      NICHOLAS NANAS yes but if it was against the law it would make it harder for people to get access to this stuff, for instance not having a drivers license will make it nearly impossible to buy a car or truck. If Americans had gun licenses and couldn't buy a gun without it, it certainly make it harder to get access to guns, thus people who have a mental breakdown or moments of extreme emotion wouldn't be able to get a gun so easily and shoot up something.

      @phaedradg Před 3 lety +7

      @Lizzie Allen There are so many other countries where violent crimes as you describe are also committed, but with far less guns than the US. The result of that is far less gun-related deaths, no school shootings, no mass shootings, etc. Guns only make existing problems worse, as many statistics and studies show.
      But I'm afraid the US has gone way too far to turn back now: if you neighbors have 10 guns, who is willing to give up theirs?
      I've never owned a gun, and never will, and I never felt unsafe. And you know why? Because nobody that I know owns a gun. And we don't need them. It is an illusion to think that you need guns to be safe, and that illusion caused a massive proliferation of unnecessary weaponry, up to the level of insane.
      The easier you make it to buy and own a gun, the more guns there will be around you, and the more you'll get convinced that you need to buy one too because you don't feel safe anymore.

      Isn't a gun license in that case a form of gun control using that logic?

    • @nighthasfallen456
      @nighthasfallen456 Před 3 lety +22

      @@vibranium-riprich314 The way that America applies it...no. In most states in the US, you don't actually need a license to purchase a firearm (in Idaho they don't ask for one). Typically all you need is your driver's license to fill out an application form. Some states you need a permit, others it's only for handguns. It all depends in which state you're in. The Federal Firearms License is for businesses, giving them the right to buy and sell firearms rather than for people.
      Now compare this to the U.K.'s method, which very much is a form of gun control: if you want to apply to get a gun, you need to make sure you get the right form (a shotgun license and a firearms license are two different things here), you have to specifically state what gun and ammo you want, you need to state where you're storing the gun and ammo to ensure it's being done safely, you actually need to state WHY you're purchasing a gun (you are not allowed to do it on a whim), you need to include passport photos of yourself, give two people to act as references AND provide your GP's contact details so they can check you're of sound mind. Then the police carry out criminal background checks on you and with these details can ensure that you won't be a danger to yourself or others. Then you have to renew that license every 5 years, where they do psychological and criminal background checks with each renewal.
      Sorry for the essay, but you need details to properly compare them.

      "There are 18,332 McDonald's in North America as of February 2021"

Even with extensive background checks, a person can turn out to be a terrorist or even suicidal. Did u know that the most deaths by guns are from suicide victims? Maybe we should work on building a stronger society based on trust and support rather than focus on a gun. At the end of the day a gun is a weapon just like a knife. You need to take the statistics of the scenario into account, such as how many people are panicking and running for their lives? If you are just going to stand in place and look around blindly for whoever is raining shells on you, you're just making yourself an easier target for the killer. I don't mean to insult America or Americans, but sometimes, they tend to be blinded by freedom and how they should always be in control of what happens for their well-being. It was thin and delicate so if boiling water was poured directly onto it it might shatter, so the colder milk protected the China. These days we have better materials and it's no longer a problem and those that put milk first are considered savages.

A few weeks ago my school had a school shooting threat, and I was TERRIFIED that my boyfriend or my friends were going to get hurt and I wouldn't be able to do anything to help them, or keep them safe. So thank you SO MUCH for bringing light to these problems! Maybe if enough people like you start taking about this, the government here will finally start doing something to keep us safe.

      Then the state has the monopoly on violence. Evil demented people would still kill and maim innocents, but now there are no equalizers to let a young women defend herself from a larger man. In the US guns are used overwhelmingly more in self defense than in crime. Self preservation is a human right and a gun is the most reasonable tool to ensure that. The right to bear arms is a human right the world over and the first thing a tyrant abolishes before taking power.

    As Las Veagan, I sincerely thank you for making me laugh about the most horrific thing to happen to my city in my lifetime. The one year anniversary is quickly approaching and the effects are still felt. That night was the most horrible night of my life and I wasn't even there. I was safe at home watching TV. But, I have family who work for the police department and my fear was for them and friends who could have been (and some were) at the event, who work at the surrounding hotels and at Mandalay it's self. So really, thank you for injecting humor in to a terrible topic. Laughter is truly one of the best remedies. #VegasStrong
