0:00 Intro
0:04 Customer States transmission doesn't shift proper. Installed this one from a junkyard and found this in the transmission pan
0:27 I have seen oil filters 30 years old sitting outside in better condition than this one on this Chevy Cruze
0:39 Customer States "I hit a bump and now it's a little noisy"
0:53 This was the 3rd engine in under 4 months classic Lincolns
1:12 “It only just started making this noise”
1:17 Customer States "my brakes are a little stiff"
1:26 Have seen plenty worse than this but it's definitely not good
1:48 Customer States their car is "undrivable"
2:05 Ouch quite an expensive repair bill coming for this customer
2:15 The people you and I share the roads with
2:22 Customer States "How severe is this oil leak?"
2:38 Customer States "he went to another shop and now hears scraping from front"
2:54 The classic a 'mechanic friend' fixed it for me
3:02 Customer stated "my motorcycle ran a little rough can you replace the spark plugs?"
3:13 Terrifying considering how important components like this are often ignored
3:33 Customer States "Is this a bad wheel bearing?"
3:38 Customer States "My Jeep sounds like a helicopter when I put the a/c on"
3:53 The volume has been turned down a lot in this clip it was extremely loud

No oil change in 3 years. Am amazed the engine was still running. Love the people who flat tow vehicles and don't select neutral...expensive lesson to learn.
Some people don't drive the car, so it's stored for multiple years. Or they only do a few thousand miles per year
@@rustler08 This...mileage has a much greater impact on oil condition than time does
Feel bad for the next owner. Probably a lease return.
@@rustler08 Even then...one oil change per year
@@n325aej I do 6 months or 10 000 kms. Oil is cheap...engines are not.
It doesn't matter that the customers oil wasn't chunky. It's actually way worse than that.
That chocolate milk looking oil means that it coolant is mixing with oil. That customer is screwed.
Head gasket failure due to 60k miles on one oil change overheating engine.
You mean the next owner is screwed . . .
2:25 if you look closely, the drain plug is loose. You see it better at the end of the clip. Also, that's a diff, not an "oil pan"
And looked like coolant
@@servicetrucker5564no it looks like gear box oil yellow
@@enesfazlic6017 I’m not really sure. All I know is my gear oil doesn’t look like that
People call all types of fluids oil and they aren’t wrong, ATF fluid is OIL based Power Steering as well, and Gear OIL
Yup, that's a FWD transaxle with a loose drain plug. Sabotage? "Another Shop" changed gear oil?
The harmonic balancers were known to separate on those old gm 3300 engines, sounded like the bottom end was coming out of them. they had a two piece assembly with interlocking fingers that would knock together when they went bad.
I had that happen to the 3800 on my 89 tornado trofeo
And then it suddenly disappears, ideally when driving on highway.
I am amazed at looking at these videos and seeing totally used up brakes, wheel bearings with 1/4 inch of clearance, and oil never changed time after time. Incredible to me!
Granted, a lot of these people don't have a lot of money... so why they chose to neglect their investment which ends up costing more in the long run is a total mystery.
@@khalidacosta7133 i used to sell autoparts at a place that also did repairs and the things i saw in the videos that people do or don't do could fill a book especially when you tell the customer HOW MUCH repairs are going to cost because of the lack of maintenance,so they say NO and take the vehicle elsewhere but sometimes they would bring it back because we could fix it for less,we did a MERCEDES for a customer and the brake rotors were $550 EACH in 1982 and only avaliable from the MERCEDES DEALER and the special brake pads were $250 a set-both took 5 days to special order from MERCEDEDS
If only mechanics had the authority to revoke someone's license. :3
2:38 that’s the diff, and the drain plug isn’t in all the way lol
I thought something looked off there.
As for the Jeep that sounds like a helicopter, my Ranger does the same thing with the AC on. The RPMs just get too low combined with a worn input shaft bearing in the transmission. if I give it a little throttle it'll go away.
The first honda cr-v had a lever on the transmission you could remove a small bolt turn the lever and reinstall the bolt in another bolt hole four inches away and tow it anywhere but not on today's vehicles. Great content as always. As a retired mechanic it hilarious to see it wasn't much difference from 50 years ago just how really dumb some vehicle owners can be. Thanks again
A lot of the vehicles you see on these channels with flat tow damage...are also not meant for flat towing!!
Typically, only certain 4wd vehicles, with good t cases, that can be put into neutral.
There's an annual list compiled by an RV publication, of all the "dinghy" approved vehicles
@@LEOhopeful yep you're exactly right I've been towing for over 40 years and I've seen many of these. Very few can be flat towed. The most comprehensive books are the AAA towing manuals provided to towing contractors. The next best info is in the owners manual in every vehicle provided by the manufacturer
@@michaelvarble4392
I used to sell new cars...Important info to know lol
"Well, we want this to tow behind or motorhome...it's cute"
"Ok, but it cannot be flat towed"
"Why not?"
Do you really think ALL those people with RVs actually LIKE jeeps THAT much? LOL
@@LEOhopeful if people would take the time to read the entire owners manual it shows you everything you will ever need to know about the vehicle. Mechanics use these manuals for fuse location relay location. A prime example is a Mercedes that gets a flat tire the wheel is aluminum and about 2 inches thick the spare wheel and tire is a steel space saver spare about a half inch thick the manufacturer supplies a different set of lug bolts for the spare tire so if you use the wrong lug bolts it does about a thousand dollars worth of damage to the brakes and electronics. There is also instructions on the decklid. It's amazing how many people remove the owners manual and leave it at home because of so much junk in the glovebox. Sorry for the length of the comment.thank you for your comment Sir 👍
@@michaelvarble4392 you're not wrong
Most cars, taken in on trade have no owner's manual, even though the original owner was the one trading it in
3:18 Or potentially not - depends on how bad the accident ends up being.
That gearbox oil leak video that customer sent is the drain plug almost loosened all the way off.
You can see the drain plug almost coming completely out.
It’s funny that you have a bicycle chain ring as your logo…
@2:22 NOT oil, that is transmission fluid.
This is what you get when there is no regular mandatory safety inspection. I realise this varies by state and items such as emission can be a pain, but this situation of low/no maintenance compounded by owner ignorance is essentially third-world. Plus sharing the road with these poorly serviced vehicles puts other drivers at risk, essentially accidents going somewhere to happen.
Jack, the Japan Alps Brit
Just think, these maintenance nightmares are from people who are paying their loans. How would you like to buy one of these if it was repoed?
2:38 top right that drain bolt is barely even in
People who flat tow and never look in the mirror. There’s no way that vehicle wasn’t smoking like crazy.
I’m afraid the other side that’s not connected is still within specification. Green check mark on mpi for front suspension.
Looking at the pan in the first clip, I can say that is Nissan Sentra CVT for sure. 0:13
2:25 Ummm...that's not the engine oil pan. That is the front differential case. Maybe the oil pan is directly above the diff and it is oil running down the diff but it looks like gear oil leaking from the diff. In that scenario, the engine will be fine, but the differential will blow soon.
Customer states harmonic balancer is no longer bringing harmony.
When our 02 Trailblazer backfired through the engine, it chipped the harmonic balancer, blew a coil apart, all kinds of mess. 😮
Oh look, another video. Time to get a beer.
This is why cars with big oil leaks are great. They always have fresh, clean oil in them...just gotta throw a new filter on every few months lol
prevents rust
1:28 ok, the colour of this oil does not look good (water inside?) - but should there not be MUCH more oil??
I wish you guys would explain what we're looking at in these clips so those of us with less knowledge can learn something. For example, (0.20) what were all the link-like things in the pan? I can't make heads or tails of that clip. 😫
Description sounds like a CVT belt or timing chain. In this case, CVT belt.
Best I could tell you this is my video the replacement transmission for a Nissan Sentra we went to change the the transmission filter before we finish the install and this is what we found I've been told it's a chain like belt that obviously failed catastrophically
can you provide de vehicle modele please :C
I think the customer needs to take more care of their car. 🤣
2nd car "no oil change in over a year"
Well, technically 5 years IS over a year lol
Mechanic states: Nope. Not today.
amazing what ppl will drive and put everyone live in danger
Damn rubber band broke
I've seen harmonic balancers go bad and sound like a rod knock.
My car hasn't had an oil change for 4 years, probably time to fix that lol
How on earth are some of these people allowed to drive. They absolutely no sense of safety at all.
Most CVT after 160k miles: 0:08
4:14 ok how is that engine running with no serpentine belt?
No problem. The belt is driving the powerstearing, the generator and maybe the water pump. The engine runs fine without these for a few minutes.
If it was me, I think I'd keep the harmonic balancer and get rid of that shit tip of a car !😮😢😅😂
Not an oil pan.
I have sent vehicles in better mechanical shape to the scrap yards rather than drive them. Sometimes you just can't fix them any more.
The trick is to not get that far behind on maintenance and not live somewhere with salted roads
@@servicetrucker5564 Mine are always well maintained for safety but sometimes even in spite of undercoating, the tin-worm wins. I've only ever scrapped a couple from rust.
No oil change. Ya insurance claim. New car ….. lots of them are ….
I never did think those belt driven CVT's were any good.
They're very good, they just never caught on. Especially because Nissan's early ones were garbage while others ones by Toyota, and even the later Nissan ones, lasted as you'd expect a transmission to last.
That, combined with the lack of shifting freaking people out, makes it a technology that is far ahead of its time that people right now just can't wrap their heads around. After all, forget 10-speed transmissions: the car with a CVT could be perfectly tuned with the "infinite gear ratios" to maintain the perfect RPM for either efficiency or power, depending on necessity.
@@rustler08 My greatest fear is they transfer the power with friction. That belt and pulleys are going to wear. When they do they going to slip. If the power isn't getting to wheels its going into heat.
@randycarter2001 Oh, yea its the belt links. I was wondering what those parts were. @rustler08 how many gears do you really need though. Its like how bicycles kept going up from 10 speed to 20 speed, and then 27 speeds. At a certain point you lose too much power just shifting around trying to find the perfect ratio. No one drives like that, even on the freeway.
We have a Toyota with a CVT. They are fine. A bit weird at first. And like most things with proper maintenance they last.
@@givemespace2742 Toyota claims their Synergy Drive hybrid transmission is a CVT. It's not. It only has 1 gear ratio. It uses the interplay between the 2 motors to provide the variable torque to propel the vehicle.
I don't know why I'm still shocked as to how unsafe some of these cars are, but I am.
Ya. No safety inspection….Tell the douche bag from Indiana with a rotted POS drop a chunk of the frame on the highway in New York thruway
Here in Pennsylvania we have to get our vehicles inspected once a year and lots of these things are found before they get this severe . It used to be twice a year. Now there’s a bill going thru congress to only have them inspected at times of sale. I hope it doesn’t pass. If it does we’ll probably start seeing junk like those shown begin to litter the highways
Can't really understand you in clip from 3:54, you should turn down the volume of the clip while you are talking.
Friends dont let friends buy CVTs
We reached peak efficiency in mechanical devices around 40-50 years ago. Now they're just more fragile and more complicated, without being more efficient.
0:05 yeap, the worst transmission ever made, the Nissan cvt.
Hey narrator, do you ever speak normally? Do you have to accentuate every letter "A" and every word "an"?
Now this is all I'm going to focus on when watching future videos.
