i went golfing for the first time yesterday, no practice, no driving range, just rented a set of clubs and drove to the first tee... i ended up shooting a 104 over 18 holes on a par 67, lost three balls... but, i did get one birdie on a par 4... and almost every shot with the sand wedge was perfect and straight and landed right where i was aiming... i couldnt hardly believe it if i werent seeing it happen.... almost every shot with every other stick went everywhere except where i wanted... i did play your high handicap strategy of just taking light easy shots to the safest most playable places... gonna go back this morning and practice at the range for a bit before my tee time. thanks for the advice/instruction...

I have built a set based on the following considerations: 1. remove ego 2. 8-9-pw are blades 4-5-6-7 Player Cavity back 5W 3W Driver all super forgiving Taylor made M4's weighted / adjusted on shafts to be set for fairway finding not distance. Taking PGA pro lessons twice a month and practicing at the range 4x per week working on a different skillset each visit. perfecting strait shot shape, i have a natural fade shot down pat, working on a draw bias swing path but more lessons and work is needed. SO far this is working wonders

Does "par" for a golf course ever changed as golf club technology improves or as the average pro golfer's skill change over time?

Using clubs from the early 2000s rn & I can hit 4 iron 210yds. Looking forward to a new 3/4 iron so I can push 220-230 with my irons.

I normally play by myself walking nearby course nine holes only. Someone joined last week and he took so long to hit the ball. I was thinking like no wonder I play alone, and he still felt rushed after the game. I was thinking like, let alone in foursome.

I’ve been golfing under a year and hit a 263 drive. Very confused that you say not many people hit over 250. I’m an absolute amateur so if I’ve done it that makes me wonder how many people who have played a few years consistently do it. Maybe you’re hanging out with old dudes or something?

Started golfing 3 months ago and go about once a week. I use my dad’s old Wilson staff blades that he bought used in the early 2000s. I absolutely love learning the game with them, even when I have a rough game I still feel like I get better every time which is very satisfying. I fully subscribe to the idea that if you can hit a blade you can hit anything. Plus who has the money to buy a fresh new set of irons. Certainly not me 😂

I got some clubs handed down to me and have a 64 degree haha. I played with it for years when I didn’t take golf seriously and it’s only now that I am actively trying to improve that I realise absolutely nobody bar Phil Mickelson uses one. I guess I am the 2nd best 64 degree wedge user in the world by default though, which is pretty cool ;)

I’ve been golfing for 4 weeks. Former baseball player with swing speed around 120mph on my driver. I fairly frequently hit drives that carry aver 285 and around 305-315 total, but for each drive that I crush I have 5 that I top for 80 yards, pop straight up, or slice 150 yards. Crazy impressive to average close to 300 yards.

PW 47, 52, 58 for me. I'm often tempted to split the 58 to a 56/60, but I like having the 3 iron and choice between 5 wood and 7 wood below the mini driver, and splitting that wedge would probably take that 3 iron out of the bag for me.

I just moved to Colorado. 300 is easy here. Pop ups go 275.

Grew up on links playing in wind back in the 90s. Have a shorter flatter swing for control still play off 2 with a 20 year hiatus but golf has changed so much really is all about distance now I have mixed feelings about it 🧐

I have a wilson 50 and i swear it's the heaviest club in my bag. It's also my favorite! Consistent. I don't know why. .. damn i hate golf! 😢

You need GPS watch to find out how long you are. The signage on driving range is probably the most inaccurate way of measuring your distance. Most of people I play with average 220. We sometime bomb it to 250-260 max.

Your shaft is too stiff.

I just moved to Colorado. I keep hitting those pop up pulls. The ones that only go 220 to 230 and end up in the left rough. Here they go 300 and are still in the fairway. 😁🤣 It is fun.

Ive driven a green that was 320 but the other 90 percent of the time i lose the ball. Another problem with hitting that far is finding it for your second shot settled.

So many of these are things I learned and understood when I started my golfing adventure. Pro dispersion/grouping is a perfect example. The highlights and TV analysts make it seem like they are better than they are, in reality, the most memorable shots are misses that worked out because they know what their dispersion is for each club.

Meh. Most people who are young and reasonably athletic can hit the ball 280. You really don’t even need to swing it that fast…

I’m just getting back into golf after being out for a decade. The biggest thing I’ve realized is to just get out of my own head and enjoy myself. I’m out there to relax and forget about everything for a little while.

Genuine question..i went to a trackman today for the first time (ive never played on a golf course) but i love watching golf, i hit 40 balls with this old driver that they had there and 26 if them went 233 to 242 that was with the roll so is that ok? Ive never had lessons or know any golfers lol but would like to try again

I think with the driver misconception a lot of golfers think they drive 280 because they have in fact driven it 280 that one time down wind and slightly down hill with a perfect strike

I will only use my 60 when it is sitting up in the lie. I will never use it from the fairway with a tight lie.
