Anjunabeats and NCM also have systems where you can stream their music. Anjunabeats has a Spotify playlist for Tiwtch, so in theory if you DJ the songs on that list you should be clear. And NCM is a label dedicated to the music not being copyrighted.
I look forward to the day when DJs will be paid by labels for PROMOTING their music, rather than being charged for the same
@@djshockafrica4330 If you don't have a truly massive following, nothing you do has any real value as a promotional tool for labels or artists.
@crossfader this is one of the livestreams, i have been doing this since mid april, getting away with most of the tracks but learning slowly that SME and Warner has the most problems with copyright
facebook.com/djrichardofficial/videos/481312212583863/
you can also check out the other streams on my page. Ive been doing all this without any help. Only problem, my tripod and cameras etc are stuck in my office and cant use them due to the lockdown, so using my mobile phone as a webcam for now
I play no music I looked at all the community guidelines I just get on stream and play some Minecraft. I don’t cuss I don’t do anything that could possibly get my stream taken down but it still does for copyright
Artists and record companies should be happy that people are promoting their music during lockdowns, free promo
Yeah, but it's far more profitable to have total control over it. They don't get paid for the promotion, they get paid by actual sales, or by ads on their officially published videos/streams.
The label don't even get paid that much from ticket sales for concerts anymore, so it's all about driving the audience towards actually buying it, or only consuming the music through the label's own channels on services like Spotify or CZcams.
As many have noted, it is getting extremely hard to make money out of music nowadays, and that goes so much higher for the big labels. They are not losing a few hundred bucks here and there, they are losing millions on the free availability of their music. That is why we have seen such an influx of advertising in mainstream music in recent years. Black Eyed Peas promoting Beats, Lady Gaga mentioning Polaroid in her songs, stuff like that. That is advertising deals the label strike with the companies.
It's not about how far the music reaches, it's about controlling where the music reaches, and how. Sure, it would be better if they could make their money off ticket sales again, but that's just not viable in the 2000's. They decided a long time ago to make their money in the traditional way. That is why the music has such a hard licence, and why they go so hard on copyright strikes. And why basically the entirety of Internet is built around "strike first, apologise later". Or as I like to call it: "Guilty until proven innocent"
they dont care about that .its all about power and restricting r movements , well like co-vid
So, if you think that 'free promo' is worth anything, there's your first mistake. Unless you're a truly huge DJ with a massive following, your worth as a promotional vehicle is zero.
As a DJ, bluntly, I encourage all other DJs to get over any sort of notion they 'deserve' any sort of pass around the systems that keep the people who DJs rely on making money.
I am friends with some amazing, big name producers who I've supported when they tour here. Right now some of them have basically lost the vast majority of their income and are doing it really tough. So telling them they should be happy for worthless exposure is just... incredibly self-centered and rude.
Right
Very rudimentary understanding of why copyrights exists. In most cases, the songwriter is not the artist, and so while the artist may benefit from the "free promo", the songwriter gets zilch from everyone else benefitting from what they created.
This information is really useful, I also like the way he did sign language all the way through.
Haha, we're not sure that's official sign language but at least he's trying!
@@Crossfader I was beginning to wonder....because I don't know if there are many deaf Dj's
Bruh i'm dead laughing rn 🤣
@@djjax2641 👍
@@monty1583 But see, there's many DJs who are tone deaf and have no beatmatching rhythm. Perhaps he considered those people.
I've been posting some mixes (my genre is Techno) and I'll leave the tips that works for me for CZcams:
First and most important rule: As long as you are using registered material, released or due to be released on labels DO NOT MONETISE a DJ mix, it won't be allowed.
When you post a mix with registered and released tracks, the system detect, indentifies the tracks and list them. There are two types of copyright claim that can appear in the list:
The first one, with a yellow sign on the copyright claim list, is the one who allows you to use the track in the video as long as the video is not monetised. The second one with the red sign means you can't use that track at all!
HERE IS HOW I PREVENT strikes on my mixes: THE MICRO MIX!
I record a micromix playing 15 seconds of each track I want to use in the final mix, with usually 1/3 average more tracks for spare (example: if i want to play 20 tracks I micromix 30) and upload it as unlisted or private. CZcams will list me on the copyright claim alert what they identified. Then, as long as I don't monetize I can use the unindentified tracks and the identified tracks with yellow sign there 💁♂️
Sorry for the long text!!!
Cool tip! Thanks
Great idea to figure out what in your set will be flagged before you go through recording a whole mix.
Thanks for this tip. This is a great shout doing a minimix. I have followed your process. I have now got a list of issues ie ''Video cannot be monetized''. My question is, do I have to do anything further here? Am I alright to livestream now for tracks that have a yellow mark beside it or do I have to do anything further to prevnt YT muting or blocking my mix?
how do you know if a track is "registered"

Honestly, I'm loving this channel and i'm placing my full trust to this channel regarding DJing. Great video by the way, loved it, useful and very relevant!! Stay safe DJ Teachers!!!
And if we livestream and we have the downloaded music pack from crossfader, can we use that in livestreams and public events?? Thanks!!
@@markjosephmartinez9170 You sure can, thanks for the kind words and being part of the Crossfader community!
@@Crossfader Thank you very much!! I've been planning on doing gigs with my DDJ 400 for income, well again thanks alot!!
I think the speed and effects definitely helped me out so I will continue to keep that going in my next mix! Thanks for the tips
I'm a House DJ and the tips you use will not work for me. When I play Soulful House, I play music and transition after the breakdown. Sometimes there is 1 breakdown, sometimes more. Since I use Restream, I added FB, CZcams, Twitch, and Mixcloud. I removed FB, and CZcams for they muted and took my video down. I understand the copyright laws but I feel if you purchase the track, that is your track and you should be allowed to play. Besides, how in the hell the producer of the track expects to make money if his or her music is not being played. In the states, House music is not being played on the radio like it is overseas. Especially, during this pandemic, these platforms should want to welcome DJs for we bring more followers and more views to their platform. Who am I kidding? The best way possible is to join a station that is set up so you are able to play any genre under their umbrella. I happen to run 3 different online shows. 2 of them are live stream. I have no issues live streaming with either of them.
This helped me understand this topic more! Very useful video! Thx mate! Cheers :D
Can I somehow swich off the option that I want to earn money on my streams/videos?- where is this option on YT after starting the live stream? Maybe if I switch it off from the start then my live stream will not be taken off?
2) And what about further consequences of using someone's song ex. Can the music label bring any criminal proceedings for a frequent use of their songs? Or the only consequence is that video is muted/or deleted by youtube or sometimes the channel is deleted? I heard some guy's story that he got sued for using artists songs in his YT sets but dunno if its true. Can someone help with that law case?
I'm in the process of setting up an online stream for Facebook and your final tips were very useful for me I'm glad I watched your video before I started thanks mate 😎
Thank you been digging for this for a while.
Great advice guys! Use of effects definitely helps stay on for longer with less muting 👍🏻
I absolutely agree with the reasons copyright exists, and I like the way you have discussed it here. I'm hoping to live stream a couple of sets on what would have been Glastonbury Saturday for me, (no copyright issues DJing at Glastonbury!) and I'm feeling a bit gloomy about my chances of getting through a set without being muted/stopped now. I play a hugely eclectic mix of music, not any particular genre, and do play a lot of rarer tracks... guess I'll just have to see how it goes. Bon chance copines. 💖
I have been playing NCS on my live streams when they are allowing it. And they shut down my stream for playing their songs.
Solid detailed explanation, thanks Holland!
Hi there. I'm putting on a few livestreams consisting of acoustic performances for a university project. When we did our first CZcams livestream a few days ago, the stream got taken down after the first song, I assume for copyright violations. I'm planning to host another livestream today, as this time the artist is going to be playing two original songs. The third song they wish to play is a cover, but is in a different key to the original. Do you think that CZcams will accept this, or is it likely that the livestream will get taken down again?
I've been doing FB live mixes every Sat night for the last month, playing vinyl for between 3-5hrs each time, only been kicked off once so I just went live again and played for another 2hrs, no issues after that... My main tip is to play relatively unknown, underground, specialist (for want of a better word) music, this seems to be ok and it's only after the event that a few tracks will be muted for people trying to listen again. I have played golden era Jungle/D&B sets (stay away from anything Bukem-related!), deep house, techno, breaks, electro, mixture of old and new stuff, but none of it on big labels, no 'classic' tracks and most of it not freely available digitally so less chance of algorithms detecting it. Not saying this is foolproof at all, but this has been my experience. Good luck people and stay safe... ❤💛💚
That is the key. If you play anything owned by Warner Brothers or Sony, you won't be on long.
If I have a tab showing what song is playing does this mean it cannot get copy righted?
Would you suggest pausing the video? I have mine set to fade the music when I speak-- is that enough to know the computer off from recognizing the copyrighted song I'm streaming in my YT live?
I've talked over tracks and they've still muted me so that doesn't work. Pretty my voice is not copyrighted
Appreciate the insight ❤
Thanks for breaking this down!
I've got a nice framed picture I bought from Amazon in my streaming room. If the picture in question appears on the stream, does it qualify as copyright?
Will I get a copyright strike on my CZcamsChannel if I do a Las Vegas Livestream on Fremont because there is a lot of music
Thank you for the vid, I have a question. The Youth Group in my church want to do a concert singing main stream music and stream it via FB Live, Does anyone think the algoriddim will pick it up?
Bery useful tips. Thanks a lot
Fantastic video and advice. Thank you! How about adding a drum track sample to each track played, or any other palatable sample?
Great tips, will consider these.
this was helpful ! loved the 'noone wants to listen to alvin and the chipmonks version of rihanna'
About to mix 3 or 4 big name hip hop tracks in my next mix and already have plans on using 2-6 bpm faster tempo as well as the slip roll effect for the first quarter of each bar (actually sounds pretty cool)...I'm pretty positive this will make it undetectable, as I've heard the algorithm needs 2 bars in order to detect a track. Just wondering if anybody else has experience with mixing big name, modern popular tracks like Drake for example and how have you bypassed the system?
So lets say I pitch down music so it can be played on stream. Is it changed enough to be called a "cover" if someone were to manually claim it?
From what I've done is that when you make a mix and you want to put it on facebook, facebook will scout your mix and notify you that there are song that are due to copyright, but it does give you the option to let facebook automatically mute just that segment then return to audio that is allowed. Not sure if youtube does the the same. I know on youtube you can search their database and it will tell you if it's ok to play or not. Itll let you see what country it will and wont play. Hope this help as one of your tips.
kinda would be nice if there was an option to totally skip any muted section so there isn't silence in the mix
Does it make a difference if you're not Monetizing your mixes? I have two mixes that I still have up. I don't know if it's bc I'm not trying to make money from it.
Hi can I get copyright strike for streaming a live game ?? For example if I go watch a cricket match
What I don't understand is how are the big DJs or international DJs getting away with playing on FB and other platforms? It seems like the smaller DJs are getting hit or left behind. I guess they don't see us promoting their music for others to hear!. What stops anybody from playing at an outdoor picnic and playing out?! No one shuts that down...Thanks for your informative video. Great tips!
Hi, I have been trying to sing my own songs and I am getting glitched out. My songs are copyrighted to my distributer distrokid for youtube. Would they be considered as not mine.
Great advice bro!👍🏽👍🏽
If the song is 120bpm and you speed it up to 140mph you will avoid all copyright mutes.
Yeah be trick someone told me was to record a mix of a whole playlist, and upload it to CZcams as a private video. Then see what tracks that get pulled up for copyright
Then just take those tracks out of your livestream playlists. It’s effort but worth it
Hello buddy, great video, but how come that LIVE stream radios on YoutTube can play copywrite musics?
How come i see alot of reuploads of videos from fight interviews etc and they dont seem to have copyright. Is it just for songs mainly?
Always great advise
Another tip is to type in the artist and title into CZcamss music policy's website (Google search) if nothing shows up on the search result you should be good to play on Facebook, I tried it the other night and was not muted or cut off.
Thank you a lot !!
this helped , thanks 👍
hello, is there a setting that avoids youtube from recording my live stream? i dont want to keep them.
My live stream says "this stream has stopped because we detected copyright audio or video or because we..." Idk is that normal?
This is so helpful! #remixes A question I had I didn't know about! Thanks!
Appreciate your help the problem I'm having is delivery services leaving their windows open and playing music then heard over the livestream then automatically gets a strike
Really good info here!
Glad you think so! Thanks :)
Not a DJ, just wantd to know about music in the backround. But you nailed this video, even for a yank like me!!! haha
Can i ask you a question ?? I get Copyright strike in my livestream
And is that the reason why i can't go back to live streaming ??
curious i am a Video DJ does this also apply to the video content as well?
Great video thanks! Have you heard that adding vpn works on avoiding copyright problems on live streams?
Can you tell me the name of the song which you've used for the intro, please?? 0:13 - 0:15
FB or YT should be a offering a license payment for your livestreaming music you load the tracks you will be using for your livestream get a price pay and now you can play the stream with no problems sounds good ?
U didn’t help
For me he did so whatever don’t be rude pls ❤
Lol
Does anyone know what to do if you are live streaming and it stops because of copyright? And how to live stream again because it says i cannot.
Instagram should charge a monthly fee for Dj’s who want to stream live maybe 10$ or 20$ to cover copy right cost it’s a win win
Facebook/Instagram is not in charge of copyrights. There is nothing to do for the moment
Licensing of that is insanely expensive, add a couple of zeros behind that number and you might get a more accurate prive
The expense is to the platform, and can be divided among many creators, similar to a radio station that pays broadcast license fees and broadcasts several different shows throughout the day.
I was thinking the same exact thing! I just got kicked out of Instagram too.
Okay so if I am just listening to music off my computer and live streaming and the music can be heard is that a no no?
dragonforce musics keep on getting muted on twitch idk how to unmute it i always keep on getting copyright issues
Thanks!
I tried your method and still get blocked only for few seconds or how long they decided to block the recording, it’s hit & miss with any social media stream & I just discovered Mixcloud live from phil morse as he discovered it, they charge for their service at $15 per month and all Artists get paid, without you getting blocked, Facebook should do the same
Mixcloud's licensing structure is different to Facebook's at the moment but we might see a shift in the industry now Mixcloud are here. We shall see!
Thank you very very much!!!!
Very useful tips.... cheer Holland
Glad it was helpful! Anytime at all :)
There needs to be an affordable Incensing option for small channels/stations to be able to legally play music. Not something that costs 40 times what these small channels would make. or something that is a flat fee so those channels at least know the numbers they need to hit to make it happen.
looks like mixcloud is on it.. my feed has been popping all day
You'd really want it to scale based on your audience size. Sort of like how online companies that need servers for their services usually rent them from Amazon, who just automatically scale up the service as more people use the service.
That'd probably be a bit for the big names with big audiences... But also, more reason for them to work with say, a club or promotion group who already have a license.
This is where the labels come in right? Like it's their decision to strike popular music and they refuse to make it affordable for individual use.
Amazing video bro
Thank you!
Does anybody know if registering your set with BMI live will fix the issue?
Use a burner YT account to do a rehearsal set. Then repeat the set on your main channel if you don't have any issues with strikes. If you get striked on your burner account you don't have to worry about getting your CZcams banned and can change your song selection accordingly until you know you have a legit set that won't get taken down.
Another tip: use your own music or use royalty-free tracks.
I know this is only a very partial solution. I guess you need a mixture of methods.
Ok cool , paying for copyright musics starts from £35 a month , it’s too much for small businesses like mine ...I’m happy to pay max £15 a month any advise ?
I don't understand how the bigger djs never get kicked off of livestreams there must be something they are doing with Facebook to avoid it?
Usefull thanks bro
Can songs in youtube get copy righted?
Thanks🙏🙏
I'm sad, I wanted to livestream myself playing the piano, but it got taken down after 14 minutes of playing songs by ear
I noticed some dj sets has a traclist made by CZcams. How this feature works?
Thats when CZcams's systems work out the songs and credit the monetisation to the artists.
These are useful tips and there are many ways around to get music playing without copyright issues! Since I produce my own music it's different to a certain extent. When I do play other music I have to make sure it's not well know (commercial I guess). It takes times to make those certain moves.
I wanna hear Alvin and the chipmunks singing Rhianna! Lol. Great tips thank u
Haha it's squeaky and annoying trust us!
Thank you!
@crossfader sorry I just have a question. if I play instrumental (karaoke version) songs in the background and sing with it in a live stream while playing games via Twitch or periscope or such sites, could they ban my account?
I think you'd get away with that for the most part!
@@Crossfader great! thank you very much for the reply.
Love his voice.
Thanks
I know that playing the noise of you recording in a bar would not be the best sound to use.but what if you made it sound like you were playing to a live crowd??? would that work.and of course I don’t know if it can be done.lol???
Very informative, thank you. Slightly different scenario: if I want to live stream someone's wedding ceremony that is playing music in the background to their private fb page or private YT channel, do the copyright laws still apply? Last thing I want is their stream being muted half way through! Thanks in advance
hi there, curious to find out too?
Master tempo off won’t be easy for many DJ's to mix fast out there that’s a technique in its own right
To any old vinyl DJ that’s natural lol
Another tip is using the fader to juggle between records fast in the mix , again old vinyl djs use to do this like Slipmat , EZ etc
Am i allowed to play songs of the Crossfader Music Pack in my live streams?
They should all work just fine :)
The government should take away these copyright law temporally because of everything that’s going. Music 🎶 should be play with freedom because it is keeping people alive by distracting them from what going on right now. The government took away law temporarily for trucks drivers to drive more then they should to save people’s lives so they should do the same for us dj or people who are streaming music on the web. Right now we are all Locked 🔒 up✌️
Wow I was thinking about the same thing the other day
I think Music copyright should also be updated globally to better function in a global community, not broke up and incompatible like it is currently.
Awesome comment copyn and paste this on other channels on this topic!
Jeremie Bell 🙏✌️
Ron Laws 🙏✌️
it all depends on the owner of the content point blank some songs are ok to play some get you a warning some get you blocked
this its why I use Periscope, Bigo, Liveme on those apps look it up just saying there are few DJ's are doing it on those apps soo just saying check it out do your research on these 3 apps I talk about. Funk Up Salute Peace everybody
A mate of mine had a mix the other day and he said, that if you start the stream an hour before you start actually playing (have an hour of silence at the beginning) then the stream filters do not work, or rather have finished screening. Does this work?
Good question! I would like to know that too. I do know that the 30 seconds of silence-trick on soundcloud din't work like it used to, but this is years ago before I moved to mixcloud. So I can imagine that the modern YT algoritm could find a way to bypass those 60 minutes.. :-/
Twitch seems to be a good choice, the only thing they mute as far as i've seen is the VODs which you can turn off. the live stream as far as i've seen and heard remains untouched, something about copyright live content/performances vs. On Demand.
Yes, twitch probably pays PRS/ZAiKS or whatever the system is called in your country, but the licensing is only for streaming, so for VODs they have to mute them.
@Techeetah #69 obce never seen people having problems with that
Yeah same. I just worry about random Twitch shut downs that do happen tomorrow. You kinda need more of a crowd for Twitch to even notice you in the first place, but it's definitely a thing.
THANK YOU
The other day I saw a twitch streamer playing a commercial music, but it sounded kinda off like it was played in a different key signature. I wonder if that is working.
That works on Facebook. Change the key by a step and it doesn't pick it up.
A good test is to play a song and shazam it. It will find it. Change the key and it doesn't pick it up. If you find one it does pick up, don't use it
thanks man
Word!
How about when am livestreaming a video from a television?
1:25 AM 1/7/2021 I wanted to play pandora internet radio in the background while streaming but no.
I was tried too many time live stream psl match but unfortunate all time video blocked or copyright
Now that I think about it I wonder if unlocking the key so when I adjust a track to be 2-3 beats per minute faster or slower if that's enough of a pitch change to fool the algorithm. If you don't shift the speed too much the pitch doesn't go too outta control
We haven't found it works, not unless you majorly change it. Sadly when you do that, the audience's experience is also ruined
the only way to almost get away with live stream is change the key in of the songs or high pitch that makes hard for them to track a song
