    • @Lokd0wn
      @Lokd0wn Před 2 lety +10

      It's not meant to be mind-bendingly hard to solve, although in some of these sequels accidentally bumping it makes it open. It's more the desire to open it that's important. Generally the Eremite (the hobo box guardian) selects appropriate candidates, but I guess by Revelations things were getting desperate if all they could tempt were two douchebros.

    Doug Bradley declined to be in this purely because of money. They only wanted to pay him $5000. He'd make more signing photos at a convention than that.
    Gary J, Tunnicliffe, the series' long-time make-up artist and unfortunate screenwriter of this, tells the whole sorry story. They had almost no money and massacred his script on set. He wasn't there for that one, since he was doing effects for SCREAM 4.

  • @vampman87
    @vampman87 Před 2 lety +45

    "Hellraiser: Judgement" is only slightly better. They cast a better actor as Pinhead but he really doesn't do anything until the very end, with the Auditor as the main monster antagonist and a really unnecessarily lengthy process on how he chooses his victims. The main plot is a ripoff of the main arc in "American Horror Story: Hotel," with a detective checking out a bunch of religious killings, and the same plot twist as "Hotel" as to who the killer is. What I will give "Judgement" credit for is that it attempts to broaden the Hellraiser mythology just like "The Scarlet Gospels" did by bringing in angels as the natural enemies of the Cenobites, though they're just as corrupt, if not more so, than Pinhead and the Auditor.
    From what I heard, the original script to "Judgement" had nothing to do with "Hellraiser" at all, just being a struggle between the Auditor and an angel over what to do with the soul of a corrupt cop, but the director was forced to add Pinhead in as the Auditor's co-worker in order to get more funding for the movie. As a result the movie isn't good and looks way cheaper than even "Revelations," though the acting is marginally better.

      @MaximumMadnessStixon Před 2 lety +6

      Yeah, they definitely got a MUCH better Pinhead in _Judgment._ He was actually pretty damn solid. Not as good as Doug Bradley... but still quite decent.
      I'd have liked to see _Judgment_ with a bigger budget and as originally envisioned. (Aka without Pinhead forced in)... I feel like it could have been an alright little horror freakshow. But as is... it's just another forgettable _Hellraiser_ sequel.

    Pinhead has a mixed expression on his face. On the one hand that expression on his mouth seems to say he has had one reggie bar to many and his stommach is acting up. His thousand mile stare seems to say that he has binge watched firing line with William F. Buckley. But what he doesnt express is dread and horror which is kind of a big deal in a feature that are supposed to be scary.

    As bad as this one was it was still a breath of fresh air compared to the previous movies which were rewritten to include Hellraiser elements. And watching the other kid forced to stick pins in his head was a nice touch, to see what happens when the cenobites take you.

      Phantasm is seriously overdue to get reviewed here. I will always have a soft spot for that film and (some of) its sequels

      I would be happy with either: Phantasm, due to it being so iconic and having seen all the movies multiple times.
      And Pumpkinhead because I've never actually seen them; would be interesting to finally find out about them.
      Here's hoping!

    I'm finally watching all the HR sequels (never bothered before after 1+2). Revelations is just infamous online and there seems to be a circlejerk about how its "the worst movie ever made". I didn't get that watching it. I actually enjoyed it despite the obvious bad acting and lack of Doug Bradley. The story feels true to the essence of Hellraiser which can't be said about movies: 5,6,7,8 all of which don't really work as Hellraiser films (and they weren't even originally supposed to be though 5 manages okay). I really liked #5 Inferno because I liked how it took the franchise to a hallucinatory Jacob's Ladder/Lynchian style hellscape, but then 6, 7, 8 tired the same tropes but much worse and the hallucinations/twists got tiresome. 9, Revelations, at least tries to return the series to its roots. No more hallucinations and trickery, you opened the box and the suffering (and the pleasures too) is real and beyond the limits. Unfortunately, it was obviously rushed and low budget. If you can see past its many faults, at least it's a Hellraiser movie, albeit a B one. IMO its better than #6 Hellseeker, #7 Deader, and especially #8 Hellworld. So far I haven't actively disliked any of them, though Hellworld really tested me with that BS "twist" ending.

    Pretty much every Hellraiser movie written as a unrelated script with Cenobites just kind of shoved in there are terrible, but somehow a movie written as a Hellraiser rush job is so much worse. If they really wanted to do an obligation to keep the rights then just remake the original, sure it might still be pure shit but you'd atleast save time/money on writing an actual plot.
