Yes, the company that produces the starter kits was too small to afford tv advertising, so they made this with the intention of it being shared across social media. I think it worked out pretty well.
My friends mum showed us all this at her 13th and we were all visibly cringing every three seconds. A true mother.
Periods were a shame and taboo subject in my family. If I had seen a video like this back then, it would have helped me SO MUCH. I remember that i hid every book that just mentioned the period when i was a kid/teen. I was so amazed, that some brave writers dared talking about this! Without realizing, that the way my family dealt with this topic wasn't normal. Without me prompting, many years later, my mom apologized. I never really blamed her - I knew the way she grew up, that it wasn't her fault. But it took a long time to get over it. I am raising my kid differently. He knew about periods from about age 5, because he asked about a box of tampons. There were many pregnant moms around him, so he already knew where babies come from and where they grow. I explained periods as the moment, when the nest, the body builds for an egg, isn't used. And it gets flushed out with blood. He took it like as if I were talking about shampoo or lip balm. It was a long road for me to get there, but videos like this really help.
Just taking the taboo away, showing all kinds of different people "being in on the joke", a kid (naively but sincerely) WANTING a period. I am so happy how far things have come.

I've got a bit of a story that put shame in me.
I was probably 14 & had my first period less than a year ago. I just happened to be on it when my family went to my aunt's house. I had to use the bathroom to pee & change out my pad. When I asked my mom what to do with my pad, she had me stuff it in her purse because she didn't want me leaving it at my aunt's place.
Years later, as in 11 years later, I was at a friend's for Thanksgiving. I was on my period then & had to change out my pad. My friend (a guy) sees me stuffing a plastic bag into my purse with my pad in it. He asks me, "Ehat are you doing ?" I tell him I'm wrapping it up so I can throw it away at home. He just told me to toss it at his place.
After that, I have no shame around my period.
Not saying I announce when Aunt Flow comes for a visit, but I'm not ashamed of it.

I once was on a retreat for teens and unexpectedly got my period. I was too ashamed to ask the counselors (who 100% would have helped me without shame) and had to make my own products that irritated my skin horribly. I was so emberassed YEARS LATER to just talk about this. Friends like your guy friend who treat this just like a bodily function it is, are truly helpful.

Insert Name it’s kind of a social thing, where a lot of girls who haven’t had theirs yet feel like they don’t fit in and sometimes other girls make you feel bad about it. It’s kind of like when guys still have a high pitch voice or their voice cracks. You don’t want to be the first person to have the change but definitely not one of the last ones.
