Grand Park via Lake Eleanor, Mount Rainier - Washington State

- Grand Park, within Mt Rainier National Park has a "backdoor" approach via Lake Eleanor. The trail is much easier and shorter than from Sunrise and doesn’t require a park entry pass. The hike begins just off forest service road 7360 and follows along the edge of Eleanor Creek to the lake. From there the trail steepens and climbs through a large hemlock and fir forest. The moderate climb is broken up by progressively larger meadows, until you reach the wide open expanse of Grand Park.
Often filled with wildflowers during the spring and summer months, the meadow turns brown in autumn and can seem more reminiscent of a prairie in the high Rocky Mountains than a meadow in the Cascades. This is a great place to soak up the sun and enjoy the spectacular view of glacial covered Mt Rainier.
