Dude. WinRAR is what is known as a "nag ware". The free trial never ends. The idea of a nag ware is to keep nagging you until you eventually feel bad and pay for the full version. The full and trial version have basically 0 difference in terms of functionality.
I heard that WinRAR has that strategy because it makes it so that people use it because of how good it is and expects companies and rich people to pay for the full version.
@@AbridgedPwned they don’t care about having individual users going past the trial period. That is basically their entire marketing strategy. They go after companies that use it
i actually never paid attention to the difference and thought i was using zip cause i wasn't paying, but turns out winrar doesn't really force you to pay...
7zip can self-encrypt with a password! No matter where it goes, it's safe, so long as it's not being ripped open by a robot! In which case use anti-bot encryption!
Popular open source programs are almost always safe, because the source-code availability makes any programmer able to study how the program works, so it can't hide any shady stuff from the user
Godot: nobody buys winrar Yes little friend, nobody buys it, because you can use it for free, it'll just create ads to convince you buy it, I use winrar for like, 3 years now and I never spend any money buying that
I use _7-zip,_ myself. There's not commitment to buy, no ads, it integrates itself with Windows in a non-annoying way, and I can open all sorts of compressed directory / folder archives, such as RAR, LZH, and even the long-forgotten ARJ. I think it can only compress to ZIP and 7Z, though. But that's all I need.
7-zip is legit. So is Winrar, and the trial can be extended indefinetely. They only nag you so big companies using it buy it. I think they set it up in a way where they expected the majority to just use it free, lol.
I'm with the mug guy. Zip folders are way better. Winrar barrages you with ads but 7zip doesn't. Every time i extract a rar I cant browse my folders in explorer. The fast speed takes away your computing power when you are doing other things.
@@mardycarnecer9590 i believe he meant those "pls buy our products" pop up, which could be solved if you get a cracked winrar. Gets virus? Skill issue, be a better pirate
Leave it to Godot to find a way to get his computer hacked trying to download WinRar for free or an alternative. He probably tried turning the system32 folder into a .rar or .zip file on the process. All while saving $29. Happens in the best of families.
zip is more portable than rar, if you are distributing files cross-platform then you should be using zip. Also encryption isn't to prevent viruses, it's to ensure that only those who know the password can view the contents. If you don't password protect your archive files, then there will be no encryption.
Fun fact: To crack winrar, all you need is a valid license file. It doesn't check online if that is valid. And you won't get a virus because it's essentially a text file.
@@nicholas7743 That was one year ago. But the only thing I'd say could be crack'd is the reminder to activate WinRAR. To be fair I use 7-Zip anyways so I don't know.
Can anyone tell me why there is no program like WinRAR included in computers/laptops. It's annoying that you need to download something that should already be included in the device.
You can actually get the full version of it for free. All you need to do is install it and put the license key in the files and it lasts forever XD There is vids about how u can do it.
Just in case this is a legitimate argument somewhere I can safely agree that as far as I can tell peazip is usually a good alternative. I use it when downloading mods for my games like stardew
