best of luck!
@@LifeinYellowknife thanks for the reply. yea i know of the three territories. the idea of my question was the name Northwest Territories would imply the area is composed of smaller sub-territories. if not, why isnt it just Northwest Territory?
6. You need bear protection. My grandmother had a friend who got mauled by a bear with her daughter on trampoline. Bear attacks are quite common. To add to the medivac, if you need cancer treatment you have to fly out to another hospital which is paid for but you do have to pay for your own hotel.
Thank you for these! I didn’t realize about the cancer treatments! And yes, bear protection is a great idea for sure! I’m so sorry to hear about your family friend! That’s so scary!

is the NWT made up of smaller territories? and what are they?
No, it has smaller communities/cities but the NWT is its own territory. Canada has three territories: Nunuvut, NT and Yukon.
