Why is Halo 5's Campaign SO BAD!? (Part 4) Boring Conflicts, Ruining Cortana, & Bad Choreography

- In part 4, The Act Man talks about the conflicts/antagonists in Halo 5, how 343i managed to ruin Cortana's character and everything she did in the previous games, and also the poor choreography and huge flaws in the Locke vs. Chief Fight scene.
Overall, Halo 5's problems do not just make it a bad story, if Halo 5 is considered canon, then it ultimately ruin the older stories as well. Which is a terrible thing!
But what does The Act Man have to say about all of this? You'll have to watch to find out!

I'm glad Sgt. Johnson was killed off before 343i could ruin him.
Yea me too
Yeah I agree I'm glad that he died a hero
sad that we actually have to agree with this, fire 343 already at least the shitty ass writers
Agreed
Jensen Wild Until I read your comment I was sad he died, but now I see your point haha, better to die a badass than to fade into insignificance because of crummy writing
You literally just wrote the best possible story line for the Warden without even being paid to do so. Friggin' sad
Indeed.
Agreed this mans basically did the whole job of the writing staff Microsoft need to take pointers from this video
Cortana is still dead i think that is just some lost and mad one after Halo 4
Act man is a writing God
Seriously I seen a lot of CZcamsrs who analyze, dissect, and criticize stories in shows, movies, and games, and half the time CZcamsrs seem to do a better writing job than most of the paid writing staff of any company.

Gets pimped slapped across the face. His helmet gets a crack in it. #gamelogic
He got a sick scratch on his chest...
and shot with plasma rifle and pistols
And just to drive it in further, Spartan II armor is supposed to have costed around the same monetary resources and military weapons development as a *_warship_* (main reason why the project was cut short). You'd expect such an Iron Man-level suit to be at least strong enough to tank a slap fight.
And that's without counting in the *_goddamn forcefield_* they're supposed to have.
Not even just that, this is a Spartan II vs IV. Look at Jorge compared to the rest of Noble, or even that bitch with the white armor compared to Chief in the ending cutscene of 4. IVs are all willing adult participants and not nearly as heavily augmented, yet Locke is somehow the same height and nearly the same weight as Chief, and can somehow go toe to toe with him, despite the fact that if it were consistent in literally anyway Chief could've just punched his fucking head clean off.
@@Spewb It's been said elsewhere in the lore that The MJOLNIR-2 Armor that the Spartan IVs wear is better than the Mk5/Mk6 armor that the Spartan-IIs got, so that it makes up for their less extensive/powerful bodily enhancements and brings IVs more or less on par with IIs. Without their armor, Chief kicks Locke's ass without a problem.

Act Man is the voice of the Halo community.
You may say that again
Yeah thats why I think 343i is lying when they say they're listening to the community. If that were true, all of these problems discussed by Act Man would've been fixed. Fuck everyone at 343i and Microsoft who ran Halo into the dirt.
I hope he is, let's hope the actual community keeps it's mouth shut so someone more civilized can express what we think.

Not all of us are Sargon subscribers. A lot of this series is good but that bit he did really set off some red flags
343 comes in watches this and Brian Reed gets fired.
Amen.
Might as well fire their artists, musicians, and programmers too.
+I BOOM I fire the whole entire company to be even more exact
The problem is that for the artist they have one of the best in the industry but the problem is that he makes his own art style, for the musicians its okay buy I think 343 wants him to make it sound like halo 4s instead, and programmers just do what they are told to do.
The art isnt even bad. I mean alot isnt nessary but its not bad.
F.Y.I. Halo's art style and etc changed when Microsoft got all rights to the game because they were trying to make it their own game and not care about the past Halo games they want Halo to be their own game but to change that and make Halo Halo again we all need to tell Microsoft boycott or whatever needs to be done to tell Microsoft that we want actual Halo not their rendition of Halo.

If the Warden has an infinite amount of bodies and his goal was to kill Osiris, he could have just sent in 500 bodies and killed them the first time.
@Ghaz Cinema Yes because having
the tech to teleport anywhere makes logistics a problem when you have infinite bodies that can pop up wherever they please.
He doesn't have infinite bodies. Cortana says "this one has one mind but many [hundreds, thousands, I can't remember] bodies"
@himode The difference is, the Didact didnt really care about the Chief and thought of him as inconsequential. Chief possessed no real threat or even slow the Didact down until the very end. The Warden legitimately wanted to kill the Spartans and had no reason to hold back.
Agreed or maybe he can only control a certain number of bodies at a time
@@kapitankapital6580 just 50 would have destroyed them hell 3 took me 2 hours on legendary and the rest of the team is kind of dumb
The thing that pisses me off the most about Halo 5 is Cortana. The writers completely fucking ruined the emotional, heartbreaking ending of Halo 4 and then proceed to completely go against her character by making her want to rule the universe. I hate this game so, SO much.
bepis Well she was already going insane and was half dead because of the rampancy, and we saw in Halo 4 her rampant self is pretty aggressive. Now take a version of Cortana that is basically just the rampancy, and give her the AI fountain of youth and the ability to actually do something about her aggression. Personally I'm a fan
bepis logic plague
XFORCEGUY01 ^^
bepis yeah, it’s awful
I'm confused why Chief's helmet got damaged by that hit. He has shields, did they forget that?
KayronTheFifth
Probably yes.
And also there is no meening for the figth in the first place and just like not that intense
Mayra Ledee he literally jumped off a ship the end of halo 2 and smacked the ground and was fine after a few minutes , this game lol
I know this is an old comment but, I'm still heated about how poor this scene was made. The shields, the fact that Spartan IIs have a reaction time that make the Spartan IVs look slow, the fact that a Spartans Helmet is built to be able to drop from orbit, blue team would never let him fight this particular fight alone, Chief should have never lost balance considering his core strength and the overall weight of the armor with a 7ft 2 man whos jacked to the gills and has bones fused with a metal like substance. Why didn't either of them utilize their boosters? Sad that it seems the writers of 4 and 5 don't show the real capability of Spartans outside of the the introduction of Fire Team Osiris.
It's ok I believe in halo infinite we might get cutscene of chief fighting a brute chieftain
Seriously, the choreography pisses me off the most. Anybody who knows anything about fighting should be extremely disappointed
So, I should feel disappointed that they didn't throw a few furious, wild punches, with most of them missing wildly and then grappling on the ground for what feels like an eternity? :) I don't think anyone wants to see "a real fight" (or even an MMA match) in any game or movie. Honestly, the Locke vs MC fight went kind of like I would expect from two guys in bulky power armor who are still on the same side, share mutual admiration and don't necessarily want to hurt one-another. I would expect a lot of showmanship, restraint and hesitation as opposed to speed and efficiency. So considering all this, I don't think that this fight was too bad.
Spencer, are you one of those guys that say "oh, I would have parried and ducked to the right"? Or are you just a sap?
Prizrak2084 and you would be dead. Locke is a god damn assassin and Chief has not given two shits about honor for even a moment in his life. And these guys are cyberneticly enhanced killing machines. Every punch they throw would be fast, precise, and lethal enough to kill a normal person on contact.
@@Aredel they're genetically augmented, not cybernetically enhanced

No, halo 5 doesn't matter. It's not canon *breathes another intake of copium*
Ditto here. Six is my favorite character in the entire series.
To me the Halo 5 campaign doesn't exist. I refuse to accept it. I felt more emotion, IN THE FIRST SCENE OF HALO 3 than i did in the entire campaign of halo 5.
I felt more emotion with Chief meeting Palmer in Halo 4 then I did in all of Halo 5.
I felt alot of emotion while playing Halo 5, disappointment and anger.
To be honest, can guardians even be considered a video game? It is an abomination that deserves to be burned to the ground and erased from history. I mean, everything about this pile of garbage is bad. Even the notorious Sea of Thieves, once said by Act Man as "the most boring game" to have been made is better than this game. That's just sad.
The game mechanics and engine were such a great base, but god that cutscene locke vs chief is stupid, chief is supposed to be the pinnacle of experience, fortitude, and combat expertise, but nooo he has to be slowed down so it looks like a normal fight
Now you know how Star Wars fans feel.

@@massivetism Cortana and MC's story should've ended with Reach - full circle. Then the galaxy is our oyster as we follow a new Spartan or maybe even a totally different main character in general - as Humanity dusts itself off and finds itself nursing a grievance with the past 20+ years of genocide, the Elites struggle to reconcile their notions of honor with the weight of their actions among the covenant, the brutes and the Jackals and all the rest find themselves suddenly adrift without a purpose or united cause. This is some compelling shit, why did we get Halo 4 and 5?
@@fuzzydunlop7928 I agree 100%. Maybe that new spartan could have been Locke. I quite like Locke as a screen presence but we don't know nearly enough about him to give a shit about his story. And yeah, I wish they had developed the conflict between the humans and elites. In Halo 4, all they have is a throw away line that only amounts to "The elites were with us, but now they switched back." Its just lazy what they did. I'm hoping that infinite will be a good game but I don't see how they can fix the story at this point.
I don’t own an Xbox but I have played Halo at a friends house and really enjoyed it, but I don’t understand the story is Halo Reach a prequel?

Everything good gets ruined by money and greed. The only passionate team at 343 is the forge team.
it shows
When all you love is money you'll do anything for it
Oh whats that line from The Producers... ' You can make more money with a flop than with a hit'
Guess it paid off for 343 and Microsoft
What about the music team? Kazuma is good, but obviously Marty is better, but I don't think Kazuma isn't putting care into his tracks.
Also I think the reason Marty wasn't contacted by 343 was because they already had Kazuma, or Marty was still busy at Bungie at the time. Possibly both. But uh. Marty didn't say no to doing more Halo, but he didn't give a yes guaranteed.
I hope 343 actually contacts him... I really do because imagine Kazuma and Marty together.
I hope 343 didn't keep him out for those reasons though...
Oh and I do like the sound design. I understand they've mostly replaced old sounds, but they are payed to make new things, but they did put passion into the sounds.
If Halo 6 has old school weapons mixed with new a lot more then they do now, then sound replacement won't matter anymore.
Though I agree almost entirely with the campaign being absolutely terrible, the multiplayer is also pretty fantastic and is something that has actually kept me playing a year later which hasn't been done since Halo 3. I think 343 has done a great job of adding new content to the game. Especially free content.
I have honestly tried to go back and replay the campaign on multiple occasions including looking for all those audio logs and I still can't bring myself past the third mission because it truly is that bad.
Me: Hah. Why is Act Man talking about choreography? What's he know?
Act Man: I've been a martial artist for about 8 years.

We need to create a petition for Act Man to rewrite and rerelease halo 5
I think the opening confrontation of Chief and the Arbiter in Halo 3 showcases Master Chief's close combat skills far, far better than the bullshit "fight" between him and Locke in H5. Immediately after noticing the invisible Arbiter, Chief, in the blink of an eye, grabbed Johnson's pistol from his belt, turned off the safety, galloped over towards the Arbiter and had the pistol right underneath the Arbiter's chin ready to blow his brains out and, while he didnt use martial arts, every move he made was precise and quick as a master in hand to hand combat should be. Whoever choreographed that "fight" between Chief and Locke did a pathetic job
actually i counted and i blinked 23 times before Chief got the gun to his throat/head
@@chefboyardee1148 well chief would have aged since halo 3 so technically his decreased speed and agility in hand to hand combat would make some sense
I don't think that 6 years (of wich 4 in cryosleep) would have made a SPARTAN-II that much slow in the overall agility/combat. It's even worse when it is compared to the apparently younger and more trained SPARTAN-IV.
Maybe i'm wrong but the game doesn't really talk about this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They didnt choreograoh it at all they RANDOM!!ized it:)

I will not bother getting Halo 6 if Brian Reed is the writer.
Same, because that idiot fucked everything up single handedly in one damn shitty ass game (a culmination of all the other crap he's written before in that crappy escalation comic). If I don't see Staten's name, or Schlerf's name, or ANYBODY else's name on the lead writer chair for Halo 6, and its his name I see, I write off Halo 6 completely. I love this series, but I don't - and that includes everyone else who cares about this series as well - do not deserve to see a shitty story like this.
Agreed. I want to see Joseph Staten come back to do the story, or at least someone like him.
Halo 6 is a used game purchase at this point. Unless I find a really good deal on it like I did with Halo 5. But I am not really all that interested in getting it day one. Never thought I would say that about a Halo game.
PartyUpLive Gaming I think we should all wait for HONEST independent reviews after the game's release before we even consider getting Halo 6.
I want the writer for Halo 4 back to be honest. He wrote a story that I was emotionally invested to. Sure some things didn't make sense if you didn't read the extended lore, but it still gave us a story I could get attached too. I knew Halo 5 was fucked when I heard the writer for Spartan Ops (what a success that was) would be writing it
My reaction to Cortana’s portrayal in Halo 5:
*Darth Vader dramatic scene* NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
They really should've not killed off The Didact in Halo 4. Then we'd have a CLEAR antagonist with already set goals! Simple! AND we can expand upon his character and make him more memorable!
In Halo: Escalation it is revealed that he survived the attack, and in order to kill him the master chief activates a halo to kill him. Doesn't make much sense I know but thought this little bit of info might be useful
Even better - he’s not dead, simply contained. His physical body evaporated, but his mind/soul has been sealed away.
They didn't even kill him in game. His consciousness survived-that's why he was talking after his "death" in the epilogue.
Don't worry, though! They killed him for real in a random comic book! 🤡

Cortana being the villain in Halo 5 could have been done well...
But it wasn't.
BTW, mind blow moment when you revealed you were a black belt instructor. It just goes to show how far-reaching Halo used to be as a franchise...and more importantly, no shill can ever say you aren't qualified to talk about fight choreography.
I don't know about that. Even if she were done well, I would still be pissed they brought her back at all.
aFuturnaught It would have needed to wait at least one more game, at least. It was too soon.

One of the more refreshing parts of the Halo was the complete reversal of the tired old "dispassionate robotic AI" trope. The AIs were a mirror of humanity, despite being powerful technological beings they shared many of our flaws and behaviour and displayed a comradery with humanity and in some cases even love.
But nope 343i can only do tired old cliches so we get yandere Cortana going skynet and every single AI in the UNSC siding with her.
Halo 3 and developer commentaries for CE made it pretty clear that she was originally intended to go mad with power and become a corrupted "evil Cortana". It would totally make sense that she wanted to save humanity from themselves after being hacked by the Gravemind. If you read the short story "Human Weakness" you learn he tried to corrupt her principles to serve humanity to get critical information out of her by tormenting her with the concept of mortality.
This is actually the direction the story was headed in if you look into it. It was set up for Halo 4 and everything. She would have gone mad after discovering the power of Requiem, and she would have shown signs of rampancy based on her corruption from the logic plague: a Flood based A.I. virus, where she slowly let on reasons that would explain why she would later become a space tyrant and awaken the Guardians. The writer of Halo 4 was the guy that pushed to have her killed off from dementia like symptoms in a more character central less plot oriented fashion.
I think Halo 5's story just had colossally terrible direction. Watch COG connected. He dissects how the Bungie Halo's had similar story problems that were saved by a brilliant presentation. Halo 4 had the most story problems from a writing perspective, even more than 5, but a lot of people still really like it because it was presented well. I think if it had been presented better, Halo 5's story - even as it is - had loads of potential. I can see the threads connecting things, it's just Halo 4's existence makes none of it make any sense.
The Guardians could have been presented as mysterious with some kind of emphasis on their presence. There could have been some kind of emphasis on the fact that Buck's conversation with Locke pays off by explaining why Fireteam Osiris just stands there and watches - they're morally conflicted about confronting the Chief. There would have been some kind of visual or auditory emphasis to the throwaway line from one of the cardboard cutouts in Blue Team who suggested that the Warden Eternal is helping Cortana psychologically manipulate the Chief (confirmed by a conversation between Cortana and the Chief in the mission The Breaking) to possibly motivate him to betray humanity in the next game upon some kind of revelation about ONI.
Honestly, I found it ironic that the Guardians did nothing to make an intimidating impression for newer iterations, yet years later the mechanical menace known as Artifice Ophion from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 would make so much more of an incredible impression and would also serve as a super boss, also ironically fought at level 117.
Ophion is the metal worm one right?
How can Cortana die? Isn't she a purely digital entity? Couldn't you just copy/paste her data onto a flash drive and remake her at any time?
She was made from a cloned copy of Halsey's brain and the days is probably millions of terabytes. Which is why rampancy happens, way too much info makes the ai break down

That fight Chief VS Locke scene made me cringe so hard. I would have LOVED to see chief kicking all of Osiris's asses in a fast-paced 1v4 fist fight. That would have been amazing to watch, as well as being pretty realistic and in-line with the lore.
I find it funny how 343i is so concerned about the lore of halo, as to make the elites way taller (pretty much overcomplicating the situation for playable elites, thus making it more difficult than they are willing to handle) and to bring in the forunners/prometheans as enemies.
But yet, they still havent bothered to provide ANY differentiation between the spartan 2's and the 4's. Hell they even make up the bullshit excuse that 'the new armour makes up for the spartan 4s' lack of muscular strength', which makes no sense since their armour would have to be even more powerful than what the 2's wear (The 2's had to be augumented to such a degree in order to safely utilise the older mjolnir armour, but 343i wants to claim that the spartan 4's, with much less extreme augumentations, are somehow able to take advantage of EVEN MORE POWERFUL armour).
Sorry if I sound like a bit of a crazy fanboy, but i just wanted to express my thoughts on the topic.
Keep up the great work! Your channel is awesome, always has been!
That's not even talking about the fact the both Blue Team and Osiris wear the same armour in Halo 5 ...
In the fight scene between Chief and Locke, they could have made it a million times more interesting if they had all of Osiris fight him at once in a Red vs Blue style fight. Granted it's a 4v1, but Chief is supposedly the most renowned SII the UNSC has ever produced. Making it a 4v1 could have made a more impressive cutscene and given Osiris's mission more of a magnitude to show just how difficult it would be to hunt a team of Spartan IIs

The Act Man: Cortana is now Skynet !
Me : *Chokes and dies*
The fight between Locke and Chief should have been choreographed in a way similar to the fights between Captain America and Winter Soldier in Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Not even that, there shouls have been a boss fight between Locke and Chief that would've been one of the most epic moments in gaming history. A boss fight against chief............I'm crying tears of joy just thinking about it
+2xucan I also thought about that. I was thinking since Chief is obviously physically superior to Locke they could have made the boss fight fit the idea that Locke can't take out Chief head on. For example, the setting of the fight could be in an area thats almost like a maze like place like an abandoned building. With chief having a damaged motion detector and playing as Locke u would have to fight Chief indirectly the entire time such as attacks from behind, hitting him with ground pound when he's not expecting it and etc. And they could make chief extremely mobile and agile with almost pinpoint accuracy, and actual real melee such as punching, kicking, and throwing u if he gets ahold of you. And at the end of the fight Chief proves too much for Locke too handle. Thats just an example of how I imagine the boss fight being. Along with some badass dialogue and music. I honestly believe with a shitload of effort it can be done
RZIBARA master chief is a spartan 2 the other horrible disgrace of a Spartan is a spartan 4 chief would have won immediately.
I think the Locke vs Chief battle should have went like this...
Locke steps in: "Chief you're coming with me..."
Chief: "Like hell I am."
Locke shoots a BR round at Chief. It hits him, but he doesn't care... Chief charges at Locke and does a quick fast punch which knocks Locke onto the ground.
Osiris Team runs over to Locke to aid him.
Chief says to Blue Team "I got this."
Blue Team then goes over to the portal thingy and leaves.
Chief beats all of Osiris and drops a grenade in the middle of them. This puts them all into armour lock and chief leaves in slow motion with epic music.
you know its funny the game is so forgettable I actually had a hard time remembering if I even played it or not (and I beat the game :/)
Likewise bud. I stopped after I saw that ending and didn’t go back to it. All I remember is Cortana was turned evil and the poor fight between Osiris and the Chief. That fight was nothing what I was expecting, there should’ve been no way that they were on even grounds. I mean it’s not like the Chief alone killed hundreds of Brutes and Elites before coming to that point. It’s like the developers didn’t even play the other games.
None of the levels have that same effect that the other games do. We all remember the tank missions and how they're dropped off in an epic way. Fighting against Scarabs in ground vehicles. It's mostly in delivery and depth, Halo 5 feels like it was trying to be epic but just felt empty as a result. The only part of Halo 5 I remember is any part with the Arbiter, and he's not even the main character.
I just played through the original 5 games and tried playing 4, as I've only ever played it once. It looks like Halo, but it isn't Halo. By mission 2, I've settled into constantly running out of ammo after every singular engagement and picking off everyone from a distance.
The Cortana problem was literally so fixable, bare minimum: "This isn't Cortana, it's a Promethean virus that copied her code when she was inside the Composer"
Dude that "NONE OF THIS MATTERS" bit with Johnson had me laughing so hard that I had coffee coming out of my nose

The Cortana/Domain bit gave me an aneurysm because the domain is supposed to destroyed after the firing of the Halos. Which is why the Didact was insane in Halo 4.
EXACTLY. THE DOMAIN DOESN't EXIST IN THE CURRENT TIME PERIOD. 343i needs to read their own lore before making a game. They have proven with Halo 4 that if they hire the right people, they can make a good story. What the fuck even was H5?
The funny thing is 343 stated that all the novels were canon. Apparently they didn't bother to check their own canon before taking from it.
@@HolyknightVader999 lol 343i doesn't do their homework it seems

DONGLE LOVER we can’t enjoy it for what it is because it’s not good. If you had a steak and it sucked, you’re not going to enjoy it for what it is. You’re gonna be like “this tastes awful”
Yeah. I mean, I enjoyed parts of Halo 5. The character design (not multiplayer, yuck) and some of the game environments look really good. But there's too much that is just plain bad. If you truly love Halo, then you wouldn't just accept something like this. You'd want 343 to do the best they possibly can in order to make a great Halo game. It's never going to be the same without the original Bungie, but it doesn't have to be this bad. Halo 4, while flawed, still had some good writing and was at least cohesive. It explored something Bungie never did, and that played to 343 in defining Halo as a franchise that was no longer owned by Bungie moving forward. But Halo 5 is just a failure. A big, stinking failure that spits in the face of everyone who ever enjoyed playing a Halo game for the story. Brian Reed is a horror story of a writer.
After I beaten halo 5 I questioned if my brain still exist.
hell I can't use grammar in the right way because of this game.

You didn't beat Halo 5, Halo 5 beat you.
There is concept art of a "zombie" didact and it looks sooooo sick, imagine him as the main villain and then the warden eternal turns on him after discovering his past and does what Darth Vader did with palpatinel, it would be aaaaaaawesome!
The warden eternal was a cool boss
Yet I completely forgot he even existed because fighting him 84 times just made him bland and irrelevant in the greater picture
So...um...can we like pretend Halo 5 is not cannon, and say that the story ended at the end of Halo 4? maybe?
If Halo 6 fails, I will personally consider the series to have ended at Halo 4.
I already do
Halo 3's the best place to leave off, everything from halo 4 to 6 would have just been a bad dream MC was having in cryo.

I'm not done fighting the good fight!!! Here is another video that goes in-depth on the conflicts in Halo 5, the confusing Guardians, how Cortana's character is ruined, and why the fight between Locke and Chief can show us two of Halo 5's biggest problems with the story.
Hope you enjoy! I put a lot of effort into this one, and I hope the wait was worth it ;)

Hey can you make another video about why Roland isn't joining the Cortana uprising thing? Roland is an AI just like Cortana. And he still helps Infinity. And Why did the Covenant and Forerunners fight each other? at the end of Halo 4 we see the Didact die so is that why the foreigners are turning against the Covenant or were they ordered to turn against them because of Cortana? And what the fuck is up with Cortana trying to Protect Master Chief? She tried to lock him up in that orb for 10,000 nd still thinks that he will join her? And the ending after the credits with the Halo ring with Cortana humming? Does that mean the Flood will come back again. At the end of Halo 3 the Halo rings were fired to destroy the Flood. Halo as in Halo wars Halo 1, 2, and 3. What the fuck will it take to kill the Flood once and For all?
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay, another video!!!

jay cartwright it’s the other way around for me. But man there’s much common ground. character assassinations of various, and two MAJOR characters along with a plot with that makes no sense
jay cartwright good point dude, and it would have been a cool concept to have but i just felt like it wasn’t executed wisely. I felt like this sort of thing would be Luke in his time during the OT as he was in worst positions to justify isolation and questionable decisions but that’s just me. Most people got something out of him in TLJ, so that’s cool with me
jay cartwright we don’t even get shit about evil cortana
The fight between Locke and Chief should've been Obi Wan and Darth Vader in Episode 3, but instead of that we got the same people fighting like in Episode 4.
Writer: creates a shit storm of a story
Non writer: creates a background for the Warden in less than 3 minutes. DAMN WRITERS MAN
It wasn't very good though, and doesn't really fit in the universe. If this guy is "the protector of the universe", then where has he been for, like, ever? Why is he only hanging out round Cortana? Better to just drop the character completely.
"He's a Spartan II. What'd you expect?" That made me laugh. knowing buck's character, that would've been awesome
I cracked up at “Jewl Bellagio” haha that running gag of changing is name each time is golden!
So I was playing Halo 5 through recently because I wanted to finish it before playing Halo Infinite story. My 11 year old son was son confused about the Covenant fighting... he was like "Why is the Arbiter still fighting the covenant? Is it the same brutes or prophets from Halo 2 and 3?"... and I was like "uhhhh no... it's other covenant guys"... and he was like "Oh... why are they fighting then?"... And I think bout it and have no freaking clue. I don't know if they ever mentioned it... it was such a throw away line in the background that I have no clue.
"Don't let her go, don't EVER let her go..."
Literally the saddest quote in Halo history.. RIP Sergeant Johnson

Watching Master Chief just brutally kick the shit out of 4 dudes at once would've honestly been a fantastic scene. I would have never thought about just how kick-ass that would've been until you put it into this context.

And I have no idea which design choice you’re referring to. There were so many.
@@Aredel We have truly been robbed of so much of our childhood
they shut down the old servers of the original halo trilogy, ODST and Reach
we got a show that's wack
At least Infinite looks gud
So I'm up here watching all the parts to why Halo 5 is so bad, and without even watching a full minute into part 4, I saw part 5 in my up next. I'm not even gonna bother watching anymore, the fact that there's 5 parts says enough, if you ask me. Now let me just throw this out there, I'm not a Halo Veteran. I'm not quite as invested in the halo franchise as everyone else. Example: I never finished the Halo 3 campaign myself Cuz my fuckin disc scratched, and had to watch the rest if the levels on CZcams. I also never played halo 2, until I was at my friend's house for his birthday, and got to play for the first time, on the original Xbox too. I also almost didn't finish Halo Reach because I was too scared to play a part of the campaign. Moral of the story is that I stick out of this fanbase like a polar bear in the desert, but even I can tell that saying Halo 5 is Pure, Raw, and unrefined ass is the understatement of the millenia. Like, the simple and traditional "this game is fucking trash" won't cut it here, I'd need to dissect this shit myself by actually playing, but fortunately for Halo 5's fragile emotions, I don't have the luxury of owning an Xbox one.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk

Johnson, one of our favorite characters, died for no reason
; ;
-
One of the reasons it made sense to me was that Johnson was a soldier to the end, doing his job following orders and dying in a instance by astray round, out of the blue. The idea of Soldiers are expendable hardware. It felt real in an unreal world.
Also, the domain doesn't exist. 343 Guilty Spark acknowledges this partially in a CEA terminal saying he had no contact with the Domain and without it, future generations would only know about the Forerunners weaponry, and the history of all Forerunners was lost. The Domain was a huge gathering of knowledge that was somewhat sentient and was wiped out when the Halo rings fired. Also, how did she access the domain, when, where, and why? We aren't told. Insane.
I already talked about this in another comment but "Over a century after the Array's activation, the Bornstellar Makes Eternal Lasting, formerly the IsoDidact, viewed a recording from the Librarian relaying the Gravemind's message. He shared the recording with Chant-to-Green and both realized the consequences of the loss of the Domain. Understanding what that the Domain needed to be somehow repaired, Bornstellar, Chant, and a group of other Forerunners journeyed to Maethrillian to accomplish this. Along the way some of the group encountered Abaddon, now active within the Capital and intent on judging the Forerunners for their crimes. Abaddon killed four of the Forerunners in the group, subdued another, and took over the remaining three Forerunners' ancillas, attempting to lock down their armor. As a last-ditch effort, the Lifeworker Growth-Through-Trial-of-Change inserted the artifact known as the deadbolt key into Abaddon's physical core. While Trial was instantly vaporized in the process, her act seemingly restored the Domain, apparently using the Lifeworker's biological pattern as an initial "seed" for its reconstruction. However, the Forerunner survivors suspected it would still take long before the network was truly healed." - Halopedia, www.halopedia.org/Domain
For with 343 Guilty Spark being unable to access the domain, I do not have anything yet.
@@bestdogshadow383 That also doesn't explain Cortana accessing it. I think 343 changed the lore of the Domain to fit Halo 5 cause I remember before seeing it said it was wiped out after the Halo's fired.
The fights in Rvb back when monty oum was still alive(for rest his soul) are a perfect example of what Locke vs chief should've been
I lost it at: Locke picking flowers. Locke going home. Locke eating dinner. Cut to credits.
xD
I'd play that as spin-off DLC
Let's not forget chief could easily take on Osiris on his own. He managed to destroy 3 fully grown ODSTs as a kid without armour.
I feel like Chief would've gotten away if he could not take them down, he is more powerful and skilled than any other Spartan still alive, he is HYPER LETHAL for a reason.
I'm not sure about "easily" take them on, but I'm sure he would have come out on top. Chief has been the linch-pin in taking down the Covenant after all. Taking on Hordes of Aliens from Grunts to Elites, to Brutes and Hunters. Not to mention the Flood as well. Now, to me, taking on 4 "younger" Spartans against Chief is like Four 1st degree Black Belts taking on a Single 5th degree Master. The young bloods will get some hits on the Master, but unless they get a damn good strategy and execute it perfectly, there's a very slim chance they'd actually win against the Master Chief.
@@blackskyirregular9876 Thank you for being the one of the few who gets this or wants to admit it. I started having that feeling since Traviss's stories that they didn't like Chief's backstory. 5 cemented that belief they were removing the II's.
@@osedebame3522 no, he's not the most skilled Spartan ever. He's the luckiest. Cortana and Halsey admit to this. Skill has nothing to do with the Chief. Noble six, though... He is hyper lethal because of pure skill.

After the events of Halo 3, it's kind of hard to be invested in Halo 5's "policing the galaxy" plot, and that's ignoring the fact that AIs turning against their creators just kinda makes no sense in this setting

+Chris H oh
isnt he dead? hes the guy who made Haloid right?
16:08 also, Locke should be dead as soon as he aims at Blue Team as Fred-104 is known as the best CQC Spartan II and usually has various combat knifes ready at any point, Kelly-087 has a shotgun and if she doesn't feel satisfied using it then or not want to kill Locke, as the fastest Spartan II, she could just use her speed to sprint up to him and knock him out and Linda-058 could just back up through a portal to a higher point and noscope or quickscope Locke and the rest of Fireteam Osiris. Also if you check Halopedia's page on Chief (or any Spartan II as they were all born around the same year) then check dates in the Halo 5 cutscenes (October ish 2558) then do 2558 - 2511 into a calculator, Chief is nowhere near 60, he won't even be 50 in Halo Infinite if the rumours of it being set in 2560 are true (if you're interested, he's 47 in Guardians and will be 49 in Infinite by that logic. Also, fun fact, Buck is actually older than everyone in Blue Team by about a year).
Can you imagine if in Majora's Mask Navi came back and decided to rule the world by getting the mask?
12:12 this scene alone has more depth and importance than any other scene in halo 5 and it doesn’t fucking matter because Cortana is the bad guy now 🙄🤦🏽♀️
the choreography was really awful, in the books its said that a Spartan II's punches without armor make booming sounds do to the force the augmented muscles create, they break bones and are so fast that they see normal humans in slow motion, if Spartan IV's have augmentations that can be almost near equal than the II's then the fight should've moved super fast, heard a lot of loud noises, and for example master chief knows hand to hand combat since like 30 years prior to the game, maybe even more if I'm not mistaken, the flaws in his fighting style are gigantic, no reflection at all, which is supposed to be super fast for Spartans even more when they're on armor, and why would he for example after throwing Locke to the ground not punch him immediately, that's something you learn on hand to hand combat or any martial art, no wasted movement, that's why you have basic forms that allow you to move your body fast enough, but welp, maybe no one at 343 has ever done martial arts.

Halo 5 Fight Fixed:
Locke walks through the gateway as promethean platforms form bridges in front of him. Blue team are seen teleporting in, to Osiris’s surprise. Locke holds his gun up and starts to shoot.
“Blue team, Stand down!”
Commence chase scene, with shots firing from Linda and Fred against Osiris, with Tanaka being hit while running, leading to Vale helping her up, and Buck covering them. Only Locke will catch up to Kelly and John, since his cybernetic enhanced agility tries to speed up.
The entire Blue team vs Locke, as they all point their guns at him, Locke commands them to drop your weapons, but Fred remarks that he’s outgunned. This is the moment that Locke reveals he is an ONI agent, with enough power to hold them off. Fight commences, as Locke is tanking and dodging bullets with his armor. Kelly and Fred are disabled of their weapons, but fight him nonetheless. Blue team shows off their skills, as Fred is getting up close to CQC, Linda fires her gun breaking Locke’s shield, Kelly fighting Locke with tremendous speed, and Chief commanding them whilst fighting against Locke’s superior armor. One by one, Locke takes down the trio leaving Chief to fight Locke. Locke is visibly tired, and full of scrapes and dents. But Locke opens his Armor Lock weapons and throws it all at the Chief, who barely misses the three. However, it’s revealed that Locke knew Chief would dodge out of the way, hitting the members of Blue Team. The rest of Osiris finally gets to the stage, while Locke points his magnum at Chief.
“Return to Infinity, you are absent without leave. Cortana doesn’t exist. Ask your team. Do they believe you?” Blue Team hangs their heads, and quietly stare blankly at both of them. “Your team will follow you. Go now. Make the right decision.”
“Chief, kick em back to bootcamp” Fred says as both Kelly and Linda agrees. “We are with you Chief.”
Chief nods, and solos Locke and Osiris, beating them while breaking their weapons. Osiris is absolutely recked, as Chief grabs his teammate’s weapons and executes them(not really).
“I’ve got a job to do”, as Chief removes their Armor Lock.
EDIT: Chief unsheathes his knife, as the Osiris readies up. Due to their inexperience, Osiris is at a disadvantage, and Chief knows that. However the team puts up a good fight, until Locke breaks Chief’s visor.
“Enough.”
Chief walks up to the team, and then proceeds to *discombobulate* them at insane speeds, leaving large lacerations across their armors. As the fighting stops, Chief looks down at the Spartan 4s, with their armors shattered and bodies beaten.
How it would actually go is Locke tries to take in chief, gets absolutely demolished by chief. Osiris tries to 3v1 chief and chief destroys all 3 of them at the same time. There is no world in which Locke holds his own against any Spartan II, nevertheless blue team
While they definitely made Cortana a little chubbier, made her face shape rounder, made her hair shorter, made her armor thicker, gave her pretty ugly facial expressions, butchered her personality, essentially George Lucasing her to death along with all the other characters, and essentially made her character as unattactrive and unlikable as possible for no real reason...I will defend her by pointing out that a "manly physique" is a massive overstatement! And uh...yeah, that's all I got. They killed her in every manner they possibly could, and I'm sad now. :(

And actually the name “BlindEagle” is a reference to blind Patriotism.
If you have ever worked with military or even regular women that come to the gym then you can clearly see she has a very feminine muscular body.
Male muscular body is no where near that size. I’m assuming you guys are talking bout she looks like a muscular lean man which is just not true. Men’s arms have far more definition then female’s arms and are bigger. This isn’t taking into account height, weight, and fat %.
Which tells me you guys have arms like a toothpick and haven’t been to the gym in a day of your life. If you think that’s what a manly physique looks like.

I never thought that someone could get me to laugh at that one scene with Johnson's death 🤣😭
How sad is that?
Remember at the end of Reach when you fight off all those Sangheili in protection of Cortana only to be forced to watch yourself die at the hands of said Sangheili. Yeah they basically gave Noble Team the middle finger.
With Halo 4-5 they give the middle finger to the audience, the fans, Chief, Cortana, Noble Team, the Forerunners, the Covenant, Keys, Johnson, the Arbiter, Halsey, Buck, I don't know...the fucking Halo Array, Chips Dubbo, Pvt. Jenkins, The Last Grunt, the warthog, basic logic, Anton Chekhov, the flood infection form, my ears and eyes, Gravemind, the Hierarchs, Star Wars: Republic Commando...the list is endless.
Watching Noble six die was so sad to me. He put up such a huge fight, and watching him get overwhelmed and eventually killed, hit me so hard
The didact should've been the main antagonist in this game
I know that I’m late to the party but i have an idea for a different Halo 5 story.
I think there could have been a civil war within the UNSC between team osiris and team cheif, played from the perspective of both sides, in which you fight other spartans at the beginning of the game. This goes on untill the two fireteams meet up and discover that the covenant and forerunners have allied to fight against humanity. I believe that this would give a reason for the arena and warzone multiplayer game modes to take place.
Upon dicovering this, they team up to take down high ranking leaders of the alliance. Eventually the crews find out that the guardians exist and used mind control to make the covenant ally with them and do their dirty work.
The teams then seek to take out the guardians, but they find out something that changes the entire game and thr objectives/ motives for the character: Cortana is still alive (and not completely rogue like in halo 5). Cheif has an internal struggle when he finds this out about whether to save her or save humanity. He ultimately chooses to go after Cortana and this is when he turns rogue. His fireteam follows him; along the way, questioning his judgement and sanity.
Team osiris now has to defeat the guardians by themselves and the rest of the game switches between team cheif and team osiris.
Cheif goes on to find out that the Guardians used the covenant to take and hide Cortana. On the other hand, team Osiris finds out how to take down the guardians. Team Osiris has a confrontation with the guardians which leads to a boss battle in which you defeat them. And finally, to end the game cheif fights a thrilling battle against the covenant, which is run by the Arbiter. Cheif gets the upper hand on the him and takes him down, ending the game, the rivalry between the Arbitor and Master Cheif, and Cheif’s search for Cortana.
After this a short ending cinematic takes place in which cheif reunites with team osiris and they live happily ever after (insert foreshadowing for future game here).
This is the story idea I came up with in 30 minutes laying in bed. I don’t honestly know much about the halo story but I wrote this based off of my understanding of where halo 5 fits into this all and the things you’ve been saying about halo and story telling. If I got any details about anything wrong or made any inconsistencies in the story let me know.
Bad writing comparable to halo 5 lmao
Is it just me, or does almost every campaign on the latest generation of gaming consoles have bad campaigns? There are a few gems here and there, but there's nothing to the standard of the previous consoles. Games like Battlefront and Titanfall didn't even have campaigns. It's like they're slowly ruling out campaigns and making the games we buy solely multiplayer games, which we then have to pay microtransactions to actually rank up and if we actually want a campaign, which is normally my main interest we have to buy them in post game dlc, like with Destiny.
I too have started noticing it, but I blame COD for it, they were giving us crap campaigns and still made lots of money out of it.
Witcher 3?
Now Games are either with Campaing only ex: Witcher 3, dying light, assassin creed etc...And then there are those with multiplayer only: titanfall, battlefront, Call of duty (lets be fking honest here), etc...At the current there is no "in" between u pay 60€ for a campaing game and another 60€ for a multiplayer game.
Sad Gen im only 16 and i hate this grind for money thing.
The new DOOM has one of the greatest single player FPS campaigns I've ever experienced in my life. The Witcher 3 is also an amazing single player game.
+Lauren Ummm...Call of Duty stopped giving a fuck about story ever since after Modern Warfare 3 (and actual quality in general). The only reason that dead franchise is still alive is because of the money, not because they actually care about a product that they want to make polished. I just hope 343 actually puts MORE care into the story next time around. If they have to delay Halo 6 to polish it, by all means FUCKING DO IT!! I'll give them one more chance, but if Halo 6 comes out rushed with no amount of attention to detail or care for the characters, I'm absolutely done.

Castlevania Music! Dance of Pales!
I'm sorry, but...
At 2:16 with the way that the music is playing, the two female Spartans walking as they sway their hips just looks funny. Like it was perfectly timed.
Cortana as the villain could work. Gravemind's torture could possibly have long-term effects. She even describes that there is so much wrong with her when Chief found her. So the effects of Gravemind's torture along with her rampancy could cause Cortana to behave in a different way. Even turning against her creators similar to Mendicant Bias.
If it's going to be a fist fight, it should have been Osiris getting fucking destroyed by blue team.
A gun fight would have Chief telling Linda to take out their shields, Fred and Chief keep all 4 occupied, and Kelly sprints around and disables all their armor because she's fast as hell.
Then, in the next mission, you could have a short sequence where you have to escape, but you can't sprint, or thrust, and your shields won't charge.
It should've been done Monty Oum Style
May he rest in peace
Should have been a fight between them all, or at least Chief fist fight where he kicks the crap out of them, Osiris' advantage should be ONI tech and goodies, whereas Chief and Blue Team have the advantage of strength, speed, skill and experience.
The only problem is, if you have Blue team and Osiris actually go up against each other with intentions to kill, then Osiris is dead and their part in the story becomes even more meaningless, if it were possible. Though having Blue Team basically kick their asses without killing them, while Osiris try and use their weapons, showing Blue Team are that skilled, would have been nice.
+Lewis Carlin The missed opportunities are endless.
It's like 343i completely forgot how a normal player would play this game when they're writing it. Their a company that knows the backstory and ending for every character in the universe- yet Halo 5 is written like the player knows all of this too. There's no explanation anywhere. And they messed up what cutscenes represent: cutscenes should only be used to relay IMPORTANT details to the plot that players might look over if it was relayed in-game. All background details can be left as in-game dialogue for those who look for it.
That little tune at :45 takes me back to my days on the beach.
