Edge of Tomorrow "only" goes down to 10Hz. It's 5 x single frequency tones - 30Hz,25Hz,20Hz,15Hz and 10Hz - so technically the 1723 2V did play it all back
After testing that sequence on my 1723 2V sub, I set up the subsonic filter to start rolling off at 20hz - I couldn't feel anything at all on the 10hz part. Maybe it's my room (40 square meters, fairly big living room).
I've been eagerly waiting someone to do a review on the new line of subs, thanks Shane! So to summarise, Arendal have extended the response to provide more low end, but stuck to their 'dynamics' ethos. So it's the same dilemma we face with the old line of Arendal subs. Would you prefer a fatter, gruntier sound? If so then go SVS. Or do you prefer a more lean faster paced sound? If so, then go Arendal. That is, until price comes into it. On paper, the 1723 2S is the same as the SB4000 but two SB4000's cost £3598 (black gloss) whereas two 2S's cost £4200 (black gloss). To put that into perspective, that's dangerously close to the same price point as two PB4000's! (£4498 gloss black). On the contrary two 1V's cost just £3400. So do you sacrifice a bit of power and gain more in extension with the two Arendal ported subs, or do you have more power an sacrifice a bit of extension with two SVS sealed subs within the same price range?
I suspect you’ll be hard pressed to find a single cabinet dual sub with built in DSP, 7 filters and solid output down to 10 Hz at this price point. Impressive to say the least. The LED screen while very nice is probably unnecessary especially once you have the app
It is - until the app stops working due to lack of updates, new phone which is not supported, BT module on the sub fails or a multitude of other reasons. The LED screen is one of the reasons why I bought one of these over the B&W flagship sub, which has ZERO controls on it whatsoever - only an app that hardly works at all. Coming from an IT background, I'm all about the redundancies though.
To my knowledge Pb16 does not reach 10 hz / 100 db - and regarding EOT start - who cares just a stupid demo and does not tell much. I like that the 2 v you can turn display upside / down when you lean over it. Agree with the app thing that would be nice. Amazing with all the settings and filters in the amp. Could be my next sub. Thx for the review !
I wouldn't. As usual REL is too focused on being musical, even with their 'home theatre' line. They have a -6db@21Hz response. Yeeah no thank you. Arendal is the best middle ground. SVS digs deep but is fat and slow, Arendal doesn't dig as deep but is lean and much faster paced. REL's punch is so shallow it's more like a slap but it delivers those slaps at a much faster pace than Arendal's and SVS's punches. Usually a fast paced shallow punch is better for music and well, REL have their traditional subs for that so the Predator line really has no place.
@@AWSimDrifter , I have had the ported SVS PC 2000 which was nice and now the Rel Predator which is very nice. It punches real hard especially in movies like Underwater, Terminator Dark Fate, John Wick 3 ( Gunshots inside the hotel scene) etc. It may not have the deep extension but I don't miss that at all considering how it plays the other frequencies. Also it's great with music. I don't think for my tastes I need a ported sub. Best part is you don't have to tinker around too much to blend it with the fronts.
Why 2V and not 1S? I can't find any reviews for the new 1S, which I'm considering as an alternative to SVS SB3000 (both are sealed) BTW, you can use any sub with two systems, by using the two inputs (1&2 or L&R RCA), or by the help of MiniDSP 2X4HD.

@@medic17508 I have two 1723 2s right now. Im happy with them 😀 plenty of power and honestly, I don’t use their full potential. I think that the most important feature is the app control. I would never go back to using a sub without app control. Its so critical to be able to control volume and eq to tune them well in your room when watching material that are mixed at different levels. Honestly, i think both A2S and SvsSB16 will probably satisfy. However, if you have room and finances, I’d be considering their ported alternatives for ultimate no compromise performance. So the question is sealed or vented, not svs or arendal. If you can go to get a demo of a vented sub vs a sealed sub you’ll know what’s right for you. Do you currently own any subs? Or will this be your first purchase? Since im thinking about it… given what I know today, Id probably go for dual SVS 3000 micro or smaller sealed alternatives since I do have some space constraints to deal with. If i had more space, or a dedicated room id 100% go for a vented sub. The 2s are great subs, but if you can go big, go huge 😀

No offense to Shane but I think the 'single digit' infrasonics bit is just incorrect. The REW of the PB16s and from what we know of the PB16s, they fall of a cliff at 15hz. And Shane's REW attests to that. Whatever infrasonics shane is feeling from the PB16 (and not the Arendals) I don't think is to do with anything single digit because the PB16s just aren't that kind of speaker. I wonder how the 1V will compare to the 2V. The 2V is awesome but the placement flexibility due to having to accomdate TWO drivers is a pain in the butt...

I am making a big decision and I really needed your opinion as you have tested the Perlisten lineup as well as these Arendal subs I have my eyes on. Compared to the Perlisten R series ( I am highly considering R215S) would these Arendal 1723 2V be just as good? The Perlistens are significantly more here in Canada (7500 before taxes for the R215S) or I can get the 1723 2V for $5000 CAD. You have also recently tested the r210s. How are those compared to the Arendal? Right now I have a single SVS PB2000 pro and I’m craving that low frequency feel to the body and pressurization. I would really appreciate your opinion!

I just don’t want to deal with that mechanical noise at low frequencies you discussed in the PSA subwoofer. If the Arendal don’t have that issue I will definitely go with it. so if the subwoofers are opposed, they will automatically have an isobaric loading with one moving out while the other is moving in (flipped polarity for one of the drivers), as far as i know and remember, there isn't ANY isobaric subwoofers which are ported and will just mess everything up. This is only my knowledge tho so maybe someone can help me answer this question.
@@kevinwest1607 i have done more research and found that you CAN run isobaric loading using ports. If you run a subwoofer back to back like this subwoofer then it would probably be a no brainer to flip the second driver's polarity making it a isobaric loaded subwoofer. There are a lot of isobaric loaded subwoofer like these magnet to magnet isobaric loaded subwoofer like the devialet phantom, PSA dual sealed series and a lot more. but so far i have found none to have a port which makes this sub really interesting.
Wow. What subwoofer *can* handle the single digit infrasonic scene in Edge of Tomorrow?!? I've seen several reviews of otherwise great subs, and you say they all can't handle it.
Huge JTR, PSA, Deepsea etc. Can do it properly. the intro scene asks atleast 115db clean output at 10hz at reference levels it should make you feel almost dizzy.
Who cares about that little intro - no other movie have that demand. Monument scene in olympus has fallen is way more important. This 10 hz thing is just a test tone and not an actual sound effect. Btw the svs pb 16 ultras does not hit 10 hz and if so way down the db range. Look at meassurements found out there like audioholics !
Do u think the 2v sound signature are better because the port is at the back not the front ? ,Compare to the SVS 16. have tried the sb 3000s in comparison , as they are sealed what would u compare the 2v to them ?
its probably the better dynamics which arendal explain in their interview with shane. the dua opposing drivers will definitely improve the tightness in bass and minimise cabinet movement. why are u comparing a sealed to a vented sub? the arendals are going to (in vented mode) have a lot more output. I'd assume as its bigger in cabniet size alone.. its going to out-do the sb 3000 comfortably even in sealed mode.
Comparing the graphs of these to the KEF KF92's response in your room from that review shows that the KEF's measure much better. In terms of real world performance though, how big of a difference do you find with these being massive ported boxes compared to the small sealed KEF's?

@@PragmaticTornado Ofcourse you dont feel it when you have subsonic filter on. Subsonic filter cuts out the under 20hz sounds

That's almost as big as my new sub. Mine is 24x24x23. With a 15" driver and a 900 watt rms amp. 1800 watt peak wattage.

They are not running isobaric loading. If they where they would cancel each other out in that configuration.

There doesn't seem to be unless it's hidden. 60 mins should be more than sufficient though.

Do u think the 2v sound signature are better because the port is at the back not the front ? ,Compare to the SVS 16. have tried the sb 3000s in comparison , as they are sealed what would u compare the 2v to them ?
its probably the better dynamics which arendal explain in their interview with shane. the dua opposing drivers will definitely improve the tightness in bass and minimise cabinet movement.
why are u comparing a sealed to a vented sub? the arendals are going to (in vented mode) have a lot more output. I'd assume as its bigger in cabniet size alone.. its going to out-do the sb 3000 comfortably even in sealed mode.

Comparing the graphs of these to the KEF KF92's response in your room from that review shows that the KEF's measure much better. In terms of real world performance though, how big of a difference do you find with these being massive ported boxes compared to the small sealed KEF's?
