      hello, sometimes pests don't come with plants but they can sneak into your home when you are buying some soils also. In fact I had almost zero pests (maybe one or two mealy bugs in my rhipsalis baccifera) but last month I bought some orchid bark on Amazon for my anthurium, and bam ! since then I've been seeing some little black flies around ..... I try to treat the problem with castille soap and hydrogen peroxide, and also with yellow traps, but I assume that some pests are inevitable, they are part of the living things and I don't want to use harsh chemicals ..... I hope that those thrips will stay away from my plants !

    Separating roots, and even better cutting from top to bottom on pot bound roots is very important on woody and long lived plants. Without doing so the roots can end up girdling each other and killing the plant. Always important to do on trees, but likely monstera or similar would not end up living long enough for it the be a big issue.

    I’m so happy I found your channel, you’re amazing, I’ve already learned so many things!!! I have a quick question about a monstera my mom has, it’s been through a lot and I was hoping you could help🤞it had rot so we tried to repot it but the soil was a little damp so I think it ended up a bit too packed, it looked terrible, then she kinda shoveled more dirt on it so a good portion of the stems buried… do you think I should try to repot it again or just try to get cuttings from it to start over?

    • @KillThisPlant
      @KillThisPlant  Před rokem +1

      I think that depends on a lot of factors.
      Is the plant still rotting, how do we know? Was there root loss? Was there so much root loss it should have been put in a smaller pot? How was the plant treated to prevent the rot from spreading? What's the soil like? I think if all these issues weren't addressed than your plant might still be in a precarious state. It's a judgement call, I cant really make it for you without the whole story.

    • @KillThisPlant
      @KillThisPlant  Před 10 měsíci

      Thanks for the suggestion. I will try. It's difficult to do without getting recording equipment in the shot.
      There is no such thing as a low light plant. Only plants (like a zz plant) that will die slower than most plants in low light. ZZ plants can take a good amount of bright light.

    • @KillThisPlant
      @KillThisPlant  Před rokem +2

      There is a lot of noise on tiktok, and its extremely difficult to communicate all the important information you'd need to answer that question.
      Now when you say hydrophobic plants - I'm not sure what you mean exactly.
      Most aroids (philodendron, pothos, syngoniums, monstera) grow well in water, it is a good idea to occasionally add nutrients to the water. There are aquarium plants that are meant to grow under water, but that's a whole other thing. I think your best answer on an individual basis is to google, "can (plant) grow in water?" and see what comes up.

    Bro I have a question
    I have monstera that I repotted I purchased if from lowes they cut some of the leaves off that we're damaged BUT the plant is still creating jew leaves
    But the cut stems are starting to turn yellow and die
    I just wanted to make sure this wouldn't effect my seems that are still healthy?

    • @KillThisPlant
      @KillThisPlant  Před rokem

      Important to know the structure of the plant first:
      Leaf attached to petiole, petiole attached to the stem.
      If the store had cut the leaf off, and just left a petiole, eventually the petiole will turn yellow and fall off. The stem will still be healthy. The plant will continue to grow new leaves like your is.

    Do u recommend to cut the long long Arial roots of the monstera deliciosa? (it's in smart pot with pon)

    • @KillThisPlant
      @KillThisPlant  Před rokem

      If it's in the way, sure. Ideally cut it to a length where it can be guided back into the pot.

      Treat with an antifungal, best to cut those leaves (if possible) wear gloves, wash hands, isolate plant.

    You have to take care of pests over a month. Their life cycle is 2weeks. So after 2weeks the new baby pests will pop up...😅

    If I propagate my monstera, will it start back over and have to mature again or will it continue the process of aging before cutting?

    • @KillThisPlant
      @KillThisPlant  Před rokem +4

      If you take a cutting from the top, It will continue to mature. Cutting from anywhere else it will restart.

      Someone correct me if im wrong, a top cutting will continue. A mid/low cutting will start again with juvenile leaves

    How do you prep a piece of wood before putting in with a plant?

    • @KillThisPlant
      @KillThisPlant  Před 5 měsíci +2

      If it's found wood you can soak with water and hydrogen peroxide.
      Search in the aquarium channels on CZcams, they have good tutorials.

    What's odd for me is that the stem on my monstera grew down for some reason. I repotted a few weeks ago and found six inches of fully green stem below the soil which wasn't there before. Do you know why this is? Is it abnormal?
