Cohh in the first ten seconds be like "this will hopefully be pretty quick". *Looks at 33 minute video time* - Yeah, that's our cohh.
True :)
I was just about to make this comment and then you were - floating at the top.
30 minutes might still be quick comparitively
Yeah, he said those words and then I noticed the 30min runtime. Alright, I'll bite. 😂
Yes, it's 34 min long, that's true. But the way he describes and explains things, if you don't know them already, makes time fly and you don't notice it. And IMO, it's time well spent. - I really like Cohn's style, and I'm really glad that I've found his channel. :)
Here are some tips I found:
Holding Ctrl while clicking parts will group them together so you can drag them together.
Also holding Shift and then clicking and holding will let you select everything your mouse mouses over.
Also if your mass is red it doesn't necessarily mean your ship is too heavy. It just means it is now heavier than it previously was before editing.
needs more landing gears
Also just something to point out. If you do "Flight Check" and it tells you that some pieces are not connected, there is an easy way to find the "problem children".
For PC users double click on a piece. This will highlight everything that is connected or interconnected with that piece and drag it to the left or right. Now you will absolutely be able to see what your problem pieces are because they get left behind when you drag the ship in a particular direction.
You don’t have to board your ship when you’re encumbered. As long as you’re within 250 meters you can transfer to the cargo hold from your inventory.
Thanks 🙏
Guess who is putting their landing in the back lol
Game changer lol. I had no idea
Wait, wut!? How is this the first i'm ever hearing of this!? I honestly thought we HAD to Board the Ship then manually go to the Cockpit for that! How do ya do it!? :O
@@JoshuaGanoTyraxLightning open the ships inventory (bottom left of menu) then select the cargo hold with F key on pc, unsure what the console button is.
I love it when he does these short form guides! Jokes aside tho, I would seriously just enjoy watching someone build ships just for the sake of it. Love the shipbuilding in the game!
This is the only video ive found so far that actually explains how to build a ship and not just an overview of it. Thank you
At 3:12 i amost shed tears of joy, i don't know if i missed the tutorial or what, but i didn't figured out how to select all parts of the ship, thanks Cohh
It's just realy badly explained....and the uiis just a mess on pc 😅
its the KB&M control scheme. If you're using a controller, the UI tips down the bottom tell you which button selects all. Infact the entire interface is significantly easier to use with a controller.
Never did I think that the shipbuilding guide be longer than the outposts!
This game has so much detail, and I love it! Still haven't started my first playthrough as of this comment, but I already have so many ship ideas! Knowing me, I am going to spend far too much time creating my ideal fleet.
i have some minor gripes but overall i think it's a great game. some things i have a problem with;
you cant strip parts off of one ship and put it on another ship.
you cant command your companions anymore
persuasion is just like in fallout 3-4 even though everyone hated it. so very stupid.
quite a few quality of life improvements need to be made imo. descriptions on ship parts, frame upgrades for guns, (it was in fallout 4, why has this been removed???) some other things i cant think of rn.
@@Tacdelio yea persuasion be like:
“You don’t have to do this”
“I never thought of it that way”
“This will only end in your death”
“I’d rather die than give you the satisfaction!”
“You don’t have to do this”
“I never thought of it that way”
*Persuasion check passed*
There's not much you can do with outposts, you just plonk down the extractors/transfer things and that's it. They put all their creative efforts into shipbuilding parts and mostly ignored outpost building parts. Hopefully they flesh that out later on with more modular pieces (like ships) instead of 100% prefab buildings.
These videos have been extremely helpful. wished the game explained it better rather than barret saying "youll get the hang of this"
He not wrong

That is probably the most helpful video I’ve seen on ship building. The small tips that were sprinkled throughout the video are so so helpful. Thank you so much man 👍🏽
One note: the red pips in the power section aren't showing slots that your reactor can't fill, that's just the comparison to your ship's current build. For example, you only have 8 power in weapon 1 at that point with the atlatl missiles, but there are four red pips, that's because before you started changing parts your original ship had 12 power in the weapon 1 slot. The game is just showing you "This is how much less power this part has available than your current build."
Holy crap this game is sooo much deeper then I even imagined. I'm still sooo early game but can't wait to get to this part. I'm obsessed. Thanks Cohh for all you do and keeping us entertained!
It's deep af
With all the guides I've seen this is the most easy to understand thank you
There is actually a class above C called M class but that is inaccessible without mods though it is in the game. The M class parts mostly work are usually used on bigger NPC ships, they have their own stats, price and everything so Bethesda may be planning something with them in the future.
My dude your tutorial videos have been the best I've found for this game, both in depth/info value and in clear communication of concepts. Well done.
A hell of a better guide than all these other wannabes; who keep chucking at me words like "need" and "must have." The game has been out for a month, we don't need anymore. That said, my adhd goes nuts with builder games and I don't know where to start. You were able to teach me, rather than just "show" me. Very well done, I shall look for more of your Starfield videos should the need for research purposes or random meta questions arise :)
Thank you Cohh. An actual explanation is helpful. Lotta shit doesn't work very intuitively in starfield, the guides help a ton.
Perfect timing on this video Cohh as I had zero clue how to build ships. Thanks as always!
Thank you Cohh, you saved me with those cockpit route tips, i was unable to figure it out why its not connected properly when its... connected. But i did not realized that there are DIFFERENT connections.
This is what I was looking for, I appreciate how you go through and explain everything for ship building, made tons of sense! Thank you!
14:55 Ctrl+G to duplicate, that's the one tip I've been looking for that is never ever mentioned by anyone or the game for that matter. Thank you!
THANK YOU! This is the best breakdown ive seen yet. This feature was what I was looking forward to the most and i found it intimidating as hell so thank you!
Watched a handful of "guides" on ship building and this was definitely the best one.
Thanks!
even that cat can build a ship now, he paid so much attention, what a cute cat
Thanks! This is the best ship build guide I have found!
Barely started the vid, you answered all my questions. I'll stay to finish the vid, ty.
Just found your channel. I haven't bought Starfield yet, but when I do, I do plan to get very detailed with building ships. I found this video very helpful! Thank you, sir!
Definitely best guide I've seen so far
Great video, 10/10. You are an expert and clear and concise communication and I appreciate that
Thank you so much! I'll make good use of this over the weekend.
Bro. This helped so much. Thank you! Btw been watching you since ESO, but work the 9-5, straight lurker status. You and you're community are the best out there. Keep it up buddy.
What a great vid. I had just jumped in and made a few ships, and learned much of this by trial and error (which sometimes sucked!). But didn't know stuff like the keystrokes of r/g and crtl/g. Much appreciated!
I spent an hour at like 12AM trying to design a ship and then realized I had a flight check and all these errors and then was like oh this thing doesn't work at all! LOL Great video, very helpful! Tons of great tips :)
This was EXTREMELY helpful. Thank you
Thank you for this. You made ship building seem easy. Broken down like a "ship building for dummies" book. You got yourself a new sub.
This is the absolute best video when it comes to ship building. Tank you very much. Subscribed 😎😎
Fantastic man! i have a grip on this now. Explained it clear 👌
it lacks a porthole, it is also possible to put one underneath, which is very pleasant
Thank you for the tip on gow to correctly align the cockpit and landing bay!! It was doung my head in until now. Subbed!✌️
Thankyou man, this was extremely helpful I learned a lot. I like how they took a chance and made ship building more free with more designs. Yes it’s hard to learn how to build, but it’s worth it once you understand it.
The information was great, and the entertainment watching your car was also great😂
I havent even attempted building a ship yet because I dont have the skill, but now I feel ready to pick it up. Nice video.
I love how interested his cat is. Yet another interesting and helpful video too😊
Extremely informative, thank you.
This was really helpful! I wish I could like video's more than once!
Dude this helped me so much, first video ive seen and im here to stay. Subbed. Good stuff bro. Ty
For a "quick" video that went from me not wanting to play to spending time in that builder changing the base ship as I'm still doing side missions for the vanguard ahah. Thanks for this!!
Thank you so much. Great job!
That was really helpful. Thank you.
thank you for explaining ship building i was stuck on plane movement until i watched your video, So THANK YOU!!
Great video man, thank you. 🍻
Thank you SOO much. You have helped me a lot. Great video and very cute cat you have there.
Thanks for the video, it taught me a lot.
Cohh this was a Great video... helped a lot... thank you very much and continue the great work 😁👍
Great tutorial, thanks! love the cat 😊
Instant subscriber. This is how I needed to be taught in school. I wasn't. Look forward to new vids. Cheers, bruv
18:36 this tip let me know i can filter ship components based on the socket i've got selected 😊 Thanks Cohh!
Your ship looks so badass!
So glad I found this one. I didn't care as much about the most powerful build. I just wanted to successfully build a ship. Thank you.
Great video!
Running whilst encumbered won't kill you. It will take your health down really low, and then stay there, So you use the bed on your ship to heal. It's handy if you're selling stuff off the floor or in a safe part of a city.
You da man! Thank you for the great info. 👍
Helpful. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this
Thanks Cohh!
As always amazing.
Excellent video🤝
Perfect video thanks
There is a big diffrence between Beam (continous) and Pulse/Missle weapons: the later ones can fire multiple times and then go into reload, the beam type need reload after every shot. So if you use 1 beam and 2 pulse type weapons you get more out of your reactor power, specially important if you have less than 24 reactor. Bigger reactor might be usefull to have 2 beam and 1 pulsing weapon. But bigger reactor is also a lot heavier.
Very helpful video 😃
I notice the easiest way to attach modules is not to drag them. But press g on the area you want to attach and it will give you a list of all the items that are compatible with that spot so you aren’t wasting time scrolling around and not wasting time frustratingly trying to drag things into place.
I don't even own Starfield and I watched the whole thing! This is the most fun part for me
Same Here 😅
I really want to get into starship building, mostly so i can make some super wacky star wars esque kinda ships- this guide was super helpful as I’ve mostly just been winging it
Super interesting. I'd love to see one where you go into the crew side of things.
Plus thank you a lot, I think your guide will be most useful!
My man! lol. You're awesome Cohh!
Cohh is a great teacher
Great video
Thank you SO much for this guide!
It has really helped me with things that I was struggling with. For example, I couldn't for the life of me find out how to move things up or down, and I think the F key is close to the only one I hadn't tried. lol
But there's still one thing I don't quite get. You mention using the C key in order to flip things to face different directions. I have tried to do this so many times, I've lost count, and I've had to give up every time. I've spent at least ten hours trying to get this to work, but I just can't do it.
Maybe I've just been unlucky and tried to do it with modules that you can't flip? Maybe that's all it is.
I had no idea that you get more options in a ship builder that you set up yourself at your outpost than you do everywhere else.
I'll try and add a ship builder to my outpost. That's a great tip! :)
Great video.
thats a really cool ship cohh, im stealing the desing
Good upload 👍
Great video. New follower!
I'm loving your guides and other content on Starfield, I was wondering if you could make a video similar to your PF:K/PoE2/DOS2 video you made to compare Starfield to other popular space exploration games like No Mans Sky and Elite Dangerous in terms of playstyle, feel, combat, etc.
Two other tips/glitches in shipbuilding that may be useful:
1. If an item is able to be flipped, then you can put it on any attachable point even if it's red. All you have to do is grab whatever item it is, attach it to said point, then flip it a few times and hit esc. This is great for hiding items in other items in order to have a more sleek looking ship.
2. I haven't done this myself, but I've seen videos of people doing this. Supposedly you can get items even if you don't have the perk for them (they still have to match your reactor class though.) For example, say a cargo piece requires ship design rank 2 and you don't have that. If you talk to the ship engineer and immediately go into ship building and quickly add a lower level cargo item, then it should sort of glitch out. You can then use W and S to scroll through the other cargo items to find the rank 2 item and should be able to use it when placed.
Hopefully this helps some of you other there that are struggling with the kinda wonky shipbuilding.
I am buying a whole new rig to play this game properly lol, so that means saving up from now until mid January when I will get it.
Oh man it's gonna be worth it. I love the ship building stuff! When they get the UI right, that will be the game seller!
sick ship
Cheers bro
Ty sir 🤗
Brilliant.
The planes! Oh my god! Last night I was tryna build and it was doing my head in that they wouldn't connect for being "too low" or "too high". Oh I'm jumping right back in knowing this.
What i like to do when designing a ship is put every structural piece available off to one side in their manufacturer groups. It really helps visualize how things are going to fit together, basically it looks like a model kit set laid out on a table.
Keep in mind not all parts are available immediately, some wont show up till you're higher level. Not just the better versions, but some entire designs. So visit shipyards regularly.
Also dont worry about mobility. Even with 100 mobility and the maneuverability perks you're still not going to be nimbly dodging enemy fire. so go chonky.
always enjoy a good top docker
A lot of the little tips here are helpful. I still can't build anything due to my piloting level, so I have to work on thar.
Thanks so much for the overview! I feel like the game just completely leaves you in the dark with how to build. One thing that drives me nuts is the habs - while toggling hab variations, it doesn't tell you specifically what it includes and there's no way to see the interior until you make all the changes, have to exit the builder, board your ship, and look around. This is a very tedious process that I wish they allowed you to preview.
Can you pls make a step by step Tutorial for your Ship? It looks amazing!
Cat be like, "who is he talking to?"
Now seriously, very helpful. Some things I had already figured out just by fumbling, but some were great useful "aha"s for me.
I managed to mod the heck out of the Kepler R ship to make it legendary (nearly 10k cargo capacity), all workbenches, weapons max'd out (both 3k range, one is auto turret - I like to aim the other) and nearly max'd missiles, 1.8k shields, largest He3 tanks. The ship is a beast, nothing can touch it.
Can you make a video explaining how the connected habs etc chooses the door location? Is it possible to manipulate this so we can choose ourselves how rmthe Doors will be placed?
I saw you had 4 guns in W1 and I was like how?! I had no idea that you could add up to the max pips under the weapon slot. The game just always replaced my 2 W1 weapons that Frontier starts with and I was like well I guess W1 just gets 2 slots and the rest get 1... this video was very helpful
Quick question. So to get the modules needed that are not available at your outpost landing pad , for instance the cockpit that is only available at certain location. Do you have to use an available cockpit from your outpost landing pad inventory then fly to the location to install the preferred cockpit as in your example?
