The other frustrating thing about Halo 3's flood is that you'll randomly get elite combat forms that have an absurd amount of health for no good reason. Even multiple swings from an energy sword won't kill them.

    • @fromthegrave69

The reason for that (I believe) is that they added some shielded flood to H3. Great idea Marty 🙄

I like to think that when I attack those particular Combat Forms, I'm somehow not hitting the squishy fleshy bits but the armoured parts which is why my sword or plasma rifle isn't doing anything until I move slightly or aim a bit to the right and BAM, they disintegrate.

It's also surprisingly easy to get soft locked because you end up getting stuck on a platform without a Banshee forcing you to restart. I LOVE that mission, but the second part of the space battle on Legendary is infuriatingly difficult. I could just start the mission at the 3rd Rally Point where you finally enter the Covenant ship, but if you do that, at least in my experience it's really difficult to get through the first insertion part with the starting weapons they give you (magnum and assault rifle) and you don't get a ton of ammo. So I always choose to suffer through the space battle part so that I will still have a fully stocked needle rifle and DMR to get through the 3rd part of the mission with.

Another thing about Two Betrayals is that it's the most dynamic level in the game, and it's very hard to have the right weapons for the right fight. Co-op is nice because you get to choose 2 extra guns to carry. But you spend so much of the level trying to decide between the shotgun, pistol, sniper, rockets, or plasma pistol, knowing that whatever you choose will make your life a little more difficult against either Flood, Shielded Covenant, Unshielded Covenant, Sentinels, Ghosts, Wraiths, Banshees or whatever else you may encounter at any given time. Plus cycling between short range and long range fighting.
Of course the flipside is that it also makes it possibly the most interesting level, as you'll regularly have the wrong weapons and need to pick up needlers or plasma rifles from the ground to get through an area.

On Outskirts in Halo 2, I usually have a tough time with the vehicle section because im trying to get the rocket launcher and give it to the marine in passenger of my warthog.
But the marine AI in halo 2 is so eager to do their own thing.
When I tell the marine to exit the vehicle, they will often get in the driver seat, or run off with the rocket launcher I just gave them, while another nearby marine enters the passenger, all while we are under fire from ghost.
I have now develpoed a new methed where i quickly get out to grab the rocket launcher, get back in and drive to back to an earlier part of the level where there are no npcs that can distract us, then i get give the marine the rocket.

In Halo 3 in The Ark mission, the part where you get the two Prowlers: I will take my time getting the right Marines to get in the passenger spots with one having a rocket launcher and the other one having a sniper rifle. Regret is the hardest by far for me overall. Like you said once you get a carbine Gravemind is still hard but it is doable. Regret on the other hand feels like you just have to get lucky with the Regret fight as getting dropped in the wrong place into a bunch of Honor guard elites after boarding him is basically certain death. Thats without mentioning all the other hard parts of Regret such as the very begininng, the sniper jackals, the underwater room etc...
For CE my vote goes to Truth and Reconiliation. It has all the waves of enemies before you come up the Grav Lift, the ambush section when you first get into the ship from the grav lift, the hangar sections, and perhaps most annoyignly the section where you have to escort Keyes who is usually determined to get himself killed or worse kill himself. Two Betrayals and Keyes were defintely hard, but at least for me they didn't compare to T&R.
In terms of the other games I don't think any of the levels come particualrly close to any of the aforementioned ones, but I agree with your choices from 3, ODST, Reach and 4. I haven't played 5 at all so IDK on that one. Infinte I haven't played on Legendary so not sure on that one either.

Yeah, Halo 2 in general kind of takes the cake for a lot of reasons. It's absolutely ruthless; enemies will melt you, they're super aggressive, enemy variety is high, there are lots of bullshit scenarios and enemies, and the Regret boss fight is just outrageous. Gravemind is iconic because it just slaps you in the face RIGHT AWAY by spawning you in a big room filled with enemies with minimal cover where you have nothing but a single Needler, and enemy reinforcements will pour in from multiple places. Then the level does it again with the prison section, where it throws you right into the middle of a terrible situation without you being able to do anything about it, and you have to be fast and aggressive and accurate or you die.

Some honorable mentions for Halo 2 would be, imo, Cairo Station and Sacred Icon.
Cairo Station, while not being absolutely ball busting like some later levels, and being generous with Marines and Battle Rifle ammo, is basically a "baptism by fire" for first time Legendary playthroughs. It can be absolutely brutal, but if you can survive it, you can survive most of Halo 2.
Sacred Icon, while definitely being able to be run through with camo, and having a pretty easy opening minutes, can be fucking ridiculous for some players (me) once the Flood show up. The segment from turning off the barrier, up until you drop down to the ground level, can be an absolute slog if you play defensively. That one hallway where you see Marines fighting Flood has an insane amount of ranged Flood spawns, so it can quickly turn into a cycle of "move up a few steps -> 6 or 7 human combat forms with SMGs being spraying at you with stupid good accuracy -> retreat back to regenerate shields while Flood pursue -> take out remaining combat forms -> repeat" for like half an hour. Eventually, I just end up saying screw it and just run past most Flood spawns because they just never let up.
Besides that, I pretty much agree with the list. CE has a difficulty spike post-GS but The Maw isn't quite as bad, Halo 2 is brutal in general, 3 & ODST are actually somewhat easy, and Reach is more just an overall challenge than varying levels.

Hardest section for me was the end of Pelican Down with Hyperious and Tovarus (had to google their names lol). Can't stand on the ground without a Pimp my Ride-d chopper ramming you, but standing on a platform without cover means a scrap cannon is raining down on you. Oh man, stumbling upon this video just takes me back to the epic journey my buddy Quentin and I embarked on not too long ago! We decided to tackle the legendary campaign together, and let me tell you, it was one wild ride. Sure, technically, nothing is supposed to be too tough for the pros, but we definitely faced our fair share of challenges along the way.
One of the biggest hurdles? Well, let's just say Quentin's tendency to meet an untimely demise every now and then made things, uh, interesting. Picture this: we're deep into the fray, battling through waves of Covenant forces, and suddenly, Quentin bites the dust. And guess what? Back to the last checkpoint we go! Talk about nerve-wracking, especially considering I was the one carrying most of the weight in terms of combat prowess.
Now, if we're talking about the toughest of the tough, Halo 2 definitely takes the cake in my book. Those darn snipers... they haunted our dreams for weeks! And oh, don't even get me started on that mission aboard the massive Covenant ship. The name escapes me at the moment, but man, that level was a test of patience and skill like no other.
But you know what? Despite the occasional frustration and countless near-heart attacks, I wouldn't trade our Halo saga for anything. It was one heck of an adventure, filled with adrenaline-pumping moments and triumphant victories. And hey, if given the chance, I'd dive back into the fray with Quentin by my side in a heartbeat. Here's to more epic battles and legendary victories in the future! Cheers, fellow gamers! 🎮💥✨

Oh, let me regale you with another legendary moment from our Halo escapades, this time from the hallowed halls of Halo 3! Picture this: there we were, facing off against the formidable Scarab with not one, but two tanks at our disposal. The adrenaline was pumping as we strategized our approach, ready to unleash havoc upon our mechanical foe.
Now, here comes the twist: as I maneuvered my tank near a precarious cliff edge, fate decided to throw us a curveball. Suddenly, my tank went into a whirlwind spin, faster than a Grunt running from a Spartan! It was like something out of a Banshee joyride gone wrong. Before I knew it, my tank was soaring through the air, defying the laws of physics and map boundaries alike.
But the chaos didn't end there. Just as my tank took flight, Quentin, stationed at another vantage point with his own tank, decided it was prime time to unleash hell upon the Scarab. Little did he know, my airborne tank had other plans. In a comical twist of fate, I found myself hurtling directly in front of Quentin's line of fire, a flying target just begging to be shot down.
And shoot me down he did! With a well-aimed shot, Quentin inadvertently blasted me out of the sky, sending me plummeting to a respawn screen faster than you can say "reboot." Talk about a friendly fire mishap of epic proportions!
Needless to say, we had to restart the encounter from scratch, but you know what? Despite the setback, that moment remains etched in my memory as a testament to the sheer unpredictability and hilarity that only Halo can deliver.

The hold out section on Pillar of Autumn (Reach not CE) is always really hard for me, definitely 2nd to Long Night of Solace

Really enjoyed the video, I would choose Halo Reach's space mission due to the paper tissue metal it was created with.

I remember it took me 3 months to beat halo 2 on legendary. Those damn snipers and grave mind almost took me a month to beat

Sounds like you need to do an Infinite Legendary playthrough for our entertainment. Dance, frog.

the Pillar of Autumn (last level in Reach) deserves a mention. You fight every enemy in the game, and while you can slow play some parts, its overall pretty relentless

As someone who recently solo replayed most of ODST (360 version on disc via xbone backwards compat) on legendary. I am... surprised by you statement on coastal highway and the game as a whole.
Then again, I never got that far. I got stonewalled by the encounters between finishing Kikawani Station and starting Data-Hive.
TLDR: Two hunters, two squads of brutes, jackal snipers and a chieftain are uh.
Hard to handle when all you have is a half empty rocket launcher and a beam rifle in similar condition.

Are you talking about that one section where there's a fuel rod chieftain guarding the entrance on Mombasa Streets to Data hive? It can get pretty rough, though I vaguely remember picking a few off, heading to a nearby weapons cache, and resuming the fight until only the chieftain was left
