Wow this was awesome. I'll definitely be listening to your podcasts.
I thoroughly enjoy listening to your suggestions and playing tips on your CZcams channel. I’m 76 years old and I have played the piano for many years. I discovered your channel a few years ago and you have inspired me to continue practicing pieces from my teen years and learning new skills by challenging myself. Your 3 tips on motivation are encouraging and beneficial. I have found that playing the piano and trying to memorize pieces is a way of aging beautifully. Thank you for your encouragement.
Suzanne Wagner thanks so much Suzanne. Keep up the great work! I wish you all the best on your continued musical journey
What a fabulous discussion. Your voice is so calming and encouraging when all the world is crazy and makes so much sense.
I love your podcasts and videos! Everything you post is always so helpful; not only do you help us practice in different ways but you also help us think in different ways. Thank you!!
What is your opinion on methods such as RCM or ABRSM? Do you think completing a diploma exam is any indicator that someone is a good pianist or do you not believe in exams much?
Thanks Josh.....while it’s always great to listen to you.......request to please list the tips at the end or summarize them.....will drive home the points better!
Your hair looks so good!!
Really solid advice! 👍👍
Bro Josh, U are one of those who give me huge motivation; especially when it comes to practicing on certain pieces of Music,,, I am on a holiday in Thailand right now and I'm getting help from a Music teacher here for one of my top favorite pieces by J.S Bach (Prelude and Fugue in A minor, BWV 543). Being a perfectionist gives me hard time; particularly when wanting to play a piece at the same original speed.
Many thx again for your support and motivating spirit,,,
Blessings
Sam ♥️🎵✌🏻
Sam thanks Sam. I wish you all the best in your continued musical journey
I got a lot from this vid. Cheers Josh
I watch these all the time, and I especially liked this one (which I would normally have seen/heard had you not specially included it here in CZcams). I liked your advice to the guy who wants to be famous, to focus instead on determining what sort of repertoire he wants to work at acquiring the chops to play at performance level, and to find some mentors to gain inspo from, even if they're far-away CZcamsrs or Instagramers. I wonder if he might also benefit from an introduction to the business side of local performing where he is, to get a feel for whether it's for him.
Great tips! Thanks. 😊
"we have a few blind people that *WATCH* this channel*
its possible to navigate on youtube or any site by turning on accessibility
+Im Hassan Lots of deaf people listen to his podcast, too. :-)
Escape the Matrix and a number of dead people come alive to his music too
@@FirstnameLastname-uc5sb *lol*
Blind people do use the word "watch". I worked with a gentleman for a couple of months who used to enjoy going to movies and moreso the theatre. His partner would take him and quietly set the scene if he got a bit lost with what was happening. Or there was no dialogue going on. Amazingly acute hearing and "sense" he knew who was approaching him before they even spoke and he used to enjoy saying "Hello (name)" before they did.
Thank youuuuu
any progress on Mazeppa?
Josh, you really touched a nerve for me with this video. I hate to bring up the American presidential campaign, but we've got one candidate saying 'we need free tuition.' Been saying it for years now, but we're no closer. Meanwhile, thousands of people are creating so much amazing education in so many fields, free or affordable. In music: you, Rick Beato, Graham Fitch, Golandsky Institute, I could go on and on.
I'm studying Japanese online -- free or affordable premium. Japanese Pod, Miku, Tae Kim, Yuta -- to the point where I spend as much time on Japanese social media as English-speaking. My online 'friend' recently rose to the equivalent of the Van Cliburn finals in the Japan breakdancing competition -- he's the first person I thought of in your list, a total ace, super hard-working. When he lost in the finals, it was crushing for him, but he bounced right back with such inspiring mental toughness. How is it possible that I can follow this guy on the other end of the world in another language? Because of free education. Python programming, MIT OpenCourseware, Udemy, Khan Academy, Cymatics, and on and on. Apps, podcasts, videos. I've had tons of formal education at the allegedly 'good schools', so I know what good education looks like. And it's the 'Evil System' that creates both the platform and the incentives for skilled people to offer free (and debt-free!) education. Some people just take action and make it happen.
"Cross Contamination" You got CZcams on my Podcast! Nu-huh! You got Podcast on my CZcams!
Please make a video about chopin scherzo 1. Specially the coda/ending.
I would imagine that the podcast in question is Gary’s? His youtube stuff motivates me too, just like your content! Thank you again for all your help
Peter Hontaru - Piano Progress haha shoot me an email and I’ll tell you. Thanks for the support over the years Peter!
Nice video. This may be unimportant but it’s pretty important for me. How do you control breathing in fast passages? When I play fast passages, I tend to hold my breath and as a result, I get anxious and make mistakes. I haven’t seen any of this topic discussed a lot so maybe I can ask for advice here.
🙌💯
Ace Hardy thanks Ace!
can you make an asmr video for sleep. you have a very relaxing voice
Thanks for the tips!! Very helpful! Also I'm the first to comment
Ryan's Piano Express thanks for your kindness Ryan!
Your welcome Josh. You are one of my favourite pianists
@@joshwrightpiano please could you do a video on Chopin's "Waltz In A Minor." I am hoping to do it for a performance in school. There are a couple things I can't get perfected like playing really softly and the getting the quavers in time with the quick bits. Thanks
@@pianoguy3563 He already made a video on this channel.
@@ananthd4797 Thanks, that is useful
Thanks that was exactly what I needed. I'm learning the final of Beethoven's sixth sonata now and I just can't get it on the tempo I want
Luca Klös glad you enjoyed it Luca! Good luck with the Beethoven
I think Josh won't mind my recommending a video by Graham Fitch on upping the tempo. Josh admires Graham and recently did a couple of Skype videos with him. They were great. I think the channel name is Pianist Magazine. If I can find the link in my history I'll post it for you. I was ill in bed last week and watched a lot! Edit: OK I found it! This is Part 1 czcams.com/video/EwPelTglPTk/video.html
Once you are on the channel you should be able to find part 2 but if I come across it I will post that for you too. Good luck!
Part 2 just popped up on my feed. Just proves YT is indeed watching everything we say and do. 🤔Here it is czcams.com/video/o9-KEnkBwjg/video.html
Hi josh, not related to the the video, i started playing piano three months ago at 26 yo after 16 years of being a guitarist and i wanted to say a big thank you for the huge help you are providing
Hi, Josh! I was just wondering. My book of Bach preludes has some slight note changes from other people's scores online. I'm using "Schirmer's Library of Musical Classics Bach Well-Tempered Clavier for the Piano - Czerny", and Prelude VIII in Eb minor has some different rhythms in it.
I don't know if you already made a video on this, but can I trust this book or should I look elsewhere, maybe IMSLP or another publisher?
Thank you so much for all you do!
Ogany Supreme great question. I would get a Henle Edition. Wiener Urtext is also great. Schirmer tends to be less reliable, especially with older works
@@joshwrightpiano Thank you so much!
Thank you. I'm just at the moment when for ten months of everyday playing 2-5h I am going through a moment of doubt. I can't play as well as I would like. I wonder whether to keep trying or give up.
Robert Dublowski it’s moments like these that define who you are. Keep trying, pushing, and being creative...results are not always in the time we want, but they will come
@@joshwrightpiano Thank you :) I am a bit afraid that 48 years is a bit too late to learn to play :)
Robert Dublowski Never too late Robert, I’m 69 and just starting to learn piano. It was a bucket list item for me. I have no desire to become a concert pianist but rather be able to enjoy and play some of the beautiful music out there. Patience is not a virtue for me but my motivation overrides my moments of doubt. Stay with it and you’ll look back and appreciate the journey.
@@randywhite1724 I wish you perseverance. I won't give up easily either :)
👍✌😎 ~~your sub - John Curtis Piano - for the blind pianist!
John Curtis Piano thanks John!
@@joshwrightpiano No problem! 2 John's don't make it WRIGHT. ahhhhhhh hahaha sorry i couldnt help myself.....

Hi Josh, I have been learning Winter Wind lately and the process of practicing it is extremely exausting. Do you have any tips or do you think the piece is simply way too hard for me at the moment?
Great video! A bit of a weird question but what is the intro tune?
I think it is from liszt paginini etude 6 but I am not sure. It sort of sounds like it
@@DavidCooll Its that etude for sure
Thank you for your kindness. Yes, it’s the end of the first variation in the Liszt-Paganini Etude No.6
Can anybody tell me again, what piece the excerpt of josh's intro is from. I forgot which one it was 😅
Liszt - Paganini Etude no 6
Ananth D thank you man 😊
Come on! Tell us who the podcast is that you like. No one cares if he swears. We won’t judge you 😉. Joe Rogan?
Pierre Cohen haha shoot me an email and I’ll tell you
@@joshwrightpiano Get ready for 87,000 emails! *lol*
You have NO blind pianists watching this channel😂
Hey Josh, I think the ASMR close to the microphone style is a bit uncomfortable.
This was primarily a podcast.
Well it worked for me, the opening part was too quiet! Can't please 'em all!
This is completely off the cuff, but I think, Prof Wright, you ought to maybe get your heart checked or stg...I've been watching quite a few of your videos, even from when you were younger (...have subscribed too)-- it's a simple observation -- that's all.
