Before the COVID-19 pandemic, of the 1·9 billion individuals who menstruate, an estimated 500 million were unable to attain menstrual health. Menstrual hygiene management enables women and girls to reach their full potential.

Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) is essential to the well-being and empowerment of women and adolescent girls. On any given day, more than 300 million women worldwide are menstruating. In total, an estimated 500 million lack access to menstrual products and adequate facilities for menstrual hygiene management (MHM).

Sustainable menstruation is being mindful of the negative effects disposable sanitary products have on our environment in efforts to reduce the plastic waste ending up in our oceans or landfills. This movement also focuses on the access to sustainable menstruation products all people who menstruate should have.
