If you could take a brand new player, never picked up a club in their life. I wouldn't let them hit a single shot longer than 20 yards for 6 months. Starting at the 3 foot mark and working out. No matter how bad they begin the long game journey they can make a score at the end of the hole. Even after a lifetime of golf my practice still has 3 footers and 20 yard chips.
I'd give them a pitching wedge and a putter then add a 7 iron after a month. Then I'd give them a sand wedge after another month. Then I would give them a 7 wood.

That might involve corporate sponsorship but if you do that I would hope you'd be able to maintain your independence (oftentimes deals have strings attached, as I'm sure you're aware). For those paying attention there was much wisdom shared here. I will be re-watching this one as I'm still very inconsistent with my striking. It's true though, hitting irons off a mat is a completely false economy and dosent really equip you at all for playing off fairway. I'd be a 10 handicapper if I brought my range bay game to the course (which I never do)
