    In the field of psychology, the Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people mistakenly assess their cognitive ability as greater than it is. It is related to the cognitive bias of illusory superiority and comes from the inability of people to recognize their lack of ability. Without the self-awareness of metacognition, people cannot objectively evaluate their competence or incompetence.

    This video reminds me of a piece of advice my father gave me when I got my first job.
    He told me that because I was so inexperienced, that I didn't even know what I didn't know. He told me to keep my mouth shut, except to ask questions about the things that were confusing me. He also told me to periodically ask my boss what were the things that I needed to improve on, and then figure out how to improve my performance in those areas.
    He assured me that if I did that long enough that I would eventually get to the point where I at least knew what I didn't know. He told me to be happy when I got to that point, because by then all I needed to do was to research the things that I didn't yet know, so I could finally understand them.
    That was great advice and I still use it to this day. I miss you dad, you passed away when I was still a teenager but you taught me enough about being a man before you passed that I was able to live a life you'd be proud of. It's 2021, I'm 41 years old, and I still miss you every single day!

It hurts still to this day that I lost him, especially while I was still in High School, but he made sure his son would be able to succeed without him. He taught me how to be a man, it was up to me to do it. Every time I fell short, it wasn't because he didn't prepare me, it was because I didn't follow his examples. Even when he was stuck in that wheelchair, and in that hospital bed, he was still the strongest man that I've ever seen.
      Christ, I'm in tears writing this... I just hope my son ends up having a fraction of the respect for me that I have for my father. If he does, then I know I'll have done a good job raising him.

      @mek86 Před 2 lety +4

      @Logic No one said the uneducated person has a low IQ. Just because a person has made a chose not to be educated , does not make them an idiot.
      They do not analyze every facet, or make an attempt to acknowledge the facts presented to them due to the person not being 'educated' in the matter. This is an ego problem. ' I am better than you because I am educated' No, you are educated, but this does not mean you know everything and this down not mean no one else knows as much as you even if they are 'uneducated'
      When referring to educated and uneducated, it refers to the fact someone has gone through the education system.
      Being intelligent , does not mean you know everything. To admit you don't know and keep an open mind is the first step to learning. Saying you know everything is a closed mind and will learn nothing new.

See shit other people don't, plan things out unlike them but take less action than "stupid" people due to planning shit out. Oh, and to answer your question, yes, informed people on the right are only informed because they question every one and every thing. It's quite normal on this side of the aisle to review research and methods. Your side blindly believes everything you're told by the people on TV and declare anyone who questions the Narrative "anti-Science," because that's what thinking people do, they name-call and label "others"

    • @colatrl.damg3167
      @colatrl.damg3167 Před 2 lety

      @Logic actually CC is very easy to disprove with actual science. The only trouble is getting the normies to inform themselves from sources other than govt approved/govt controlled sources. Here's some science for you:
      Carbon Dioxide is not a "greanhouse" gas, in fact there are diminishing returns to the point that increases CO2 level has no effect on temperature. Climate "models" assume CO2 has a multiplying effect (not true) to create scary charts. That's why all predictions from 30 years ago are laughably false.
      CO2 rises AFTER temperature increases, this is because cold water can hold CO2 better than warm water, so when temp rises, CO2 is released from the oceans into the atmosphere. So cause and effect are 100% backwards. It is rising temps that cause the rising CO2. This trend is true over thousands of years and known to all climate scientists, ignored when they try to scare normies.
      Anyway, the atmosphere is only 0.4% CO2 - in 1900 it was 0.39%. Not something to worry about.
      USA warmest decade actual temp measured, 1930s. Coolest decade 70s. North ice cap is biggest ever and South Pole is recording the lowest temperatures ever recorded, probably due to solar minimum.
      This is science, and if you'd read it and compared it to the nonsense you're being spoon fed day after day, you'd understand it. Don't assume people who disagree know less than you. That's what morons do, Dunning-Kruger effect, if you will.

      @Logic this is an appeal to authority - not an argument. you're assuming the people drilling The Sky Is Falling into your head are "highly educated people" - when in fact, the source of this info are global elites who want to control you. They've decided to scare you into thinking the world is ending, if only you give them more money and more power. Some of these white coats are nothing more than hired guns doing what they're told for $$$$. But you're so informed you realize they are just in it for the Science! …almost holy. OMG, don't even get me started with firearm handling.
    I volunteer as a range safety officer (entire shooting organization and range staff are volunteer to keep range fees and membership dirt cheap), and I could tell you some stories.
    We may be volunteers, but we do go through a certification process which includes safe handling of firearms, first aid training specializing in treating gunshot wounds and rattlesnake bites (we have rattlesnakes that wander onto the range from time to time), range policy, and a bunch of other stuff before you can become a RSO. I've seen RSOs do some stupid shit too, like forgetting to deploy the orange cones when going down range to repaint the steel targets (which start at 200 yards, and go out to 450 yards in 50 yard increments). They didn't even turn on the range cold lights which signify no handling of guns and/or ammo. They're lucky nobody started shooting at the closer targets, as those ricochets can bounce and tumble really far with a ton of energy still behind them.
    I'm certainly no expert, but I know enough to be careful, and enough to spot when people are doing something dangerous to the rest of the firing line. Had a guy argue with us once because he claimed he wasn't flagging people, but he was clearly flagging people. We had to escort him off the range and threaten to get the police involved if he didn't leave. We won't tolerate improper handling of firearms. It's one thing if someone makes a mistake, we point it out, and they immediately correct it, but it's another when they argue. That dog won't hunt.

His reasoning: The seat belt could prevent his escape from a burning and/or about-to-explode vehicle. (Also, subtle and oblique humor completely eluded him. Example: At one of our stand-up meetings, one in our group did a cute little victory dance (to celebrate a milestone). Everyone reacted as you'd expect; laughs and giggles. Then I said, "There's also a failure dance, you know... but, by pure coincidence, it just happens to look exactly like a bunch of people running down the street... crying and screaming." What matters is whether one is genuinely careful in making up one's mind about what is true, and whether one continues to have an open mind to reassess when presented with contrary evidence. Essentially its the same basic thing, worded differently. Much in line with "The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt"
      Its a very similar premise that fits with the Dunning-Krueger.
      Languages tend to not translate directly, and what appears to have a direct meaning often has a colloquial meaning as well. Such as a Laotian insult that states "You have difficulty finding clothes" and the meaning is you are fat. I know how to say it, but no way in hell can I spell it. Finnish insults are hilariously crass, they would make Aussies recoil in amazement, and sjws from the states would get the vapors... which has no meaning in other languages.
      I really need to learn more German and Russian, they are fun languages.

      Fun fact: in backcountry wilderness hiking during the winter when there's snow, urine and feces are generally separated into totally different latrine/disposal places, and it's very common for hikers to separate those functions entirely.

    I’ve lived in the same house for 40 years, and the climate in my backyard hasn’t changed. No species have actually disappeared. We have the same wild plants (you might call them weeds); Purslane, Salsify, Goatheads, Silverleaf Nightshade, Black Nightshade, Kochia, Lamb’s Quarters, Amaranth, Wild Mustard, Native Clump grasses, and Dandelions. In my front yard, Prickly Pear Cactus volunteers (seeded by birds) and Spiny Goldenweed.Only one species of reptile-Aspidoscelis neomexicanus. Harvester Ants, “Sugar” Ants, two species of Grasshoppers, Chinese Praying Mantis (Invasive but welcome)Lady Bugs, Leaf Hoppers, Darkling and Dermestid Beetles, Cottonwood Borer Beetles, Black Crickets, Paper Wasps, Yellow Jacket Wasps, Hawk Moths, Noctuid Moths, the occasional Monarch, Tiger Swallowtail and Cabbage Butterflies, the Oriental Cockroach (invasive, unwelcome) and a Mediterranean Cockroach (invasive, unwelcome)-and Sowbugs, not insects, but… . For Spiders, we have two species of Wolf Spiders, two species of Jumping Spiders, Western Black Widows, 2 species of Crab Spiders, Yellow Sac Spiders (invasive, unwelcome), Southern House Spiders,Psilochirus, Herpyllus, Dysdera, Oecobius, Lithyphantes and Clubiona. For birds, we have Flickers, Robins, Sparrows, House Finches, Road Runners, Cooper’s Hawks, Screech Owls, Barn Owls, Mourning Doves-being pressured out of the area by Eurasian Collared Doves (invasive, but good eating) and Grackles (invasive) who ran out the equally invasive Starlings. Only a few mammals-I live in a fairly large city: Squirrels (don’t know the variety), Field Mice, Skunks and Raccoons.
    It’s true that we’re going through a period of several years of drought, but fossil trees from the area have growth rings that indicate that we’ve had droughts lasting for more than a century. Some Summers are hotter than others, some Winters colder than others, some entire years wetter/dryer than others. In the end, though, it’s the same mile-high Rocky Mountain scrub desert it’s always been. The sky ain’t falling.
    Remember, when you drive your SUV and your cows are farting, you’re RISKING THE LIVES OF 8 BILLION PEOPLE who will almost certainly die from climate change, and so the punishment for your crime is you have to PAY A TAX. If you build hand grenades in your garage without proper licenses, you risk the lives of your family, and maybe the family next door to your garage-RISKING THE LIVES OF PERHAPS 10 PEOPLE in all, the punishment is 20 YEARS IN A FEDERAL PRISON. Hmmmm…
    A great book by actual scientists that don’t live on govt grant money stolen from the paychecks of taxpayers is “Hot Talk, Cold Science” by S. Fred Singer, David R. Legates and Anthony R. Lupo. They state that none of the “harm” you’re being told is happening is actually happening to the Earth or any of it’s inhabitants. There is NO empirical evidence that any of the claims of the dangers of “Greenhouse Gases” exists, nor have any of these claims ever been proven, nor is there any evidence to support the claims. Instead of evidence,”CLIMATE CHANGE” COMPUTER MODELS HAVE BEEN CREATED that allegedly prove their wild claims. A COMPUTER MODEL IS A COMPUTER PROGRAM THAT DOES WHAT IT WAS CREATED TO DO. Excel can total a column of numbers because that’s what it was created to do: crunch numbers, and Climate models were created to increase the temperatures automatically, once entered into the system from the raw data received from satellites that collect the actual temperatures on the ground all over the world, all day, all night. Remember, when your smiling, lying elected officials tell you about a dangerous situation that can only be solved by you paying higher taxes, the problem is that your lying elected officials want more of your money, and want to convince you that it’s somehow your own fault.
    One last fun fact: Cows DON’T fart…

    It's somewhat disconcerting to look back and see so much Dunning-Kruger in my own life, especially when I realize how much I built my life around my own incompetence.
    I've always been interested in writing and other creative endeavors. I always thought I'd be a professional author when I was a kid. I spent a lot of my early adulthood thinking I would create video games. I've spent so much time an energy into these these things, thinking I was great, but without actually looking for ways to improve myself or seeking proper critique. I just thought I was great.
    Maybe it was just ego. Maybe I even was still "better than average" in some certain regards (since no skill can truly be summed up in single value,) but I still look back and see so much time and energy that I wasted just because I didn't truly strive to improve myself. If I had an idea of how much more improving I really needed to do, I could have started improving myself so much sooner, and by now I could have actually been good at this.

      I grew up as the "not too smart" child and it did a number on my conference. Throughout high school, my geography teacher would tell me how much my older brother was smart and getting distinctions but I was getting 50s. I cried a lot because our parents never made us believe one was smarter than the other. Long story short, I decided to put in the work, to apply the effort and it's been five years since then and I work hard, developed a reading hobby and now I feel more dumb😂😂.
      I'm happy I met that teacher, he helped me.
