Wow, thanks for sharing our story. After having so many people tell us to just get over it and dismissing us because we weren’t murdered, we feel vindicated.
You my dear lady have waaaaay bigger balls than I do. And I for one am very grateful you weren't murdered!
Hope you all are in a MUCH better place now!! 🖤
Wow! Glad to hear you guys are ok!! What a horrible situation your family endured.
Wow, it's hard to imagine what you went through. Funny how ballen mentioned your whereabouts are unknown and now we get to hear from you😀. Please take care and stay safe, wishing happiness for you and your family

Seriously, this guy let’s his wife go confront a potential intruder by herself.
There is clearly more going on in that relationship than just what we’re told. In my opinion, he clearly hated his life or his wife- either he was depressed or just unbelievably stupid.
This is the ultimate "I told you so" story. Husband would be hearing it beyond the grave.

Omg ikr I thought he was working with the killer bc surely no one could be that stupid
I can't believe James let his wife go downstairs by herself. Even if you are skeptical, protect your family at all cost.
Yeah, what a dummy. Glad he ultimately caught the guy. Must've been stupid for Brittany to watch the idiot hero battle the idiot villian. 🤣
Or at least check on your kids.
Let's be honest, in most cases women ARE just hearing noises.
This is absolutely correct. I love that Bill Burr bit: "Maybe women only make $0.75 on the dollar, but maybe that's the price they pay for getting to go first in the lifeboat. Oh, you're not gonna go check out that noise outside? That's why I make $0.25 more than you."
James should have had his "man card" suspended for a while if not taken away. Protection fail, James.
I am the opposite of James. My daughter told me one day that she saw someone trying to look into her window. I immediately got security cameras, Motion lights, and fixed the broken fence panel. My wife said she thinks she heard someone talking near our window. I Immediately grab a flashlight and a bat and make my way outside. No hesitation. I believe and trust my family when they are afraid. I will never dismiss them. After a few scares, we got a Catahoula Leopard Dog and I trained her how to guard. Best decision ever.

It's horrifying to know there are psychopaths like this guy living amongst us. Even more terrifying is he was LITERALLY living amongst the poor family in real time! Very scary!!
James is like every father in a horror movie. The wife notices all these strange things happening and the husband is super dismissive and threatens to leave until he finally sees it for himself.
If I was the wife, if I have the money & means to, I would’ve taken the kids with me to a nearby hotel for a week.
And as for the family returning home from their trip, I would’ve called the cops at the mere sight of my bicycle I know DAMN WELL nobody used recently. We’ve would’ve all been waiting at A) At the end of the block or B) Inside a police station for help to arrive
Lol. My boyfriend too. I think some men automatically assume women are all overly paranoid. Once we had a skunk trapped in our crawlspace and he "couldn't smell anything" for the longest time then suddenly he jumps up and says "call 911, there's a gas leak". I insisted that he go look in the crawl space so he found the skunk as I was on the phone with 911 😭. Luckily, whenever there's knocking on the door/window or anything he takes that seriously but usually dismisses me UNTIL it's something super serious
That's pretty spot on. Lol.

Ah, the old "blanket incident", that one gets ya, everytime. Nothing says "someones living in my house & planning to perform experimental surgeries on my family" like the favorite family movies blanket going missing.
if my wife said she heard creepy noises in our house at night i would simply believe her
I get the not thinking anything of the front door during the day since the wife did search the house after that and found nothing there are plenty of good excuses for that noise. Then later that night hearing doors open and close down stairs during the middle of the night could be paranoia. But when he heard the sliding door slam that is when you start taking it seriously, he heard that and wind isnt moving a sliding door like that.
And unlike Brittany, my wife wouldn't let me simply go back to sleep after creepy noises, bumps, slams, and crashes in the house.
Like every person should!
What’s crazy is he even heard it himself when the sliding door slammed and he STILL chose to ignore it and call her crazy. What a beta male
Strange how a military man could be so dismissive and naive. It's always good to be sure that you and your family are safe instead of just waving the possibility of a dangerous situation away. One thing I have learned in the military, is that you can never be too sure of your safety.
Don’t think you need to be in the military for that honestly. I feel like this borders on common sense. How does your garage being ransacked and doors opening and slamming in the middle of the night not throw the biggest red flag in existence lol
🎯👍
I’m pretty sure Mr.Ballen added that in there for creepy effect. That is typical of horror movies. There’s always someone saying “oh come on, there nothing there”…and then there is.
Yeah dude said the same shit. When my wife thinks she hears something I react right away in the middle of night don’t even ask questions ... just do my job
You would be surprised how many are like that.
This reminds me of a time when I was in high school I had a locker partner and things of ours would come up missing and popping back up in the locker that neither of us were doing. Later on we end up finding out we lost the code to our lock and someone end up finding it and finding out it belonged to our locker too. We changed the lock and ripped up the code. It never happened again we learned our lesson.
Some time this year my mom called me and told me she had lost her keys outside her house and a man returned them to her. I Instantly insisted we go to the store and I changed all her locks same day.
Something like this can easily happen to anyone. Keys can be made so easy and fast. We have to be carful not leave them in the doors of our house or losing them, then you have to change all the locks
literally so quickly, when I had my first copies made I was surprised when I handed it over and within a couple minutes had the copies. And only for a few quid as well! Scary how easy it is
being stalked is one of the scariest things that can ever happen to you and the implications before you truly know what’s happening can feel even worse than knowing. i hope they’re okay now.
I used to be married to someone like James. If he didn't personally experience it, it didn't exist. I even had 2 medical emergencies, one was life-threatening and he refused to take me to the doctor. I ended up in the ER both times, needing surgery one time and needing a specialized procedure done the second time. He said he felt bad that he didn't take me seriously but he never changed afterward. I finally left him for many other reasons but it all came down to a complete lack of respect for me. I'm so happy Brittany was strong and stood her ground. Being dismissed and disregarded is such a dehumanizing feeling. And I truly hope James has learned to respect and trust Brittany.
Surely a form of abuse that
I hope she has left James 🫣.

That would happen growing up in my house between me and my dad. He dismissed every feeling I had and thing I said. I think he might have changed after that but I was 17 when it happened and then when I turned 19 I moved out.
Note to self : If you buy a new house, check all crawl spaces immediately.

Also change the locks .
All spaces, windows, doors... If it can give an entry or can be somewhere something can live, it needs to be checked and cleared. Same deal for apartments. Securing your living space will make or break your sense of safety in a new area.

Note to all: Never EVER, go looking around your house for a potential intruder if you're unarmed. Call the police, lock your bedroom door and wait. If you have children wait in their bedroom with whatever weapon you can think of, if they have multiple bedrooms wait where you can see (but not BE seen) the top of the stairs to protect them.
Truer words 👏
I live in the UK, and I have a legal 0.303 rifle and ammo for target shooting, but it's really not practical for home defence, since the rifle is locked in a gun safe, and the ammo is locked in another safe. However, the chance of a housebreaker in the UK having a firearm is vanishingly small. If they have anything at all, it's likely to be a knife.
So, my defence of choice is the lead-loaded butt of one of my American pool cues. I have the longer reach over someone with a knife, and if they lunge at me, I just break the knife-wielding wrist with the extra speed that motion arm gives me. If they're not armed, they will leave rapidly.
Never be unarmed, got it.
My favorite is people walking around their house going "HELLO? HELLO? ANYBODY HERE? HEEELLLLLO?
And give your kids and family improvised weapons/weapons if you can! They are your only backup!

Why is it up to the husband to investigate? Last I checked, his wife is a grown adult, not a helpless child. The 2nd amendment exists for this very reason. Arm yourself and defend yourself. Don’t rely on anyone else to protect you. You need to learn to protect yourself. Y’all want equality but love to revert back to “the man can risk his own life and die to protect me because I’m a princess who can’t be bothered to do anything for myself teehee 🥰”
@@jasonvargas7564 Jesus christ so if your partner or friend or mother was scared, you'd just tell them it's nothing and get annoyed? She doesn't want him to PROTECT her, she wants him to BELIEVE her. He could've come with her to check the house so that she wasn't alone and scared. This isn't an 'equality' issue you psycho, this woman was scared for her family.
Name calling is juvenile and voids ur point. Be smarter and utilize words instead of attempted putdowns.
I can’t help but feel awful for Brittany being practically gaslit by her husband at the beginning there. I couldn’t imagine not being able to call my father or my fiancé if I heard a noise and needed it checked out… 😔
I don't think gaslit is the right word, but yeah, he definitely tried to downplay her worries and tried making her think she was just paranoid. Like, no.
@@oddgamingcat7442 that's a big part of gaslighting in my experience they try to make you question your own reality which starts the erosion in trusting your gut instincts.

Holy cow, the last story is absolutely terrifying. I can't imagine having someone living in your house like that and then find the documents.
I have been so excited listening to your videos, I need a shower, badly. You are such a great storyteller.
This story really does sound like it's straight out of a horror movie.
for real. this could actually be a movie exactly as described. no need to even embellish.
It really sounds like an encounter with a schizophrenic person.
I have a friend that suffers from that with seven different personalities, and the way the few bits of text is written and how it explains things then goes on tangents about things...
That is exactly how my friend have written to me, not that creepy but the same manners, patterns, and detail.
He's extremely rational and quite clever, but this one time he started talking about how the flames were talking to him and that we were connected some how....
I tried to figure out exactly "who" (what version) I was talking to (3), and trying to explain that obviously there's connections between our personalities, but that's it, random ass connections, me, my friend (1) and you (3), just happen to be quite similar. A couple days later I get this random message that I'm not who I say I am....
Months later without hearing anything from him, he comes back telling me that he got arrested by cops, was sent off to a hospital, after having a major episode he was found shirtless with a knife, trying to fend off people from approaching him yelling at them that he doesn't want to be "taken"... worst part was that my friend (1) blacked out during all this, all he know of the past month was what people have told him.
Two month later I stumbled on an article that talked about this building that caught fire, they had suspected faulty wiring, but found evidence of arson.
two blocks off where my friend lives, the same weekend that he started talking about the flames speaking to him.
@@svampebob007 this is exactly why you should stay tf away from such people. Next time he could pull a knife on you.
would make a good movie actually
Watch the movie "Within"...so good
The husbands dismissal would have greatly angered me! It’s like those scary movies where the wife keeps trying to tell her husband something is wrong and he just doesn’t listen!
This is so true. Throughout the whole story I was thinking what a douchebag the husband was. Why would you marry, start a family and leave your children with someone that is unreliable, hysterical and not trustworthy? I don't think I could be married to a man that thinks so little of me.
Typical man AMIRITE ?
I would hope that he’s learned to listen to his wife now! Although she’s probably so traumatized from this she’s now genuinely paranoid.
I was thinking the same thing. I saw a movie a couple of years ago, don't remember the name, where something similar happened to a couple in their home and the husband was exactly like this. They ended up getting separated and the killer came to the husband's new apartment and murdered him. A few minutes before, the wife came to his apartment to warn him once again and he was just as dismissive and disrespectful to her as he had been all along. I have to say that I did not feel sorry that he was murdered. It was actually a relief to be rid of him.
I hate it when writers pill that crap in "couples" horror movies. The woman is terrified of something and the man is just a big dumb f*** who says something stupid like "it's ok honey it was just your imagination".
James is like the first guy to die in a horror movie... or an NPC in a stealth game! "Must have been the wind..."
Having your house invaded by a stranger is traumatic enough. Having not known they were living among you fora very prolonged period, touching your things, watching your private moments- that’s a huge trauma! It is so difficult to recover from- especially bc others wouldn’t understand. Someone looked into your soul (which had not been opened for them) and destroyed the sanctity of your safe space away from the world. Hard to understand the magnitude if you haven’t been trespassed against.
Also, it’s more than ironic that this dude considered the family ‘rat like’ while he was living in their crawlspace, skittering around, tearing up their things. How delusional must you be to literally live like a rodent in someone else’s home, and think they are rat people. Thank the gods the cops got him.
I was pondering the same thing 😂😂😂😂🤦🏼♂️
Ohhh I get it. He’s the rat and they are the people!
Im sure the gods Forseti, Melqart, Themis, Ma'at, Justicia, Dike and Lugh feel pleased that you gave thanks to all the gods since people tend not to.
The chad crawlspace-inhabitant vs. the ratlike home-infester
Since he called the children "ezequiels" and that's his own name, I wonder if he thought he was ALSO a rat person.
The whole time I was wondering what this had to do with a surgeon. The reveal was horrifying!
Thankyou mr ballen, i have covid atm an it is awful 😞 but listening to you nonstop is helping alot
This Mr. Ballen has, despite all the other strange & horrifying stories you have told, freaked me out the most. It’s the reality of this poor families situation at the time & their obviously knife edge escape, no pun intended. I’ve been a Mr. Ballen fan since he started and for some reason this story scared me more than all the others. Just thinking about all the days and nights that went by where he could have hurt them just gives me the chills.
James seems like a really stellar defender of his family.
No matter how badly I don't want to get out of bed, or if I didn't hear anything myself when my fiance tells me she heard something, or my dog barks in the middle of the night I always get up and check the house. The potential consequences are too grave for me to not do so.

Thank you! I kept thinking “what the hell dude, way to gaslight your partner”. One good thing about my ex, if I ever felt scared or brought something to his attention, he’d check on it, thoroughly. Believe your partners!
I will never understand why after the first two door incidents that they didn't set up camera's in the house. They would have known right away what was going on. When you know you've locked your door and someone opens it, that should have bee a huge red flag from the start. All four of them are so lucky to be alive.
I agree Cameras aren’t that expensive and, they are easy to set up .
Yeah honestly, I'm sorry if this is rude, but some people are just so dumb that they kinda deserve what happens to them. cops should've been called after the first door slam and all locks should've been changed, after all that if you're still so in denial you kinda need to pay your "stupid taxes", it is what it is.
They got lucky this time with their stupidity, but if you find yourself in a similar situation and you act like they did, don't be surprised if the payment for your "stupid tax" is your life, if you hear or suspect anything strange, especially door slamming every night for weeks ( I'm honestly amazed they don't get mugged daily ), lock yourself in a room, take a weapon and call the cops, install surveillance and for the love of god buy any kind of weapon to defend yourself instead of adventuring alone in the middle of the night towards spooky sounds, you're not in a movie, you are gonna get mugged or killed or both
Isn’t it a military house? They probably aren’t allowed to. Plus the husbands a twat so he’d probably never have done that

Tho wasn’t as bad as it sounds cause back in the day we actually spoke face to face and got to know people lol
True story: I was dating a guy in the Navy stationed at Pearl Harbor. He was living in the Naval housing right near the base. One night when I stayed over because I’d been drinking with him, we heard a quick chirp in the house. His bedroom was upstairs, and all the windows and doors had an alarm system attached to it. So, whenever a door or window would open, there would be that quick chirping sound. This included the garage door, front door, sliding glass door, and basically every entrance point downstairs. Being both wartime veterans, we were both very security conscious, and we had DEFINITELY locked all the doors downstairs long before heading to bed. So when we heard that chirp, we knew for sure it couldn’t be anything else. Since we hadn’t fallen asleep yet, we both just looked at each other without a sound. After a few seconds, I just got up to find out what happened because based on his reaction, it wasn’t normal for the chirp to go off for reason. I moved out of bed and down the hall as silently as possible, pausing on the stairs and listening intently. Ultimately, I got downstairs and there was nothing and no one there. All the doors were still locked and nothing has been moved. We didn’t hear that chirp again, but it was definitely totally out of the ordinary and after following up on it with the property management and security company, it remains unexplained.
Side note: Hawaii - ALL the islands - is incredibly supernaturally active. I’ve lived with the paranormal and supernatural all my life, but no matter where I’ve gone, nowhere I’ve been is as saturated and energetically charged as it is back home.
This story NEEDS to be a movie and the profits need to go to that family. The distrust and animosity that put between the married couple due to this could reck a marriage. And I can't imagine how unsafe they feel. I wish them the absolute best because questioning your own reality and finding out a mentally ill person was planning to operate on you is horrifying.
That is an awesome idea!!
Well, this kinda has The Parasite vibe, though this parasite had a different agenda.
Except, if it was made into a movie, then there would be one glaring plot-hole. In fact, I have this same doubt after hearing this whole story. Why did they not install security cameras around the house? Instead of fighting with one another, one of them could have just walked to the hardware store or electronics store and bought a bunch of security cameras and installed them around the house, and the perpetrator would have been easily caught.
@@elbaecc That's not a plot hole. Plenty of people wouldn't get cameras.

@@ragnarflorida totally get that....
Get that feeling also. Work at
a Semiconductor plant in Tx. And we had a lot creepy things happen here. Had some people pass away that still 'work' here.
Worked in a warehouse of a really famous rich family, and they had inbred to keep the money in the family. When a child was born with mental issues, or physical issues they would keep them in the basement of this warehouse. Idk the whole story, but I worked in the basement with one other woman, and we only used a small area in the front of the basement by the elevator and obviously, we only used the elevator to come and go, for breaks, etc.. I went on my lunch break and came back and she asked how the hell did I get past her and used the elevator without her knowing, because usually you worked right by the elevator. I was confused and said I told you that I was leaving for my lunch break? She said,no, you were just sitting on the pallets over there talking to me for the last 10mins. I was like, no, I just came back from break,I was sitting in my car and never came back until right now. After something grabbed her hair later that night, and she couldn't see anything, she never came back to work after our shift. Something followed me home, because my mom said the same thing a few days later. I was working the overnight shift and came back in the morning. My mom asked where the hell did I go? I said I just got back from work? This was before cell phones,so I had to call my job, and get the shift manager to tell my mom that I had been at work all night and punched out at 7am. She said that I had came home, used her bathroom in her room and then sat down on her hope chest and was talking to her around 2-3am.. I never used her bathroom in her room because her husband was sleeping with her, and there was another bathroom close to the front door..the last time something imitated me, my mom said that my youngest son who was only 1 at the time was walking around with his arms raised saying, mama for about 10mins. Idk wtf it was and it still freaks me out over 20yrs later. I've had so many paranormal experiences that's it's not even jarring anymore to me anymore.. I've never interacted or acknowledged them because I feel like they would amp up their activities and harass me even more. I've lived in two houses that demons, whether or not you believe me. Those things I don't fuck with because they KNOW that I can see them somehow and after the first time, I immediately move out because they're strong AF. First one shook a damn 4 story house so hard every door was slamming open and closed because of it. We left the next morning.. F that shit..
That is creepy! The creepiest part was his plan for their family…and the fact that he was watching them so closely without anyone actually seeing him. That would be incredibly hard for someone to get over, I know I would probably need counseling after that! Thank goodness the family is safe from that monster.
