fun fact; in Australia when this came out the government run youth radio station (triple j) was the only radio station in the world playing this song (reportedly) which didn't sit well with the government so they banned the song from being played. In protest the radio station played Express Yourself by NWA for 24 hours strait.
I remember that day well. I was living in public housing, my house had no power that day so I hung outside with the other kids listening to it on their boomboxes all day.
Very cool fun fact
Nice fact bro thanks
Thats cool
sick
Ice Cube always sounds pissed when he raps. RIP Eazy E.
Had lots of love for his music ❤❤❤
May he keep rapping in heaven
Thats just Ice cube's attitude..
He deserves to pissed look at how the black Americans are treated still to this day. One day my people are gonna rise up and give the whites their well deserved karma. Inshallah GOD WILLING
@@gabrielledormuth4634not how it works my boy
Not just Compton....This was happing all over America in poor black communities...Compton NWA...was the first to put it out in the rawest form.
Still appropriate right now.
@@redsmoker37 Ain't that some bullsh1t. Man.
I had to buy the album a bunch of times cause it was either getting wore out or jacked since it was such a huge success and all my friends were into it and at the parties I threw it got played a lot
First heard N.W.A. back in the day when electro, hip hop and breakdancing exploded in the UK.
N.W.A. for me were instrumental in paving the way for other groups to step forward and express there feelings through music about real life issues. Even though I play guitar I still listen to N.W.A, Ghetto boys and so very talented guys.
@@lifelongred7056 ya when u have dr dre and dj yella u get some real thang
It's not 'Mik Ren'...it's M.C. Ren (pronounced "Em-cee Ren"). Btw, 'Yella' is the DJ. DJ Yella.
McRen is almost as dope and McRib.
Thank you for explaining this to him
😂🤣 I didn't catch that🤣😂
@@sean-ew2qv But not quite as dope McFlurry: that dude is cold!
They sell the McRen at Mickey Dees👌🏽
I lived in LA in the 80s and felt every word in this song
Oakland.... same
@@janes.1559 not the same La was were it was made u in oakland it affects us La dudes more
@gasturret7600 you don't think there was police brutality in Oakland? Must be a joke.
@@gasturret7600 Imagine arguing about who lives in a worse city…🤦🏻♂️😂
This got the group in trouble with not only the police but also the FBI
Actually, there wasn't any "trouble". There was a letter written which exposed the fib as the authoritarian pieces of feces that they are. Congress told the fib to stay in it's lane and protect the constitution or gtfo.
This Album was also the Very First to carry the PAL (Parental Advisory Label) . Interesting Side note.... Dee Snider (from Twisted Sister) testified in the Congressional hearings and absolutely made fools of them! It's too bad that Ice Cube didn't get to testify too... It's actually worth watching on CZcams too!....
(edit)
They tried to arrest NWA at concert for playing this song.
I got busted by the cops for being in the park after curfew and they actually took me to the station to call my parents. They then noticed that this album was in my boom box so they asked me "play the fuck the police song", they weren't terribly pleased. After that a few of them used to stop and jerk me around whenever they saw me walking down the street.
@@skepticalfan no they didn't 😂 that's only in the movie
MC Ren's verses on this album are raw as hell. I'm surprised he didn't find more success after NWA like Dre, Cube and Eazy did.
There's more to being a good rapper than just bars.
yea kinda sad ngl
Those other members of NWA did extra things that Ren didn't do.
Ice Cube did a ton of movies.
Dr. Dre stumbled on Snoop Dogg,Eminem and produced them. That kept Dre in the spotlight.
Ren mainly seemed to have stuck with music. It would have been interesting to have seen Ren do some songs with some east coast rappers like a Nas and some others during the 90s.
to be fair ice cube wrote 90% of the lyrics for NWA
@@CrowdPleeza yea
Public enemy fight the power if you've not heard it before is worth checking out too
I can't do nothing for ya man.
@@richardturner4848 I just know I'm gonna have that line stuck in my head repeating on loop for the nxt few days. Hope my partner doesn't ask much of me cos that's what he'll be hearing 😂

Ha ha ha, great song. You want 6 dollars for what? 😁😁
Also 'Shut Em Down'
They were banned from singing this one at a lot of venues but, they did it anyway !!!
I'm a white guy and I will tell you this album is one of my favorites. Everybody should tell their story. 💥✌
Yep
Same here, I’m a Mexican guy here in LA. This album is classic 🔥
I'm brazilian, but i'm black and i recently discovered NWA and it has a very similar vibe to Racionais
White English guy here and this is an all time classic. Was 13 when this came out and it changed my music taste forever.
It ain’t just stories bruh this shit is reality for most black property to this day ….. shot sucks man
"Colors" Ice-T
I've requested this before but going to again just in case.😉😁
Love this one! 80,s rap
Great request Colors is a great song and the video from the film of the same name is great.
@@jsssmith66 1st time I heard the song was from the movie. Loved it!
Heck yea... colors!!!
Great song
This is real rap. Timeless...
Everybody talkin bout how he said “mik ren” instead of “emcee” but i think these are the types of mistakes that make reaction videos awesome. It just shows it’s his real reaction and none of that pretending shit
I'VE BEEN A FAN OF N.W.A FOR TWO YEARS ALTHOUGH I'M FROM FINLAND AND I'M WHITE, BUT I RESPECT THOSE GUYS, WITH THEIR HELP I ALSO STARTED TO RAP
Kiitos kun sä kiinnostettu N.W.A sama kun multa.
(Asun Suomessa, kyl mä voin puhu suomea) 😁
Whenever you see “MC” in our (as in old school) rapper’s names, it stands for “emcee” (not mick). Emceeing is REAL!
Hip Hop includes a lot of MCs but all rappers aren’t “emcees”. That’s why rap is so fukked up and watered down nowadays!
MC is master of ceremonies
Yes I know. I was trying to help Jay with the pronunciation.
@@bob5074 generally yes but didn't it evolve to also mean mic controller?
@@jadecawdellsmith4009 nope...
@@bob5074 I'm sure I've heard it in old school songs. Beastie Boys or Run DMC.
I remember listening to this when it came out in 88 when I was 12 on my Sony Walkman cassette. This was shocking back then. Still love it today.
You me and every 12year old in America was sharing this tape in 88
NWA legends! I was 16 when I discovered NWA English white girl blasting my moms house down in 1989 😆
How on earth has this guy not heard this before? Even being young you would have to live under a rock for 25 years
"McRen" lmao. It's M.C. (emcee) which stands for Master of Ceremonies and is another term for a rapper.
NWA was speaking for all black people in the black poor communities. NATION WIDE. Police Harassment was harsh during the 80's and 90's.
Yo-Yo's You Can't Play With My Yo-Yo (which has Ice Cube in it too) is a great song to check out! :)
I rock ruff and stuff with my afro puffs
Heeeyyy go on with your bad self
@@gness4782 The Lady Of Rage! Great old school hip hop too, had forgotten about it
The police were pissed about this song. They were demanding they do not play this song in return for security at the concerts. It was the original protest
Legends 🙌 🙌 🙌
I remember when this song came out! We were like, "They said, what?" And we were so proud 'cause ir was raw and it was THE TRUTH!!! This song is as relevant today as it was then. They told the world what was going down but few listened. Now with all these cell phone videos they've been vindicated!
All of them were so great on this one. I also love the "and we'll go at it punk and imma f*ck you up" line, cracks me up every time.
I loled when you said "Ice Cube was fed up". Yes. Yes he was lol
I used to sneak my friend's older brother's N.W.A and ICE- T cassettes in my early teens. This was unlike anything anyone had ever heard and it opened a lot of our eyes to things.💯
Same same, got it from my uncle in the 90s 🤘
Always been my favorite part 2nd only to Ice Cubes entire verse
you should check out Public Enemy "Fight The Power" for a similar message
I believe Jay already reacted to that
Man, you need to listen to "No Vaseline" by Ice Cube. This gonna be very entertaining :D
Seriously... he needs to learn about their history first and then listen to No Vaseline... lol
Best diss record of all time
@@ghidrah76 That was exactly what my next comment was going to be mate 👍
@@shawnminnich7273 Superb tune but I'd say only second best diss song after Tupacs Hit Em Up
I was 10, my brothers were teenagers and I'd heard them play this song, they found it funny when i sang the chorus! I had no concept of its meaning just knew it was catchy!
This album is Almost 30 years old and it still sounds great and relevant👍
Same as Dr Dre - the chronic and Ice Cube - the predator✌.
Can't believe no one has suggested DJ Quik: Tonight
Loved this reaction! Keep doing your thing baby! Much love 🤟🏽
One of the greatest songs of all time it’s 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
My bro, M.C. Ren Not ‘Mick Ren’
Because
MC Means and comes from: “Master of Ceremonies”
👍
MC can also stand for Mic Controller. See Cookie Crew-Rock Da House "the crew in the house we're the mic-controllers, it's like that & nobody told us" or Run DMC-Hollis Crew. "It's me DMC in the place to be,& I still got that same old harmony, I'm the devastating mic-controller, the word wizard & the chief rock roller..."
It remembers Body Counts - Ice-T... heavier sound but same idea!
"There goes the Neighborhood" is a great track to get a reaction!
No lives matter is another one he should check out.
This always bring me back to living in Long Beach days, running from shore patrol in Navy Housing. We used to always give them trouble lol. Thanks to NWA!
You got to check out one of the greatest Rappers Eric B and Rakim anything you do of there's is great
RIP Rodney King.
N. W. A. (Niggas With Attitude) is my mom's favorite group. She had a cassette tape for years. I Grew up on NWA, Eminem, & Jay-Z
'Public Enemy - Fight The Power' is a great anthem, you should also check out 'Eric B and Rakim' from the time, 'Follow The Leader', 'Let The Rhythm Hit Em', 'Know The Ledge' etc.
I don't really feel like I can truly comment on this, just remember getting a lot of grief at a Private English school for listening to these guys. I had a pretty open mind and listened to everything from US rap, Acid House, Dance music, Indie (The Cure/The Smiths) and Irish Rebel. Just appreciated good music. I still have my original NWA album 'straight outta Compton' tape. Got rid of a bunch of albums but this was one of dozen or so I kept.
This is my era, I fu**ing love it 👌💪. EZ is my favourite, his voice was unique
Time to react to the greatest rap group of all time Public Enemy, check out Cant trust it, Shut em down or Black Steel in the hour of chaos
I got profiled a couple years . I was pissed. My son was in car with his daughter and he is in the national guard.. He was pissed too . I was profiled for my vechicle ( suv riding on 22 inch rims. ) The cop had an itchy trigger finger on his pistol the whole time. It was night. He asked do you know why I pulled you over. I was pissed off and straight up told him I was not speeding or breaking any laws so no. He said he pulled me over for the light bulb over my license plate being out, and kept trying to sniff in my car. Smh
It was as it is and that's the problem. Same as it ever was, if you understand that the first police forces were formed to 'handle' newly freeded slaves.
KRS One has a good one on this topic:Sound Of The Police.
@Marlboro Man you shouldn't diminish people's expression of their personal experience.
You can still call out the effect with out telling people their stupid.
For instance, your nonsense characterization most likely turned many from reading to the end of your comment; the part that contain your point.
God you live in the American bubble 😂🤣🤙
This is still so damn good after all these years. This was the kind of rap we grew up listening to in the 90's. Glad you dig it.
Stunning album, you also have an E.L.O. poster on the wall. Extra respect.
It’s totally awesome the young kids can groove to the classics. Props young man😎
"Easy does it " is a must!!
Absolutely incredible song man... incredible.
Oh it wasn’t just Compton and LA...the whole world felt that song! lol
I remember cops would beat people up that they stopped for playing it.
They smashed my homeboy’s pullout car radio over his head the day we got pulled over for playing it loud in his car.
Cops in America are just something else
When NWA came to Pontiac they shut the concert down when they started to perform it.
Of course they got sued afterwards, but still.
@@gness4782 I’m sure somebody probably got arrested too. lol
Cops took that song seriously. lol
And you guys didn’t sue him?
@@burnttoaster6313 lawyers cost money, and since no body cams, their word against cops. Does that sound like a case to you?
I relate to this song so fucking much. I actually have a NWA shirt, one of my favorites that I own. 💗💗💖
Old skool beats 1988 !! 👌
I hadn't heard this for years and I think it still packs a powerful punch. I'm guessing not a lot has changed in some places.
Maybe this is the disconnect. I am a whiteboy from Canada that first bought this album somewhere around 1992. I loved it and it helped me realize that my friends might be treated differently than I am. It’s like the states is going backwards. We understood that we are all the same and that it’s just a small few that destroy that thought on both sides. We need to get back to focusing on what matters. The government.
Hundren miles and runnin great nwa
Mc ren is one of the best i still have his cassettes tapes till this day
Ice Cube's Predate album was pretty cool. First time I heard Gangstas Fairytale Part 2 I was open mouthed, it was funny, inventive and the music was cool.
I just found you and i really enjoyed watching you listen to this!
Ahhhh back in the good ol days......when rap hit harder
Played this whenever I was pulling up to the gate on base as loud as possible.
I love this! I grew up on NWA!!!
I remember Ice Cube in that movie called Boyz in the hood and barbershop. He did a lot more then rap but rap is his start. I remember hearing NWA thinking wow wth is this? Then his stuff just grows on you. Great reaction Jayvee
Makes me think of - KRS1 "Sound of da Police". Down here (UK) the sound systems play it every carnival weekend and crowds of thousands sing along. It drives the police crazy cause they can't retaliate.
Ice Cube was singing his life story.... I love this version...
Yes it is . That is how it was on that side of town . I couldn't believe police officers would do that but , I found out that is how it was in the early years on the streets of Compton, California . 😮
You should react to "Black Cop" and "Sound of Da Police" by KRS-One and "911 Is a Joke" by Public Enemy.
Express yourself is a classic
You should check out another rapper associated with NWA, The D.O.C., Portrait of a Masterpiece.
The D.O.C stands right next to Rakim to me.
They are the greatest. When they made this song, The Los Angeles police were notorious as a paramilitary, brutal force. This song is brutal, but it actually makes a very important point: that the LA police targeted black people and absolutely brutalized them.
Got to admit no Vaseline was savage, couldn't stop laughing when i heard it. When nwa started being played in the uk everyone was in to it.
A hard hitting album to this day, that kicked everything off... Also, tidbit of info you might not know, Ice Cube wrote 9 of the 12 songs of Straight Outta Compton.. Hence him leaving Nwa and going Solo, making Amerikkkas Most Wanted.. Starting a war between them, with Nwa dissing Cube on their next albums 100 miles and running, and efil4zaggin (Niggaz4life backwards)... But as they show on the movie Straight outta Compton they show Dre Eazy Ren Yella all listening to Cubes response to them and they acknowledge they agree they had all their asses handed to them after mashing them all one by one, and all at once. 💿 🎶
Pioneers! They sold tons of cds , with no airplay , just word of mouth
Yuppppp....😎🎙️👍🏽
Lol I remember when the album first came out. Some kid got a cassette and it was passed around the playground like contraband haha fun times
Everyone on CZcams ' meh, cool story' 😎
i live in the area where ice cube was from hundreds area .. and its still the same today ...
Reaaaaly love this song btw.. am a scot.. glasgow born..and this banger was an anthem for us growing up..fuck the police... as powerful now as it was then.. n not just stateside!
Listen to Public Enemy, Fight The Power.
I enjoyed that reaction my man..Classic. Yes it was terrible in Compton and across the country. The three strikes law was in full effect in Cali too.. Check out Ice Cube "3 Strikes you in"...hidden gem Classic.
White old woman from Cali here. Love this.
Check out the movie...
Boyz n the hood
With ice cube and shows how it was back in the day
It's become a "Classic" now...RIP to John Singleton who wrote & directed that movie as a young man.
No vasaline.... is a must listen too
This was the first rap song that made me interested in rap. I'm a white guy that was a teenager in the 80's. I thought rap was a medium for people that couldn't sing. When I heard this one, I started paying attention.
Classic i love this
You should watch ‘the defiant ones’ on Netflix. Gives a good background about NWA
Some things don't change!!!
I agree
check out what "JUDGE DRE PRESIDING," said at the beginning brah!!
i was living in pleasantville NY back in the day. i can report there was no gun violence or racist cops in pleasantville at the time.
Who doesn’t love some gansta rap?! We need NWA back! What’s so funny is I heard Ice Cube went to college lol but he grew up in Compton, and Compton back in the late 80s, early 90s was something else. I love Compton though. Regardless of your education level or whatever you’d still be harassed. That’s why I love Ice Cube in that movie, Higher Learning. “Show me your ID.” LOL So true.
NWA was not afraid to say what they feel.
Yella is the DJ doing the scratching!
MC Ren? As in Mc Donalds?! Lol 😂 I screamed 😂🤣 It’s M.C. Ren. Awwww I love your videos! 😂😂😆😆
Check out Ice Cube's - What Can I Do and also check out The D.O.C. - The Formula.
D.O.C. is the greatest rapper of all time. I will fight anyone that disagrees, right now. "Whirlwind Pyramid" muthafuckas.
Right after Ice Cube left NWA, NWA released an EP called "100 miles and running"..that titel track is by the way also a hell of a track..But my point is, an other track on this EP is called "Sa Prize" which is part 2 of "Fuck the police".
And by the way "Yella" was the DJ he didn´t rap he was cutting and scratching.
And many here are suggesting Public Enemy "Fight the power" which is also a great song but I would go with "Black steel in the hour of chaos" which is about a prison riot + escape ..it´s from the same album "It takes a nation of millions to hold us back" and to be fair every single track of that album is a banger and was therefore officially selected as "Best Hip Hop record of the year" in 1989 and is for Hip Hop history a landmark/milestone..
Yella is the DJ, the one doing the scratchin and playing the beat
You should hear part 2
A metal group named Dope covered this might want to give that a listen.
Rumor has it McRen is originally from Ireland.
Being from Australia our cop situation is a lot different to yours in America but none are immune from the systemic racism.
Yeah our cops aren't so trigger happy cos they don't expect us to have guns. But the Justice system isnt fair to our indigenous people & the police seem to target them more often & more violently.
@@jadecawdellsmith4009 agree fully. I mean no one's grandma should be left in a paddy wagon up north in 45° heat while the cops go for food & generally don't hurry to get them out so they die there. No one's pre teen kid should be chased down & knocked off their bike by cops either. There's just so many examples it's sickening.
I'm glad most people don't carry firearms though people seem to like to use their cars as weapons. But our cops are still getting militarised like look at the average copper with their vest & chest camera & what - 4 items to incapacitate someone.
There is a part 2.
Love this track. Something to say, and (quite rightly) angry.
Ren is EMCEE Ren not “Mic” Ren. And Yella is DJ Yella. Love the shirt, Jay!
