    The first ever snow day I ever got was when I was working in Dublin and it snowed. It also caused the great bread shortage of 2018. People were buying 5 or 6 loaves of bread at a time. After my return to the frozen circle of hell from which I'd came, temperatures plummeted. Last February it was dark 16 hours a day, and we got 4 days out of the month where the temperature rose above -30. We were still expected to go to work even if the heat in the car didn't work because it was too fucking cold causing you to pull over and scrape the inside of your windscreen. In my two years in Dublin, I didn't once complain about the weather. I'd tell people that if it didn't feel like someone was shoving a hot poker into your sinuses causing them to feel like they were burning which in addition to the wind made your eyes water which in turn would make your eyelashes freeze together, it wasn't that cold. Every winter, the collective population of 6 million people in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba wonder why the hell they live here. I've decided this year not to. I'm going to the UK... There's no way to explain to anyone what -54 feels like.

    I am always amazed the fuss especially in the South East of England. You would think 5 cm of snow was a once in a hundred years event. People drive to work in a rear drive sports type car on summer tyres complaining that they cannot to get to work in usual time. In Europe you have to change to winter snow tyres I believe for set months of the year. We lack common sense, I have to say having lived in North Wales compared to Kent people carry on, prepare and are happy to adjust there plans slightly so it's a much more pleasant atmosphere. Yes, we could do with more snow ploughs etc but is the cost all worth it for a few days year when people could just walk or stay home.

    • @KateeAngel
      @KateeAngel Před 4 lety +1

      Huh 5 cm.... I bet here near SPb we had at least 50 cm of snow last winter in some places (mostly in the woods, where it is colder)

      I walk through snow and get a bus which I would imagine gets fitted with snow tyres when they are required. Haven't needed to get a bus in months though, and when I do again, where I'll be going I know I can walk to. It's only college, 7 miles away (I say I can walk, because I know my brother can, while drunk (drinking with his friends) in the middle of the night. If he can do that, I can do so sober in the day).

    • @daisugoi
      @daisugoi Před 4 lety +12

      I think the reason British people complain about snow or low temperatures is because we don't have sufficient resources or money to deal with it. Most of our public transport goes to shit and can't run, and the last time it snowed I got off a bus only to see it go up a hill for the next stop and slip back down and crash after getting to the top. It's pure chaos and quite dangerous, even when driving to work (cars/roads usually aren't built/modified for dealing with it either, quite a few crashes, many near collisions even when driving slowly). Our snow is this nasty slushie/sludgie shit that isn't easy to grip as well, it's horrible to navigate. In other words, the government believes that winter or snow related chaos damages is better than hiring adequate machinery for the roads because our weather is infrequent.
      (no one asked but it's still interesting to know)
