Spring Walk in the English Countryside + Books for my Mum

- Today I'm sharing some of the celebrations I planned for my Mum, Donna, for a long Mother's Day weekend: a special brunch, a beautiful walk and some gorgeous vintage books that I think she'll love.

I love beautiful covers and have bought a book just for its cover.Mostly I read them as well.Loved the covers on the books you bought your mum.I can see why you like living in the country it is just stunning.I live in the country in Australia and it is not nearly as enchanting a walk around here can be a bit challenging in fact.You know hot .and dry with .lots of nasty insects and of course you have to watch you don't step on a snake ,which I have done.I just love the English countryside and would love to visit again one day as my husbands family live in Oxford, unfortunately this may not happen anytime soon.Best wishes to you both and thank you both.xx

The books are what drew me to your site. I'm a very avid reader and like you have large interest. Love your clothes. I wish I had relationship with my Mom when she was alive. But I still loved her dearly and miss her. Thank you again for the joy and comfort you both bring to so many of us that are blessed with coming upon your site.
Miranda, I am new to your channel but just wanted to pop up and say how much I am enjoying your videos. They are so relaxing to watch, and you seem so natural in front of the camera, it is like watching a video of a friend. You looked wonderful in front of the rhododendrons - your pink coat matched them perfectly!

Delightful videos. You're both so Quintessentially British. Reminds me of my darling English Granny who immigrated to Australia from Scotland in the early '50s. She'd spent time abroad in Malta growing up but had never lost her English accent. I've begun using my fine bone tea cups for my afternoon tea to watch your videos. Lovely.

So enjoyable to spend some time with you at the breakfast table and on your walk, Miranda. I feel very nostalgic when you go to Harlow Carr gardens, it reminds me of my childhood in Harrogate. What a fantastic haul of books - lucky Donna. I love the John Minton and J.S. Goodall illustrations. I'm enjoying daffodils and crocuses on my daily walks and feeling quite Spring-like. Spring is definitely in the air, Cherry blossom is just coming out in Doncaster (South Yorkshire) where I live and Wakefield (West Yorkshire) where I work. Beautiful selection of books. What a thoughtful present! No signs of spring here as we head into autumn but we have just planted some daffodil bulbs for later in the year. The gardens at Harlow Carr looked lovely and I particularly loved the woven sculpture of the two hares fighting.

Thank you for sharing the gorgeous spring colors on your garden walk. Here, some hearty, short purple blooms (my botanical lexicon is sorely limited) and a louder volume of birdsong are insisting the spring is on its way, despite the freezing temperatures and bluster. It was such a pleasure, as always, to spend a little time with both of you. I love your floral dress!

I know this was 2 months ago filmed but such joy y'all have given me this day. I'm elderly and in an apt. I've always as adult loved in country with birds and flowers . I miss that life so much so the walks with you two brings back my memories. I feel as if I am walking with you.Thank you.

What a beautiful Mother's Day breakfast table - the flowers looked so cheerful! There's not much sign of spring here in NH, but I'm hoping that my rhododendrons bloom sometime soon. We also have a gorgeous forsythia bush in the front of the house that is such a lovely bright yellow from the middle to end of April. Can't wait for that! The books you chose for your mom are so sweet! I just re-bought Old Herbaceous, so I hope it comes soon for spring reading. Another very lovely visit with you and your beautiful mum! The gardens were so gorgeous and just puts one in the mood for spring as do all your flowers at the table. Since your video on comic novels I finally gave Wodehouse a try and have now listened to 6 Jeeves and Wooster books and 2 Blandings Castle books and started Wooster tv series! Yes you got me hooked on audiobooks while doing mundane chores, driving, etc.
In the way of reading (not listening) my mom and I recently enjoyed The Hills is Lonely and I'm loving The Diary of a Provincial Lady currently and can't wait for my mom to read it! I am looking for a nice copy of Old Herbaceous as I know I'd enjoy it and hope your mum will! The vintage hardbacks you gave her are gorgeous! Happy Spring, Miranda and Donna! 😀📚❤️🌷🌷

What gorgeous books! I love John Goodall’s illustrations. Do you know his little Edwardian picture books? He did a series of them and the Edwardian Christmas one is burned into my soul because I used to leaf through it every Christmas as a child (and still do!!)! I was lucky enough to buy an original watercolour of Goodall’s of a French chateau and its garden and it gives me so much pleasure. His pictures of people are absolutely wonderful though. Wonderful vlog, thank you, your relationship is just lovely to share in and your videos always are so calming and inspiring!

What a beautiful video and such gorgeous flowers! The daffodils are such a simple but cheerful flower. Your breakfast table was simply stunning also. We're in our autumn season here in Australia and the weather should be cooling down but the temperature is still in the high 30's.

Lovely vlog as usual Miranda! 😊 The Rhododendrons looked lovely. I did the Annapurna trek in Nepal during the Rhododendron season a few years ago and it was truly spectacular to see so many in full bloom (mountains were pretty good as well! 😂). Alas, mine is just a soft cover but yours looks just wonderful. Since you and your mum love mysteries so much, I wonder if either of you have read any Louise Penny? I know you lived in Canada for a while and her books are set in Quebec. They are simply wonderful. No blood and gore but all of them are outstanding reads. Cheers from Canada.

do you put bookplates in your books? i just got a book on the history of bookplate design - it includes examples from people like Enstein! i was curious to see what design you have or to see a collection of all the designs you have used!
