Stuff like this is usually the actor's call. It's a risk for sure, but that's what makes the job worthwhile.
Yeah
Real
Well it followed the story that was trying to be told and matches really well
diego luna is a director too, he knows his shit!
Yet another reason why _Andor_ is such an amazing Star Wars TV series
Wire of SW universe...
Same thing with Matt Damon in Saving Private Ryan.
But it was Spielberg's direction. Damon wasn't thrilled about it.
Yep, same thing with Charles White in the Hunger Games. In a stroke of genius, Charles decided not to come back even after the rehearsals and to let the whole production go on without him. Absolutely brilliant
And the replacements in Band Of Brothers.
@@georgemartyn5268 Should’ve won an Oscar for his performance for sure!
Literally the only new Star Wars show produced recently which is really worth watching. Mature story telling and decent acting. Every other series felt lacking in comparison.
Prison arc was fine, everything else garbo. Acting was fine tho.
I genuinely think Andor has taken my top spot for favorite shows of all time. Like you said, it's not just a good Star Wars show, it's a good _show._ The dialogue was superb, the stakes felt incredibly high, every character's motivations felt natural and understandable, and it felt very new for the Star Wars franchise, yet still felt like it fit into the universe well. The only thing I really had a problem with was Syril's weird romantic(?) obsession with Dedra, but that's a miniscule part of the show, and the rest is spectacular.
That man had mommy issues
But yea it was a great on the ground in the dirt look at Star Wars and the citizens of the galaxy
We always get their grand epics centered around a tiny segment of the population with force abilities
But never see the ppl affected by their machinations and missteps
The only problem is this show depict rebel Alliance as a cruel terrorist organisation and Cassian want to join people he think were extremist, just because of vengeance, and he is ready to do everything Luthen ask like a fanatic. I sorry but rebel alliance is not so dark in SW. They are not only dark they also act stupid but they have superb dialogues so they look clever. So for me writers of Andor didn't understood SW totally. In true SW Luthen cell and saw guerrera cell go and save the day for the other rebels and they don't try fo search for Cassian to kill him just after let him go. Luthen when to keep his spy that don't want to be spy no more, force him and threaten him while he could tell him ok give up it's too dangerous while same saving those 31 rebels, when you see the5 rebels of Lutehn celles i think having one less spy for 31 rebels lives might worse it. Lutehn is definitely not a charismatic recruiter, he could also just wear a mask if he doesn't want to be froced to kill peoples because they seen his face... The rebels are antifacist activist not dark terrorist, they might play it sneaky and crual but only if they are forced to and not because "this is how you make revolution".
Firefly is still the number 1 for me. Then Andor close second.
@@thomaslacornette1282 Andor is set before the main Rebel Alliance forms, so it makes sense that some rebels would act like terrorists and some would act more heroic before the Rebel Alliance set a more consistent standard for morality.
@@slueepy1232 No that doesn't make sense if you have any logic. It's ok there's different movements that not always agree but Luthen cell seems to be the main one even if they are 5... acting terrorist when you have no choice maybe, nut here they act terrorist for stupod things like 'omg i didn't realize Andor seen my face let's kil him". Terrorist is how facist governments depict resistants, that doesn't mean they are terrorist, they're a difference between kiling innocents and fighting for liberty. Why would even fight for liberty if you don't care at all killing innocents and be a proud terrorist. No that doesn't make sense at all.
I really adore this approach.
I remember in Band of Brothers they intentionally had the main crew do their PT training without David Schwimmer (Sobel).
It had the crew naturally follow the ranked counterparts with Damien Lewis (Winters) leading the group when off screen.
Then when Schwimmer showed up that pecking order was muddled off screen as much as it was on screen.
When it works - it works.
That’s sick as heck I love it!
I'm the same way. My boss asks if I can start an hour early, I say: "No, not really."
This is proof that Star Wars can be good, all it needs is passionate writers that love and understand the universe George Lucas created. I am really hoping that the upcoming Acolyte series is be as good is not better than Andor. Only time will tell.
its def not gonna be good you can just see it from the trailer itself
@@adrianstjrnfldt lol talk about Judging a book by its cover, a trailer that only shows a few scenes doesn’t prove anything, once the show comes out and the story plays out then anyone’s option is totally valid.
@@fazbrogaming7776 Listening to the writers and show-runners, it sounds like the Acolyte is using Star Wars packaging to tell an unrelated story. Books have covers for a reason.
It's Lucasfilm's fault for not keeping director's visions in line with the universe. The truth is nobody really knows what the secret sauce was to this phenomenon we all loved. You can't capture lightning in a bottle a second time. Everything since with the exception of an empire strikes back has been commercial derivative fodder. Sure there have been some highlights here and there but as a whole it's barely fun anymore and hasn't been for some time.
@@fazbrogaming7776 I really want it to be good, however in the trailer itself, they basically tell us it's going to be bad. "It's not about good and evil, it's about power." that is the entire center of Marxism. They don't care about writing a story, they only care about pushing an agenda.
"Do I LOOK... like I go to rehearsal?"
"No... But I'm glad you're here with us."
This is absolutely the best of all the Star Wars shows. It is most of all believable, it has great actors and great writing and true depth. None of the other shows gripped me like this one. Hope Season 2 comes soon.
Oh thanks, I was wondering if there would be a season 2. I'm very happy to hear that. Great show.
It's the best of all star wars, period with ANH coming in second for the world building.
Stories like these is why i love filmmaking.
its a more "chill" version of the Daniel Day Lewis school of method acting, lol
He spent all his rehearsal time with Yabba.
It will be very difficult for anything SW to be better than Andor in the next 10 years.
The best Star Wars stories don't have jedi/lightsabers imo. The universe is so damn rich! It's why Rogue One was by far the best film out of the next batch that we got. It was raw, filled with interesting characters and an interesting universe.
Haha, good excuse to stay off a cold and wet Scottish hillside as long as possible too! I jest… excellent creative idea, and you can feel the tension between them in those heist build-up scenes.
This is one of the rare occasions that method acting works.
0:41 Yooo is that COUSIN??
like saving private ryan, all the actor train like the marines but matt didnt
the saving private ryan method. Basically Tom Hanks and the rest of the squad had to undergo ranger bootcamp for a few weeks, while Matt Damon just got to show up a few weeks later to have that built in bond and resentment
0:39 "extra effort" not going to rehearsal is the oposite of extra effort but if it works it works 😆
Well, it doesn't mean he didn't rehearse, just not with them. Although yeah, while 'extra effort' may be stretching it, it is possible to see why rehearsing without fellow castmates might require more imaginative and creative effort on his part.
Awesome! ❤
They effing nailed it.
He really took the high ground here
Geddit?
Because he left the competition legless and armlesss?
What a guy
Andor is so fuckign good
He sure put in that extra effort by deciding to not show up to work. It must be a coincidence that he got time off.
This show is outstanding for a modern Star Wars production. Hundreds of extras, believable CGI, great adult themes, great performances. The prison episodes are mesmerizing. The tragedy behind some characters, the imperial oppression... It's just too good for Disney. This is the way
The Blu-ray bonus features reveal that he pulled this during the Narkina-5 arc as well.
"extra effort", more extra thought, less effort.
Andor is PEAK starwars.
Jeremy Strong too in the set of succession. He said he wanted to have that visceral fresh feeling as if his character interacted for the first time; but he is extremely method tho. He did want to be sprayed by actual pepper sprayed in trial of Chicago 7
This show is a unicorn. How a truly great show like Andor happened to come out of current era Disney is beyond me.
Or a clever excuse. Hmmm
its good tv that happens to be star wars, thats why its so good. the other shows that try to be star wars first just flop.
Viewers: man CZcams recs is boring
Star Wars Content: *Hello There!!!*
Brilliant choice.
They pulled a Saving Private Ryan on this
Andor: The great critique of the American prison industrial complex... lost on most fans.
He just wanted to keep rehersal, win win, genius.
maybe this is why the rock is always late 7 hours on his new movie
Hello there general bombastic
YES IT DID THANKS
Rogue One and Andor are easily the best things Disney has done imo, so great.
This and Rogue 1 are the best things since the original trilogy.
Wait until execs get their hands on Andor.
One could simply try acting.
Sir Lawrence Olivier
The thumbnail was the exact opposite to the video
I never dig it at first because it has a slow pace intro and then it keeps getting better and better.
method acting done right
He learned all this from Yabba
It's sad that this is an anomaly in the SW universe and not the rule. I hope we can get more characters, more dialogue, more motivation like Andor in their work going forward.
Filoni will keep taking cues from this story, like he did with the bad batch last night. I hope they bring Tony back for another project. Wish Diego could stay too
Is he not staying?
@@jacobscott7261 this will be the last season of Andor, so I’m not sure
Yeah i could watch shows like andor and mando non stop. I think ive watched andor and rougue one about half a dozen times.
Same with mando. The issue is its been a good while and im ready for another season
I've already written it many times.
I don't like Disney, I'm not especially a Star Wars fan.
I love Andor, on every aspects, story, acting, filming, music etc...
Well it worked 🙃
Andor had no right to be as good as it was.
Andor isn't really a Star Wars story. I know it's got Star Wars stuff in it (Luthen IS a Jedi.....or onetime Sith) but it's a whole different feel.
"It's a good story and it's told well." THAT'S ALL WE WANTED FROM THE OTHER TRASH MOVIES (minus Rogue One that was great )
Damn. I quit Disney+ plus because I got disillusioned about Star Wars. You telling me I should have watched Andor?!
I just don’t love the prison arc but I love the heist build up
kind of clickbait title no?
Sound logic. Season one was pretty good. Especially when compared to the garbage disney pumps out.
Go through that "extra effort". You mean... less effort, right? 'cause it's not that he went and did something. He literally DIDN'T do something, and is getting praised for it. Guess what? He could've gone to those rehersals and it wouldn't have made a difference. You know why? 'cause they could've just ACTED like he wa an outsider. That is what the job is called, after all....
tf is the title ...
To bad it is within the Star Wars banner, which is shit now
LOL. No, it's stupid. It would've been even better if he actually attended rehearsals!
Cool acting decisions make fun theater 🎭. Great series too. I’m biased. 👍🤪🏳️🌈
Realistically he probably knew he wasn’t getting paid for that part lol imagine doing less work lol
We gonna give him a medal for not being a teamplayer with less known actors ? You can pretend you're fighting a galactic war but not to meet people for the first time ? The guy did'nt want to do the effort or maybe he had a busy schedual but stop pretending this was a great acting move
Andor is the reason the rest of Disney Star Wars (including the Blandasnorian and the animated BS) is so unacceptably bad
Andor does not sell.
Disney made a good show. But the fact of the matter is that it does not sell. It does not promote subscription in disney+. It does not sell tshirts etc. The fact that they are making a season 2 is counfonding to me.
Andor is a character who is.. dead.
I'm glad they made it, but SW needs to sell itself more at this point. At least it was a good show.
Why does Star Wars need to sell? It’s doing just fine.
Anakin was a character who was dead, but they went back and made three movies about him.
The was originally going to be five seasons, but then they realized it would take too long.
The whole reason a lot of starwars is shit right now is because of their desire ‘to sell’. Biggest example is The Mandalorian not being able to have character growth cause they want to keep Grogu for marketing.
But it does sell, it sold pretty well, not as well and Mandalorian, but it was cheaper so they made their money back
Smart
I am the 1,000th like. 🙂
No wonder his acting is so annoying
Andor actor was quite literally the worst actor on the show
mid
Such a waste of talent
Andor is not a good show. It's a boring slog, punctuated by some very cool action sequences. It is absolutely riddled with inconsistencies and plot holes. The worst, in my opinion, being Andor's search for his missing sister. He is so motivated to locate his long lost sister that he defies curfew and murders the nightwatch. But by episode 2, the sister is gone from his memory and apparently the memory of the writers. Preposterous. Cassian is selected by Luthen Rael because "he's not like other girls" but we really don't see why. He adds nothing meaningful in the way of skills or abilities to the team on Aldhani. Once he escapes, he makes his way to Narkina 5 where his special skills and amazing talents lead him to stand, like a complete idiot on the street while a criminal runs past him and then be arrested by the imperials. It's mind-bogglingly silly. They wanted to get him into prison, but they couldn't allow him to get caught so they contrived this meritless incarceration that just makes him look like a complete fool. We are expected to love Cassian because "he is the chosen one," not for anything his badly written character actually does in this train wreck of a series. I like Cassian LESS having watched the series than I did just seeing him in Rogue One.
Seriously, the audacity to just not show up for work and take it easy at home 😒
It really shows in the final product.
Idk, didn't watch the video, I just read the title
Show is a snooze fest until the prison arc then it resumes being a snooze fest
Got bored through most of the arc up until the heist happened. Couldn't remember half the crew's names outside of Cassian, and it didn't need to meander into two long episode of them just talking before the big event occurs. Was I missing something there? And don't just say good writing.
It was a slow build to pay the Heist off harder.
Good writing!
@@thisismyhandleonyoutube Get out!
There are multiple people being followed in each episode of Andor such as Luthen, Mon Mothma, Syril Karn, and Dedra Meero in the ISB. You weren't watching them talk the whole time on Aldhani.
@@lucasschultz Still bored.
Andor was too slow for my liking , And the villains wore red white and blue , went from being dressed like Nazi's to being dressed like American soldiers
I don’t remember the Empire ever wearing red in the show
@@Freshwater121 They literally do
Andor is the most boring SW show ever.
majority will disagree with you. Star wars is not just fancy force sorcery bro grow up
Go watch more slop like Mandolorian and Ahsoka.
its one of the best rated sw shows many most love it actually.
imagine still paying attention to Disney Star Wars
I disagree with the majority of people. I don't think this show was amazing. It was good, but there were definitely parts that didn't make sense, and also it's a character that honestly nobody needed a show on. Jar jar didn't even get a show 😂
