  • We take a quick walkaround tour of our 2012 Four Wheel Camper Eagle Model with the dinette option. We'll show you the outside features and then take you inside for a look. We've logged well over 200 nights in this Eagle, which we originally had on our 2006 Tacoma and now have mounted on our 2020 Ranger.
    If you have any questions on this camper be sure to leave them in the comments and we'll get back to you.

    I'm more than 3 weeks late to this party. LOL! Super cool! We started out tent camping 30 years ago then bought a used Wilderness camper and LOVED it! A sad day when we let it go and back to tent camping for a few years. We discussed a pop-up camper but concern with inclement weather in the NW (aka North"wet") and not having a place to store it during the winter or just to dry it out. Curious on how you handle both which you may have answered in another video or blog as this is the first video I'm watching after reading the Maiden Voyage on your blog. Thank you to your wife for putting me on to your channel! 🥰

      We keep the camper on the truck and continue to use it in the winter (not so much last winter, but that was the exception). Winter camping is pretty great if you time it right and choose the location wisely. As for drying it out, if we come home with it wet from condensation and rainy weather we pop the top and plug it into shore power, then we run a little plug in electric space heater and the vent fan in the roof for a bit. It doesn't take long. It's weather proof, but we do get condensation. You can also use reflectix or Four Wheel Camper also makes an arctic pack that adds some insulation and helps minimize condensation. Alternatively, if you are somewhere like a state park that has electric (we stay at Oregon State Parks on the coast for example) it may be worth the extra couple bucks and just plug in and run the electric heat while you camp to keep everything dry. In our recent cross country trip we found that if we were paying for a site (not our favorite type of camping) that staying in an electric site added only a couple bucks to the price and it meant that we would be able to dry anything out we needed to while we were there.

    Good tour of your Camper! You've got it set up to meet your needs. Like you we do most of our cooking outdoors. We enjoy your channel.

    Great tour, thanks! Could you tell me more about how you did the gas struts if you remember. Part numbers, length, mounting anything you can share would be awesome

      Here's a link to the document I used for guidance. Four Wheel camper sells a kit with all the hardware except the struts which you can find in many locations and online. drive.google.com/file/d/1_fMYuXXuUi1RxOBYTUh_6VzvZFULtM6F/view?usp=drivesdk

    Nice to see a Ranger with a FWC. I wish they still made the eagle model.

      Yeah we really like the Eagle size, seems like the trend is always bigger is better. The Ranger has been good so far - we decided it seemed more capable in several categories than the Tacoma we thought we'd be buying.

      I also thought I was getting a Tacoma. But the Ranger beat it in every category and just feels better to drive.

    3 weeks late to the party - I just want to add that the width of the Eagle is much more preferable to the wider Fleet model when mounted on either a Ranger or Tacoma. - Essentially, the narrower shell allows for a bit more rear view visibility from the stock side mirrors of the truck. Question: Which Exped mattresses did you choose?

    • @OccidentalistOutdoors
      @OccidentalistOutdoors  Před 2 lety +1

      We have the Megamat 10 which runs 4 inches thick. We got two 1 person pads so we would have flexibility to use outside the camper individually. They also were the right size in combination to fill up the entire bed area so a gap doesn't form between the mattresses.

    Where did you find this camper if they don’t make it anymore or have you had it for awhile? I’ve been looking for a camper that will fit a Nissan Frontier for over a year and have had no luck! I love this one!
    Great tour also! Thanks for sharing! It gives me hope I can do this with a Nissan Frontier

    • @OccidentalistOutdoors
      @OccidentalistOutdoors  Před 2 lety +1

      We bought it used. You have to be willing to look daily and jump on them when they come available. There is a forum called wander the west and a thread on there that gets updated daily from people around the country on new campers like this for sale. That's the best way I know of to watch for one. We used to own an older late 90's model, I spotted it almost immediately when posted, drove 600 miles the same day and there were people in line behind me if I didn't want it. This one we snapped up as an upgrade, about 150 miles from home. They do make a Fleet model which is wider than the Eagle but would also fit a Frontier.

      @@OccidentalistOutdoors Great info! Thanks! I have been watching on a RV Trader and following some groups on Facebook, just haven’t seen anything that would work for my truck and of coarse Craig’s List! I’m gonna keep looking and see if I can find info on the website you suggested. Happy Travels!

    What year is the camper and if I may ask what did you pay for it. I’m in the market, just attempting to get a handle on cost.

      It's a 2012 Silver Spur Edition (inside and out). We bought it in 2019, it was in excellent condition, hardly used, for $15,000.

    How do you like the Eagle/Ranger combo? I've got a Ranger on order (coming in May) and will be pairing it with my Fleet.

    • @OccidentalistOutdoors
      @OccidentalistOutdoors  Před 2 lety

      We like the Ranger and the Eagle. We did have to build a base because the bed rails are high on the Ranger, so you may have to plan for that. 2x4's seemed to be the right height so the Eagle sits on the bed and not on the rails. The truck has tons of power, even towing. The one thing that we probably still need to do is supplement the suspension with either airbags or another spring. We added an Old Man Emu spring pack to our old Tacoma as well.
