The Man Who Stares at Pandas yeah Midsommar was fine , it lacked in story and , the character deaths as well ( mostly off screen ), but the great tension remained and he directed the heck out of it. Midsommar I saw it as his up and coming film , with Hereditary as his masterpiece. Midsommar should have been his first film ha , third time is a charm

It’s up now
Hereditary made your list? Really? How? That movie was so bad. It was mind-numbingly boring until the end when it became absurdly (even humorously) ridiculous. Filled with forgettable characters who seem to be actively trying to prevent the viewer from connecting emotionally as they navigate through an uninspired and completely predictable plot, it's one of the worst films I've ever seen.
That said, good on you for giving the nod to Upgrade. Such an enjoyable film, yet no one saw it. What a shame.
Your pick for best film is undoubtedly a great flick, but the best film of 2018 is Bad Times at the El Royale. It's such a terrific and underrated film. It's so expertly crafted and the cast was absolutely stellar.
Lol That’s a hot take. Hereditary is the Excorcist of this new generation. There’s no emotional beats you need to fill in haunting movies like that. Bad Times at El Royale was a good thriller but it then it started beating it self off at the end. Way too symbolic and not necessarily a good pay off, coming off as pretentious. But it’s good for the effort. The first half was way better
