      Anjunabeats and NCM also have systems where you can stream their music. Anjunabeats has a Spotify playlist for Tiwtch, so in theory if you DJ the songs on that list you should be clear. And NCM is a label dedicated to the music not being copyrighted.

    Artists and record companies should be happy that people are promoting their music during lockdowns, free promo

    • @morphman86
      @morphman86 Před 4 lety +21

      Yeah, but it's far more profitable to have total control over it. They don't get paid for the promotion, they get paid by actual sales, or by ads on their officially published videos/streams.
      The label don't even get paid that much from ticket sales for concerts anymore, so it's all about driving the audience towards actually buying it, or only consuming the music through the label's own channels on services like Spotify or CZcams.
      As many have noted, it is getting extremely hard to make money out of music nowadays, and that goes so much higher for the big labels. They are not losing a few hundred bucks here and there, they are losing millions on the free availability of their music. That is why we have seen such an influx of advertising in mainstream music in recent years. Black Eyed Peas promoting Beats, Lady Gaga mentioning Polaroid in her songs, stuff like that. That is advertising deals the label strike with the companies.
      It's not about how far the music reaches, it's about controlling where the music reaches, and how. Sure, it would be better if they could make their money off ticket sales again, but that's just not viable in the 2000's. They decided a long time ago to make their money in the traditional way. That is why the music has such a hard licence, and why they go so hard on copyright strikes. And why basically the entirety of Internet is built around "strike first, apologise later". Or as I like to call it: "Guilty until proven innocent"

    • @qirex9193
      @qirex9193 Před 4 lety +15

      So, if you think that 'free promo' is worth anything, there's your first mistake. Unless you're a truly huge DJ with a massive following, your worth as a promotional vehicle is zero.
      As a DJ, bluntly, I encourage all other DJs to get over any sort of notion they 'deserve' any sort of pass around the systems that keep the people who DJs rely on making money.
      I am friends with some amazing, big name producers who I've supported when they tour here. Right now some of them have basically lost the vast majority of their income and are doing it really tough. So telling them they should be happy for worthless exposure is just... incredibly self-centered and rude.

    I've been posting some mixes (my genre is Techno) and I'll leave the tips that works for me for CZcams:
    First and most important rule: As long as you are using registered material, released or due to be released on labels DO NOT MONETISE a DJ mix, it won't be allowed.
    When you post a mix with registered and released tracks, the system detect, indentifies the tracks and list them. There are two types of copyright claim that can appear in the list:
    The first one, with a yellow sign on the copyright claim list, is the one who allows you to use the track in the video as long as the video is not monetised. The second one with the red sign means you can't use that track at all!
    HERE IS HOW I PREVENT strikes on my mixes: THE MICRO MIX!
    I record a micromix playing 15 seconds of each track I want to use in the final mix, with usually 1/3 average more tracks for spare (example: if i want to play 20 tracks I micromix 30) and upload it as unlisted or private. CZcams will list me on the copyright claim alert what they identified. Then, as long as I don't monetize I can use the unindentified tracks and the identified tracks with yellow sign there 💁‍♂️
    Sorry for the long text!!!

    I'm a House DJ and the tips you use will not work for me. When I play Soulful House, I play music and transition after the breakdown. Sometimes there is 1 breakdown, sometimes more. Since I use Restream, I added FB, CZcams, Twitch, and Mixcloud. I removed FB, and CZcams for they muted and took my video down. I understand the copyright laws but I feel if you purchase the track, that is your track and you should be allowed to play. Besides, how in the hell the producer of the track expects to make money if his or her music is not being played. In the states, House music is not being played on the radio like it is overseas. Especially, during this pandemic, these platforms should want to welcome DJs for we bring more followers and more views to their platform. Who am I kidding? The best way possible is to join a station that is set up so you are able to play any genre under their umbrella. I happen to run 3 different online shows. 2 of them are live stream. I have no issues live streaming with either of them.

    Can I somehow swich off the option that I want to earn money on my streams/videos?- where is this option on YT after starting the live stream? Maybe if I switch it off from the start then my live stream will not be taken off?
    2) And what about further consequences of using someone's song ex. Can the music label bring any criminal proceedings for a frequent use of their songs? Or the only consequence is that video is muted/or deleted by youtube or sometimes the channel is deleted? I heard some guy's story that he got sued for using artists songs in his YT sets but dunno if its true. Can someone help with that law case?

    I absolutely agree with the reasons copyright exists, and I like the way you have discussed it here. I'm hoping to live stream a couple of sets on what would have been Glastonbury Saturday for me, (no copyright issues DJing at Glastonbury!) and I'm feeling a bit gloomy about my chances of getting through a set without being muted/stopped now. I play a hugely eclectic mix of music, not any particular genre, and do play a lot of rarer tracks... guess I'll just have to see how it goes. Bon chance copines. 💖

    Hi there. I'm putting on a few livestreams consisting of acoustic performances for a university project. When we did our first CZcams livestream a few days ago, the stream got taken down after the first song, I assume for copyright violations. I'm planning to host another livestream today, as this time the artist is going to be playing two original songs. The third song they wish to play is a cover, but is in a different key to the original. Do you think that CZcams will accept this, or is it likely that the livestream will get taken down again?

    I've been doing FB live mixes every Sat night for the last month, playing vinyl for between 3-5hrs each time, only been kicked off once so I just went live again and played for another 2hrs, no issues after that... My main tip is to play relatively unknown, underground, specialist (for want of a better word) music, this seems to be ok and it's only after the event that a few tracks will be muted for people trying to listen again. I have played golden era Jungle/D&B sets (stay away from anything Bukem-related!), deep house, techno, breaks, electro, mixture of old and new stuff, but none of it on big labels, no 'classic' tracks and most of it not freely available digitally so less chance of algorithms detecting it. Not saying this is foolproof at all, but this has been my experience. Good luck people and stay safe... ❤💛💚

Not sure if youtube does the the same. I know on youtube you can search their database and it will tell you if it's ok to play or not. Itll let you see what country it will and wont play. You'd really want it to scale based on your audience size. Sort of like how online companies that need servers for their services usually rent them from Amazon, who just automatically scale up the service as more people use the service.
      That'd probably be a bit for the big names with big audiences... But also, more reason for them to work with say, a club or promotion group who already have a license.

      This is where the labels come in right? Like it's their decision to strike popular music and they refuse to make it affordable for individual use.

    Does anybody know if registering your set with BMI live will fix the issue?

  • @deejayopl
    @deejayopl Před 3 lety +1

    Use a burner YT account to do a rehearsal set. Then repeat the set on your main channel if you don't have any issues with strikes. If you get striked on your burner account you don't have to worry about getting your CZcams banned and can change your song selection accordingly until you know you have a legit set that won't get taken down.

    I know this is only a very partial solution. I guess you need a mixture of methods.

    These are useful tips and there are many ways around to get music playing without copyright issues! Since I produce my own music it's different to a certain extent. When I do play other music I have to make sure it's not well know (commercial I guess). It takes times to make those certain moves.

    Very informative, thank you. Slightly different scenario: if I want to live stream someone's wedding ceremony that is playing music in the background to their private fb page or private YT channel, do the copyright laws still apply? Last thing I want is their stream being muted half way through! Thanks in advance

    Master tempo off won’t be easy for many DJ's to mix fast out there that’s a technique in its own right
    To any old vinyl DJ that’s natural lol
    Another tip is using the fader to juggle between records fast in the mix , again old vinyl djs use to do this like Slipmat , EZ etc

    The government should take away these copyright law temporally because of everything that’s going. Music 🎶 should be play with freedom because it is keeping people alive by distracting them from what going on right now. The government took away law temporarily for trucks drivers to drive more then they should to save people’s lives so they should do the same for us dj or people who are streaming music on the web. Right now we are all Locked 🔒 up✌️

    A mate of mine had a mix the other day and he said, that if you start the stream an hour before you start actually playing (have an hour of silence at the beginning) then the stream filters do not work, or rather have finished screening. Does this work?

    • @StanfordtheArtist
      @StanfordtheArtist Před 4 lety

      Good question! I would like to know that too. I do know that the 30 seconds of silence-trick on soundcloud din't work like it used to, but this is years ago before I moved to mixcloud. So I can imagine that the modern YT algoritm could find a way to bypass those 60 minutes.. :-/

  • @RonLaws

    Twitch seems to be a good choice, the only thing they mute as far as i've seen is the VODs which you can turn off. the live stream as far as i've seen and heard remains untouched, something about copyright live content/performances vs. On Demand.

    • @Midaspl
      @Midaspl Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, twitch probably pays PRS/ZAiKS or whatever the system is called in your country, but the licensing is only for streaming, so for VODs they have to mute them.

    • @nelly11772

      That works on Facebook. Change the key by a step and it doesn't pick it up.
      A good test is to play a song and shazam it. It will find it. Change the key and it doesn't pick it up. If you find one it does pick up, don't use it

    Now that I think about it I wonder if unlocking the key so when I adjust a track to be 2-3 beats per minute faster or slower if that's enough of a pitch change to fool the algorithm. If you don't shift the speed too much the pitch doesn't go too outta control

    • @Crossfader
      @Crossfader  Před 4 lety +3

  • @ANGELODEMONIO8
    @ANGELODEMONIO8 Před 4 lety +1

    the only way to almost get away with live stream is change the key in of the songs or high pitch that makes hard for them to track a song
