    If you’re a female you may not be do confortable with the toilet stops along the way, you do need to book in advance but it is almost instant to get the permits. It is the highest point in Spain and on a good day you will see all of the islands.
    The roads are fine, I drove the villa flor route in a right hand drive car without any problem,

    Hello, I am planning to go up Mt. Teide on my holiday next month. Got a few questions: do you need to pay anything for entering mt Teide? And do you also need a permit to use the cable car? I'm planning to drive up there for astrophotography and I think the summit with the cable car is the best place to see the stars. What do you think?

    • @joshbonthemove
      @joshbonthemove  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Hi Neo, you will need to pay for the cable car, not to drive up to the base of the peak. No permit needed for the cable car, just a ticket. Because it’s been a while since I went, I can’t remember all of the details now to be completely honest. Hope this helps as best as possible

  • @aoifeodonnell4929
    @aoifeodonnell4929 Před rokem +1

    Do you mean you need the permit from the start of the hike at Montana Blanca or the permit is only checked at the top near the cable car (just before going to the summit)? Is it worth it to hike just to this point or would one be disappointed at not being able to go to the summit?

    • @joshbonthemove
      @joshbonthemove  Před rokem

      Good question and the honest answer is I don't know 'cos we didn't do it. You could always give it a go but I don't know how far you'll get 👍🏻

    • @Volcano-Man
      @Volcano-Man Před rokem +4

      To answer the question about the permit. You can ascend on the telerferico providing you have paid the fare. However there is a policed barrier across the path to the actual summit and you have to present your Permissio and Passport or Identity document. If you do not have the permission they will not let you proceed!
      There is a way around it - legal, but very hard work. You can ascend on tbe teleferico in the afternoon, visit the Pico Viejo and Anaga miradors. Be aware the last run down is about 16:00 hours! Miss it and the next one is about 09:00 tomorrow - weather permitting! You are now able to ascend to the summit. Descent - two choices! You can stay overnight but need to be aware that even in summer it will be very cold as in below freezing! Or you walk out from the top station towards the Anaga mirador. Before you get to the mirador on your right is a track. That track leads down the flank of Teide. It is steep, and it zig-zags. Don'tcstray off the path as you will end up in serious trouble - as in being injured. It will take you about an hour to descend to the col with Montaña Blanca. At the col take the path to the left and walk around Montaña Blanca. then between Montaña Rajada on your left. You will eventually reach the road. If you left your car near the bottom teleferico station, you will need to turn right, walk along the road, go to your car, and sit in it all night long as the bottom barrier to the car park is locked - or you can walk along tbe road to the Parador, and you may be lucky to be able to get a room for the night!

    If you flew north or south along tbe Meridian around tbe world passing over both Poles, you will not touch the ground, as Teide is the highest point on tbe meridian. It is the third largest island in tbe Atlantic. Tenerife is the world's third largest volcanic island. Teide is active - last eruption from the summit - about 850AD, last eruption on the island - El Chinyero in 1909. Historic eruptions - 1492 - Boca Cangrejo, 1704, 1705 - Siete Fuentes, 1706 Montaña Negras which destroyed Garachico, El Tanque and other villages, 1798 - Chahora or Narices del Teide which threw blocks about 5 km away, and 1909 El Chinyero. In 2003/4 an estimated 1x10^11 cubic metres of hydrothermal fluids were injected in to the volcano on the North East flank. Travel companies will tell customers you can take the Teleferico (Cable Car), to tbe summit - you can't. They also tell people it is extinct - THEN in tbe next breath tell them its last eruption was in 1909 (true), and its overdue!
    Volcanoes do not erupt to timetables. Will it erupt again almost certainly but when? That's why I used to walk up from Montaña Blanca to the summit three times a week checking various items of monitoring equipment. There again what do I a mere vulcanogist know?
