  • This video explains the basic terms used in chartwork on ships. The focus is on the terms of dead reckoning, fix, leeway, set, drft, and rate. The symbols and what they stand for is explained as well.
Previous video on chartwork explained the information available from a paper chart. The link is provided: • Information on Paper C...

It is a good presentation of information. But on a vessel we have wind in knots, how to convert the wind from knots to angle? In other words, how to calculate leeway angle???

sir kindly upload a video about how to find beam bearing and distance to abeam

    First, thank you for everything
Now if I have a compass course, and I have the deviation & the variation, then I have wind effect with known leeway, then at the same time I have a current with known set and rate,
In this case If I was asked to determine the position (EP) when a distinct charted light house is abeam my ship,
    My question is
WHERE should I draw the perpendicular from the Light house?!
I mean, in this case, shall the perpendicular beam be drawn from the light house at a right angle to the corrected course (compass course + Error + leeway = corrected course) OR shall it be drawn at a right angle to the True course (true course = compass course + Error) ?!
I'm sure is this case we should not draw it perpendicular to the C.M.G.
