My blood sugar used to be at 160-190, but it went back to normal during the first 6 months too. also got into running after I lost the excess weight and I've done 3 marathons since then. Now I am clear. I've been on Keto for 3 years now and have no intention of ever eating high carbs again- the very thing which gave me acne to begin with

I have lost weight by doing 3 things: 1) dramatically cutting sugar and alcohol, 2) skipping breakfast every day and 3) go out for 40 minutes (at least) walk every day. When I eat, I still eat potato, pasta and cake occasionally. I also fixed my sleep apneas. It is not Earth shattering life changes, but, combined, they are getting me back on track to slow (~ 2kg lost per month) but steady weight loss. BP is down as well. Joel Salatin and Savory are two that come to mind in the work they have done to restore land.

    Point of clarification. The body will not utilize fats simply because they are more abundant in your diet than carbohydrates; unless you have depleted your glycogen stores, which means that you are eating 5% or less of your total calories in the form of carbohydrates. This is a critical point, and the primary reason for practicing a ketogenic diet rather than a "balanced" diet. The objective is to condition the body to utilize stored body fat as a fuel source. This depends upon the mitochondrial machinery being in place, and the body will only build that machinery when it is necessary to do so. This is why there is a fat adaptation period when adopting a ketogenic diet.

      @ivermec-tin666 Pƙed 5 lety +5

      @@MrDavidknigge Was there a question? Where did I lose you?
      The point is this: the body will handle fuel in this order, in descending order of priority; 1) alcohol, 2) glucose, 3) carbohydrates, 4) fats. Fats will be tapped as energy stores only after the first 3 categories have been fully depleted. This is why combining sugar and fat in the same meal is unhealthy. This is why keto is fundamentally different from a "balanced" diet.

    • @drekberg
      @drekberg  Pƙed 5 lety +4

      Thank you for your clarification. You are making some very good points, and I would completely agree with the fact that the body will not burn much fat in the presence of carbohydrate and insulin. However, it always burns a mixture of all fuel. You don't have to completely deplete the stores of carbohydrate before you burn fat it is just that insulin heavily/strongly pushes the balance toward fat storage rather than fat burning. I completely agree that sugar and fat together is a very bad combination. That is why it is such a joke when they do a study, by cutting carbs from 400 grams to 200 grams calling it a "low carb" diet and concluding you don't lose weight on low carb.

I would be really grateful if you could find the time to answer a question that I have doubts about. I've been doing intermittent fasting for almost a month now, mostly OMAD. I hadn't initially decided to go keto but I've been listening to my body and choosing foods I crave. In the last week or so, I noticed I'm craving less and less carbs. Today i decided to more or less calculate the net grams of carbs I've been consuming daily and they are in the range of 12-20 grams per day or around 2-5% of the total calorie intake for the day (greens, avocado, green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, other veggies). I'm happy with my OMAD and the food I'm eating but just today I read that keto is not suitable for people with history of kidney stones which I had twice in the past and to be honest I got scared a bit. I would be really grateful if you could comment on that. Thanking you in advance and all the best!

    I'm a 63 year old woman, and in 7 days I'll be 64. I'm 5 feet 4 inches tall, and weighed 115 pounds before my diet. I've been type 2 diabetic for the past 18 years, 16 of which I was on Glucophage pills. Only 6 months ago I was taking 2000 mg Glucophage daily.
    I put myself on a low-fat low-carb diet and lost 17 pounds; I was already very slender, and had no weight to lose; now am very skinny with 98 pounds.
    I'm consuming many types of nuts, seeds, and lots of steamed vegetables. Every day I drink smoothies that were made with few fruits, lots of greens and vegetables. I eat chicken, eggs, lamb, and most seafood, and I drink lots of water.
    I'm very happy because I was able to stopped the Glucophage pills that I had been taking for the past 16 years, but I need to put on a little weight.

    Dear doctor thank you for your expertise and calming delivery of facts. I am 68 years old and I've had hypothyroidism for 50 years over the last 10 years I develop multiple food allergies, leaky gut and sibo. I have been working with a nutritional therapist and that had helped me quite a bit but it wasn't until I started the keto diet four months ago that I'm down 20 lbs and my leaky gut and sibo have literally healed to the point where I can now eat eggs, milk and other foods that I was allergic to because of leaky gut. I'm probably not going to start in on the dairy or the grains because I want to stay healthy but I am excited about being able to eat an egg ! hallelujah thank you Doctor God bless you

      If the skin is dry that is the one time polyunsaturated fats are a good idea such as fish oil with some good essential fatty acids. For fuel stick with the politically incorrect saturated fat.

    I’ve been on ketogenic diet for almost 3 months and have lost a little over 20 pounds. I like that it’s low carb and sugar and that it’s healthier. However, my only complain about it is that there’s a very limited allowed fruits and veggies to eat. I love fruits I grew up with that has high in sugar like mangoes and pineapple. Once I reach my goal weight, I would like to go on a healthier diet with no food restriction. I would stay on low carb and sugar as possible and have portion control. I hope this would work for me. Thank you for all your informative videos. I learn a lot from you🙂

    Hey Dr Berg. Thanks to your keto/OMAD videos, I've lost over 50 lbs and shredded after ten months (at 62). I actually gained 0.2% muscle in the process. Now everyone is asking, "What are you doing to look so great?". I tell them and they freak out...lol Old ways die hard.

    I started keto 20 years ago this month. My only "bad" number is my BP, which seems to be stress and a busy mind ("neurogenic"), not due to insulin, etc. All my other numbers are in the ideal range. And I feel great and don't get infections. I started intermittent fasting 18 months ago, and that's given much improvement.

.. I enjoy all of you doctors for the individual style each of you brings to these messages. Thanks Dr. Ekberg for this video. You touched on some nuanced points.

    Hey Dr. Ekberg! Just found you doing my research on Keto and subbed immediately! Along with Dr. Berg and Thomas DeLauer, high quality content and very valuable information! Thank you for that!
    I have decided to turn on Keto just out of curiosity, IÂŽm 25 and IÂŽve been going to the gym for almost a decade. IÂŽm really curious about how I will feel using fats as fuel instead of carbs, what would my energy levels be compared to being on carbs and especially if IÂŽm gonna be able to continue gaining muscles and stay on my hard core gym workouts and keep lower fat percentage!
    ItÂŽs my 4th since I cut of carbs and right on my second day I went with 17 hours fast, first 2 days were tough, but now I feel pretty good, is that even possible for the body to adapt so quickly?

      I think you have found the best people to help with Keto so far. there is another gal that I watch and she is really big into the different types of fasting and how you can change various things in your body through different types of fasts. Her name is Dr. Mindy Pelz, she is very informative and has the same philosophy is Dr. Ekberg , in that she wants people to be able to study and learn for themselves so you can be informed and active in your own health.

    These videos harp on losing weight. After about 6 months of Keto, at 67, I am working hard to maintain my weight at my college level. I am never hungry and could easily go 24 hours without eating. I have stopped doing that level of fasting because I can’t lose any more weight.

      Do you watch Dr. Ken Berry’s videos? He has one in which he says that keto/carnivore diets are normative, meaning you lose weight on it if you need to. If you need to gain, you will. If you are at a healthy weight, the weight loss stops. (I haven’t been on it long enough to know!)
