Flooding the theaters with movies means nothing if people can't afford to see them.
And if they are not movies that people are interested in seeing
Exactly!
Where I live all the theaters got luxury loungers so you have to buy your seat in advance but if you buy online there are more fees. So if I want to take my kids to a movie and want to sit anywhere specific I have to either pay extra buy online or drive to theatre to buy tickets in person in advance. This is an issue
People should work harder. I miss covid when all the gross movie goers were at home.
And of they drop them 2 weeks late on streaming or VOD. You can already watch The Fall Guy at home
@@ZachBobBobthats crazy its just came out may 3rd
Two hours of these two legends? Yay! I’m excited to watch. Hopefully not too many mentions of wrestling 😂
Lighting is cool. I like the last studio with baby blue brick wall and the action figures and books.
I like the lighting of the new place, however I think some wall decor would go well an enhance the overall look. Enjoyed the episode
Thanks for the show Kristian! Excited for Deadpool, house of the dragon & the Acolyte!
Thank you!!
I never thought I'd see the day where there's someone on this space making worse bets than Josh Macuga....
thx! always love when this duo unites.. cheers from seattle
No problem!
@@TheKristianHarloff Duo as in YOU and ROcha Fett
dude, matt serra coming on consistently is AWESOME! I've been a fan of matt's since the UFC fighting days. he's one of those guys that just makes people smile...and, a dude that can absolutely strangle your ass out in seconds. can't wait! just one more reason i love this channel.
Lighting is super nice tbh, it's sleek.
I'm with Rocha, pay execs and investors less which frees up capital for everyone else. Doesn't just apply to movies either, applies to literally every single industry. Also I didn't go see Fall Guy because I knew it'd be on VOD like three weeks after release, studios are just sabotaging themselves. If I knew I couldn't see it for months I would've gone to the cinema.
Prices may very well be the biggest contributing factor for lower movie theater attendance, but the radically shortened window between theatrical release and streaming is a VERY close second imo. We all got used to staying home and watching movies on streaming during covid. We all got "retrained" in our viewing habits, even many of us that LOVE going to the movie theater. But for the average viewer, now that they've been retrained to watch movies at home, if a movie comes out and they know it will be on streaming in a month, they'll wait. It's definitely more convenient to watch something whever you want at home, and you save a lot of money. Make the window 90 days again and I think things could slowly turn back around for the better. It certainly can't hurt!!!
Welcome back to NY - what an exciting new chapter in front of you! I got my tickets to Deadpool this morning.
I never thought I'd agree with Tom Rothman on something. Ticket prices have gotten out of control and there's no reason for it. Also (and I know I keep saying this), studios need to expand the time between theater and home releases. A movie being available at home only a few weeks after it hits theaters is not only hurting studios, but it's conditioning people to stay home. The timeframe should be no less than 3 months. And of course, they need to reel in those budgets. Speaking of, F&F producers making more of those movies for less money is the obvious direction to take. However, they still have to pick up where Fast X left off. They just have to rely on more practical effects and trim down the supporting cast or at least get them to take a pay cut. Nobody needs a $20 million paycheck. Also, I have to push back on Rocha's claim that it's a franchise only for young people and that's somehow why it's not doing as well anymore. That's bullshit. Sure, many of us who were kids when it started are approaching middle age now, but younger people are fans now, many of them being the kids of my fellow millennials who grew up with it. Long running franchises always find new audiences. I love Rocha, but he's been in this line of work long enough to know this. What he said was massively ignorant. As far as movie theater etiquette, that's a case by case basis. There always have been jagoffs who don't know how to behave in that environment. It has nothing to do with generations or the pandemic. Most people at my theater are pretty cool, but then again, I always go to matinees or early evening showings, so it's less crowded and people are more mellow.
Great show as always Kristian and Rocha. Listen every week!
For the algorithm! Keep up the good work Kristian!
I have been a movie lover since I was little and have always gone to a theatre to see a first-run film. It is part of my DNA and it feels a little weird when I see a new movie on streaming. However, I will sometimes opt to wait for a movie to come to streaming if I am not sure of the story or it is not a spectacle/SFX-heavy film that will read well on a small screen. Also, being an AMC A-lister is a game changer. I definitely go more often because of the program.
Congrats Kristian on everything. It’s awesome to follow your career and see all you’ve accomplished. I’m just some random dude in Chicago, but it really is cool to see you succeed.
Got my tickets this morning! Very excited for it. I live in a school bus on the road full time so booking these tickets months in advance is a big commitment for me lol. Kristian get the BEST Wagyu steak you can when Rocha has to buy you dinner.
In the studio, it looks great, and the lighting now makes it a very pretty interrogation room. 🙃
Well done, thanks for your work, greetings from Portugal
I agree with Rocha about the theater experience. I enjoy the late-night theater experience, but I don't tolerate rudeness. There have been times when I've responded confrontationally, like returning the "ghettoness" right back, but I've realized it's not worth it, no matter how expensive the tickets are.
Just here to help the algorithm 😎🤘 keep up the great work
Lifelong New Yorker here. I love that Kristian is enjoying it as much as he is.
Very happy to be back
I'm so curious as to which area of NY he's in. I have a feeling it's Long Island
I love these interactions. The best of luck in this new stage Kristian.
God bless you! If I didn’t see the thumbnail I wouldn’t even know they were on sale. Theater is already packed!
For me going to the theater is usually more of a time problem issue than a money issue. Drive time there and back, arriving early, 30 minutes of trailers and commercials and then a two hour and 15 minute+ movie takes up nearly half a day or the whole evening. They need to cut way down on the trailers and commercials. Get that stuff down to 10 minutes and make us more likely to come back.
Loving the new studio and love watching the progression of its buildup and eventually the final vision 🤩
Awesome show today 😁
Glad to hear you guys with your professional opinions setting the record straight! Also, new studio lookin’ great!
Great stuff as always. ✌️
Im a boxing nerd and have asked KH boxing questions before, he definitely knows his shit.
I’m too young to have seen the Tyson/Holyfield era, but I love YT having most all their career fights, and have watched all them. I know Tyson is beloved, but Holyfield was the real dog, and I’m not saying that just b/c he beat Mike. KH is right, Evander’s resume of opponents is CRAZY.
Looks great! You and Brett's hard work shows.
love this video, you and rocha have the best conversations. Thank you for adding TimeStaps
Saving private Ryan is the best war movie ever! Saw it in theaters back in 98. Imo it’s the best
Congratulations on the new studio brother
Definitely a different era for movie-going. In the 90s, there was only 2-3 big tentpoles every year +maybe a Disney animated movie. Most of the other top 10 movies were dramas or comedies staring the likes of Tom Hanks, sandra bullock or Jim Carey etc.
Sometimes they would be a big action movie with nicolas cage arnold schwarzenegger or James Bond. But more often than not it was a breackout like Something about Mary or Ghost that would be amogst the biggest movies of that year.
Great boxing conversation.
I wish they wouldn’t have put the tickets out over 2 months in advance, I don’t know what I’m doing 2 months from now. Defiantly why I haven’t bought tickets yet.
Deadpool and Wolverine will be my first time back in the theater since Oppenheimer. Price is a factor but my biggest reason for waiting for streaming/Blu-ray is because of how bad the people in the theater have gotten. Everyone just sits on their phone or has a full conversation with whoever they’re there with. During Dungeon’s and Dragons, a family behind me saw the characters eating Turkey Legs then proceeded to plan a trip to Disney so they could go get a turkey leg… I walked out not liking the movie because of the environment around me.
I thought IF was a great movie and really don't understand why people didn't like it. It was a movie for kids and adults and I thought the actors and story was great and I think you guys will like it after seeing it.
Hope your new move works out for you Kristian. Wish you all the best with the UAP and all the new movie news
Are tickets expensive? Well I just paid 65plus Australian dollars to see Furiosa in IMAX, so I guess you could say they are expensive. That was for one recliner seat. That was also as a member of the chain’s rewards scheme. A full 2 dollar discount.
New studio coming together nicely. The coloring and lighting is good. But maybe a smidge dark
yes, on the prices but its more the shrunken viewing window. yes, I don't have a lot of money so I can only afford so many movies a year, but also I wanted to see the fall guy and I know I can see it in a few weeks on streaming.
Studio looks great so far, brilliant work Brett! 😊✌🏾💜🕉
He is crushing it
And YOU should watch 'Shakespeare in Love' to cement YOUR view that SPR _did_ deserve the Oscar over it. Personal growth works both ways, Kristian.😊
SPR?
@@JustinLatham Saving Private Ryan.
I would hope you have someone else on when you do shows with Matt Serra. He seemed very bro-ey the last time you had him on and you need someone like Kris Carr or Roxy to balance him out.
Great vid
You guys have nailed it with regards to the cost of going to the theater. It's not just the dollar amount but the time investment. Even for just two people to see a non matinee with a small drink and small popcorn we're looking at around $40, butter is an extra $2 now too. It may not sound like a lot to people in NY, LA, or Chicago but the cost of everything has gone up so drastically that it's hard to find that extra $40 for a movie more than once every 5-6 weeks so we are a lot more picky with the movies we spend it on.
If Glen Powell is "too big" for Cyclops, why would Austin Butler do Gambit?
Y'all make no sense lol
Why would Austin Butler do Green Lantern if Glen is "too big" for Cyclops? Why would Austin Butler be "waiting for a lead role" when Heat 2, Pirates and Hercules are all on the table?
Shaved face in new studio vibes. Giving 20-something recovering from serious medical problems. Love the show as always! Happy to see you set up in the new studio and hope you get healthy soon.
Love the Midnight Maraurders love. Great ATCQ album.
Does anyone know which video Kristian made the announcement about the move? I missed it
I agree there's no reason the tickets prices cant be 8 dollars again. They aree just too greedy and they dont realize this but they are single handy killing the movie theater experience. Fromcthe exs getting paid to over paying some actors and actress. That money needs to flow down. Tuesday s really the only financial safe time for a big family to go yo the movies. Hell i dont have kids and i go on Tuesday. Where i live its 5 dollars in Tuesday. Only time i go other than that it has to be a movie i want to see a lot. even then i go b4 430 because tickets are 25% less than after that time.
Ticket prices are too high now. So, I think people will pick and choose what films they will see in the theaters and the ones they will wait for to come on streaming. I can’t tell you how many films I’ve rented on Prime and enjoyed the viewing just the same.
Most of my bad experiences in movies have been in kids movies lately. The worse being $4 day showing of Barbie. Aside from that there was a couple of old ladies when I saw Oppenheimer.
Teach your kids proper theater etiquette now guys
Got my ticket the afternoon they came out for the 6pm showing and they still had a decent amount of tickets available
Are you officially in NY permanently now?? Or do you still have some moving to do from LA?
As a hardcore Fast & Furious fan, I think they do need to scale down the budget, but the era of the original F&F movies is long gone. I felt that, in terms of ridiculousness and spectacle, 10 was less crazy than 8 & 9, and those cost around $200m. It would suck to lose some cast for that, would be offputting following the "story" of the last one. Could be more to it than me just saying it, but I'd say they should scale down to the levels of 5 & 6 for 11, between 120-180m, and have the cast take pay cuts....
I saw that one theater (may have been Regal or AMC) offered family ticket prices for a family of 4 for $42 and that is a huuuuuuge discount considering individual ticket prices can easily be $15 to $25 a pop.
Good show
@1:12:22 - Midnight Marauders is my favorite Tribe album as well. Low End is dope but I can listen to MM with no skips.
Good ass episode as always, fellas!
One of my all time favourite albums.
Dropping a comment for support. Keep up the good work!
When I saw Apes, the dbag behind me had his phone volume on full blast and it went off several times. One of which he decided to answer and have a conversation.
I don’t understand how people can sit and let that happen.
@@JustinLatham I was one call away from throwing his phone into the parking lot.
@@ShaneStLaurent I’m a fucking caveman so I don’t advise this in at all! Let me get that out of the way, i tell them that they have one chance to put their phone away or I will hold onto it till the end of the movie for them. Everyone chooses the easy way, if I’m being honest I am much happier that way lol, I don’t want to get fee for stealing someone’s phone but it’s a price I am willing to pay lol.
What’s annoying these days is when people’s door cam notifications keep going off too!
@@alexp601 I will show a stranger how to put their phone in silent mode, no violence necessary! 😂
Prices in the uk have come down as you can now get a ticket for around £6
Rocha’s from DC?! That’s my hometown playboy! Let’s gooo!
the movie i believe is about 2 hours 7 mins long
Good show. Theaters are definitely too expensive to go on a regular basis. Any exec looking at sports pricing is terrible....Football games are beyond expensive. Haven't been able to go to a game in many years.
You mentioned switching the shows up. Some combos I’d love to see are Roxy & Steph, Roxy & Rocha, Serra & Mike, Roxy & Winston, Kris Carr and Rocha. Serra might be fun on the UAP show too!
Serra and Kalinowski would be absolutely bonkers. Haha
I won't lie, I kept thinking of Michael Cera when you brought up doing a podcast with a guy named Matt Serra xD
love the move 🥳
Thank you. We’re trying.
That Biggie joke!? 🔥🔥🔥🔥!!
I have had a few awful theatre experiences recently, I saw the rerelease of TASM 2 and my row people were talking, guy next to me taking photos with the flash on and took a facetime during the movie I was so mad.
I got my ticket already
Watched the whole episode on Spotify. I loved it. I'm going to see Furiosa in the theater but I predict it will bomb at the box office. Brett if you see this comment you're the greatest of all time!
No way I'm buying tickets 2 months in advance
I've already made plan to go see Deadpool and Wolverine with my fiance opening weekend and if it's as good as I assume it is I'll be going back on Saturday
Good Box Office prognostication isn't Rocha's wheelhouse :) Last yr when he predicted The Flash to gross $2bn worldwide is when ppl should've taken all his B.O. takes with fistfuls of salt :)
That bodes well for me.
Lol has he ever made an accurate prediction?
In my opinion The Flash (CGI aside) deserved to make way more money than it did. I love that film.
@@LazyEyeNZI agree. The Flash was terrific.
@@LazyEyeNZ the second act is amazing. I thought the villain reveal and the ending cameos were silly
I wanted to ask you Kristian, since you moved to NY are going to be attending NY Comic-con this year?
Possibly, but I think my comicon days might be behind me
Crazy decision releasing F4, Superman and JW4 all in the same month.
That’s over a year away and will probably change. I doubt anyone will want their film close to Superman
Kristian, that was me that sent you that Hulk Hogan movie 😂 I’m sorry but I had to send you that atrocity
I’m fine with warnings before films and TV shows just as long as the content airs uncut. For example, episode 4 of Baby Reindeer features a trigger warning text before it begins.
I really enjoy you interacting with Rocha. Could you get Macuga to talk with when the next bad boys opens?
Maybe!
Let’s go Wolves!
Regarding the box office stuff, I said this on Dan Murrell’s new video. Movies like Fall Guy and IF did not or might not fail because of quality, they fail because of budget. The movies are making the kind of money you’d expect them to make, the problem is that they would fail because of the budget they were given. If Fall Guy was made at $50M it’s a success, and then with IF at $25M for a budget that is also a success.
With regards to the prices, it’s still apparent that the main movie going audience that hasn’t retuned yet is families. The theaters need to stop the price gauging. I think IF and Garfield which have the same audience relatively releasing a week apart is a massive mistake. You have to separate them out. At the same time extend the that theatrical window. You miss so much money by sending your movie to digital 2 weeks after its release like with Fall Guy.
Also just wanted to put my 2cents in on the movie business conversation as it’s been my final project thesis for my Masters in Economics. Don’t forget that we are at a time of high inflation, housing market is ridiculous across the country. American citizens are paying more than ever for common goods. Entertainment across the board is getting more & more expensive and unfortunately an industry like the movie business that has an alternative (I.E Streaming) is suffering immensely. Cutting costs of executives would obviously help but the problem is systemically much larger then just that. It sounds simple but the short & simple is this: our money is worth less & things are getting more expensive with no end in sight.
I bought my ticket for opening day for IMAX I feel like this movie is going to be extremely epic with maximum Effort and pure awesomeness I'm pumped for this movie I think that they should decrease the prices of food and drinks at the theaters because those are expensive alone and I do think that they should lower movie tickets for both in theater and online.
I have been apart of the movie bubble since i was 18 and used to see every movie in the cinemas, loved the oscar’s. But now that I’m 35 with 2 kids id be lucky to see a handfull at movies. The cost of taking a family of 4 is ridiculous.
Oh damn i forgot Dune 2 came out this year lol. Definitely my top movie of the year
Saved up my Cinemark rewards for two free tickets. Got my Deadpool advance tickets today 🙌🏽🙌🏽
In my humble opinion simple is better. I watch for you and your guests. A lot of background clutter is not necessary.
There has to be an hour show of Big Balls and Finstock soon please
I think the reason The Fall Guy flopped was the bad trailers. None of them were made well and didnt entice me or anyone i know to see it in theatres
Oooh colors
It’s getting there!
@TheKristianHarloff looking gouda .. . Don't turn into pizza the hut on us, lol . Best wishes on this technological marvel you're putting together.
Yeah Iron Claw was brutal and I lived through those years
All that actually happened?
I checked out of the Fast franchise after 8 because it was just too ridiculous at that point, really after 6 my interest was waning, and IDK if I'd come back unless it was basically a reboot back to the undercover crime/street racing thriller with a new cast. No hate to anyone that enjoyed them they just stopped being for me.
Have you said or able to say why you and Brett both moved the show and the families to NY?
Closer to family? Show related effects and benefits?
I am originally from CA and the Los Angeles area. Via CO and Denver since 93. LA IS ROUGH LIVING sometimes. The traffic. Constant travel via car. The huge milage from place to place. ANAHEIM to Santa Monica, for example. Them the traffic delays. It is always a strategic plan of epic thinking before getting anywhere. Then the costs, then the overall weird veil of fantasy, land the mental social blanket that there is. The weird effect of the entertainment industry. Some towns, adjacent neighborhoods, just have a strange vibe from folks. Never feel real.
Anyway, I'm rambling. Don't get me wrong there are times I too really miss my home state and town. I miss my grandparents place that was in Carlsbad near San Diego that's for sure. We'll NY what a big change. Kristian your from the east coast is that correct? Is Brett? If for him this is new wow. Don't worry Brett you will grow to love NY!
Hope the move is a good one for you and Brett and your families.
Also, the three hour change is doing the show now. Did that part hurt???? Maybe a beneficial change huh?
Well, I anticipate Big Balls to have a Bronx accent within months, if not sooner.
May be wearing purple suede suits and a hat with a feather in it. All that by the end of the year.
Big Balls pimping them NY Queens Bronx Streets in no time.
I think Dune 2/Apes being such high quality blockbusters are going to help to keep people coming back to the theaters to see movies like Deadpool this summer
With all the talk of a possible race swap for Rogue, I think it would make a lot more sense to race swap Gambit
Kristian, you need to take a final trip to the tree before you permanently move! Dooo ittt!
