I'm a 24 year old DJ and every time I'm out in the club DJing and I put on some swing music from this era, people lose it on the dance floor! Love this music.
Im 22 and love this. Wish Hollywood would make more movies like this. There will be no one like them again. They are angels. Could we stop insulting Ginger or Fred? What make them special are them together. Their movies would have not been the same without each other. Ginger did good dancing without having much training when they started out. It goes without saying Fred was amazing dancer.
These two are golden! I wish so much to have been alive when Fred was.. I was born long after he died... Fred Astaire is my absolute favourite!!! I love everything he does!!!
I love all of the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers films, but the dancing, the music, the lyrics, and the jokes in "Follow the Fleet" make it my very favorite.
Nothing Like these Two... Memories that No one can replace look at this Dancing with the Star's these two had it down to the T... No Mistakes! All Free No edits. No nothing.. There the Kind I would Love to have been there to see in person.. I felt I was there when I saw these two do a Movie together.. Thanks for the Memories I know there both Dancing In Heaven..
I've meet Gingers in Paris when she was doing a show .She was nearly sixty nine at the time She was not a great singer but she had the star quality something you can' define a real pro and a very charming lady . anice souvenir for me Jmb
Fred and Ginger at their best....what a routine full of energy, and they show they're having fun doing it as difficult and exhausting as it must be. Delightful!
Ginger and Fred are mesmerizing dancers and their skill and timing is astounding. They always cheer me up....I wish I could dance like Ginger she was extrodinary.
@UnholyxBlood here here. I'm 20, but what you bring up is a beat we can all dance to. unfortunately for people like us, it takes a great deal of the population to make it a good generation. but so long as I see someone else out there every now and then that stands for what's right, I smile with hope. =)
Ginger Rogers (Virginia McMath) was fabulous. She was the perfect dance partner for Fred Astaire in the mid-1930s and early-1940s. What they had, above all else, was that elusive quality called "Chemistry" when they danced. It's very, very rare, and it's why they're so great together. She deserves much, much credit for her movie work and is (was) truly one of the greats. Just my opinion. Peace.
this is magic, it is simply the most amazing thing ever created!!!!!! fred and ginger are artist beyond anything!!!!! i love dace and these people soooo much!
im 17 years old n i feel like i was born in the wrong era too!! luv the old classic movies and music!!! friends tell me that i don't belong in this generation lol
It was also Ginger amazing acting that mad their movies so wonderful. She acted the way girls felt about Fred. Lets not forget their amazing chemistry.
I am 14 years old, and I can't stop watching these things. I started checking out Fred Astaire and Ginger Roger's videos in the past few days, but I ABSOLUTELY love them. I can't stop dancing around the house :)
Ginger made the difference with Fred. Everyone should be thanking her for her great contribution to the dance world because without her there just might not have been a Fred Astaire and wouldn't that had been a crime. There still would have been a Ginger Rogers. We should be grateful we also have Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire together. They are magical in dance, expression, and dialogue. They are so witty and comical together. They play off each other with supreme perfection.
Well, no. Not as far as the dancing is concerned. Astair took the lead. That she was able to follow wherever he led is amazing. and tribute to her great strength as a performer which was her boldness.
Astaire did the choregraphy and his little magic trick which made him stand out was that he frequently allowed his feet to be very slightly behind the beat. This gave his dancing a tension as you almost subconsciously thought he would not catch up. That is genius. And some studio executive dismissed him in his audition with comments like "...can dance a bit".
This young man, who seems to have flexible bones , and this young lady who matches him step for step, are unique in the annals of film. Almost a million views so far. Keep coming people, and keep this fabulous performance alive for future generations.
Or the fact that they probably rehearsed for like 18 hours a day :-) I was in a moviemuseum in London and they had one of Freds outfits, and I could've worn it was a boy's suit! So tiny!! Even Gingers dress that was right next to it looked big! I couldn't tear myself away from that little piece of clothing :-)
Hollywood hasn't cared about quality movie-making in ages. Moguls used to think, "What will entertain the massses?" Now it's, "What will make the most money?" And who cares if it's crap? Whatever happened to Mayer, Cohn, Zanuck, etc.? They cared about what their studios put out. Where are the Freds, Gingers, Genes, Cyds, Jimmy Stewarts, etc. of today? I love old movies, you don't need special effects, violence, obscenity, etc. to make a decent film!
LOVE fred astaire. LOVE LOVE LOVE him. I have an original copy of Follow the Fleet and it's a great movie. Not my favorite of Fred's but it's still one of the best. This song is a lot of fun too.
There is so much joy in so many of there routines together. In their romantic ballroom numbers, they look like they are in love. None of Aistaire's other partners on screen capture the same spirit. Cyd Charisse came closest in combining the dancing with acting a person in a particular situation. I've loved F & G since I first saw them in Shall We Dance on the Million Dollar Movie in NYC in 1957.
I agree with you on Fred and Cyd Charrise, and Fred and Judy Garland were great together in Easter Parade. Judy's big amazing talent was her singing, and Ginger's was dancing, so Ginger was Fred's best dancing partner of all. They were both amazing dancers in every film they starred together in
I like the movie "Follow The Fleet". I think Fred & Ginger made a dynamic couple. They got their start in the movie "Flying Down To Rio" The majority of the sailors you see in the movie clip came from the US Naval station Long Beach.
I have this on DVD as well as the other nine musicals they did together. Fred & Ginger had no competition. Their worked made huge revenues for RKO. They basically saved the studio from going bankrupt. Ginger was also making other movies all throughout her partnership with Fred Astaire. Movie stars like this don't exist anymore. I don't think today's generation of directors and producers, not to mention audience , cares much about large scale musicals.
I would hardly put Mayer into any class of people who cared for others. If ever there was an epitome of someone who cared only for himself, it was Mayer. He was a tyrant, and almost any credible book on Old Hollywood history will back this up. Who we have to thank for the wonderful gems of the past are the directors, the crew, and the actors themselves.
So fluid - they make it look so easy. Makes me want to break out in dance myself except I can't dance and now I'm depressed about it. (Sigh...) Oh well - I'll just have to dance vicariously through Ginger.
I read in the 'official' biography that Fred hated Ginger and that they only had a working relationship. I don't believe a word of that because there are so many moments where you can see them having great fun together. And the smiles are not acted, they really are enjoying themselves. They were such a beautiful couple.
This was in an era when dancing was dancing and music was music. Both were SENSATIONAL! But, in this day and age, how the hell are you supposed to dance to RAP???
Ginger and her mother were really hard-core about her outfits, demanding particular shades of color even though the movies were black & white. I think they were right.
Cute scene, I love it. But in real life, if you & your partner ever found yourselves in a dance contest against Fred & Ginger . . . best to just sit down!
@ladidacow1 The movie where that musical number comes from is Shall We Dance, and it's called Let's Call The Whole Thing Off. It's not actually in the snow though. I suggest that you see it, because they do an absolutely incredible dance in roller skates straight afterwards.
@lotrlovermr Though potatoes do get mentioned as well in the lyrics of "A Fine Romance," the number in the snow in "Swing Time." The line is, "We should be like a couple of hot tomatoes/But you're as cold as yesterday's mashed potatoes." The marvelous Dorothy Fields came up with that.
Fred Astaire was a huge international star before he came to RKO. He and his sister Adele were so famous, the Royal Family and Winston Churchill were big fans of theirs. Yes, Fred and Ginger had a great partnership, but he had a 27 year career with his sister. They were huge Broadway stars, they made records, sold sheet music and they endorsed products for major companies, especially Adele. When she married a rich Lord and moved to a castle is Ireland, he came to Hollywood to make films.
Lots of appreciatons for Ginger out here, and good for her, there should be. Astaire was the master of Space and Time, and all of his partners were remarkable... but notice how we never talk about "Fred and Cyd?" "Fred and Eleanor?" "Fred and Barrie?" Ginger had something that the others didn't... and she had it, especially, with Fred. (And not just the dancing scenes. The banter between them could kill.) She also had an illustrious acting career that the others never really did. Hmmmmmm...

What a great dancing pair. This episode was trully wonderful. We don't get stars or talent like this anymore. Thanks for posting.!
These two are golden!
I wish so much to have been alive when Fred was.. I was born long after he died...
Fred Astaire is my absolute favourite!!! I love everything he does!!!
People like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers should never die
Never!💖
Why can't we have movies like this nowadays? My favorite of all of the Astaire-Rogers films is "Swing Time."
I was born too late...
MysticDestroyer13 Same here! Or maybe we were born then & came back for another round! 🤷🏻♀️
I love all of the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers films, but the dancing, the music, the lyrics, and the jokes in "Follow the Fleet" make it my very favorite.
This is true heaven ... watching these two - they were pure magic !

Never seen these two in action before. I can now say I am a bonafied top fan.
I adore Ginger!
Dancing doesn't get much better than these two. Great video!
It doesn't get better than this... Fred and Ginger...WOW!!!
Fred and Ginger at their best....what a routine full of energy, and they show they're having fun doing it as difficult and exhausting as it must be. Delightful!

God these two make me smile every time I watch them.
They were just amazing together. They just were in sync!

Super dupper- built-in metronome amazing: the energy, synochrony & perfection😚

FRED AND GINGER ARE SIMPLY MAGICAL!
75 Years of letting yourself go, of facing the music and dancing.
What more can you ask for?
My god...Im freaking 16 looking at these freaking classics...If i could only move like THAT...
Love this! one of my favorite dances they did together! This is one of my favorite movies. I love Ginger's outfit so cute!
I'm 17 years old and watching all these videos of Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire just makes me think that I was born in the wrong decade >_
Fred Astaire is just a GOD.
Ginger is a perfect partner.
These two know how to dance.
I love classic movies like these. This one is one of my favorites!
Fred Astaire is just the cutest sailor I've ever seen...Love this danceroutine...and everyone else they ever did too of course :-D
i love the dances, and i love the fact a live band is set up behind them!
Nice to see clips from movies where you have to have real talent to actual star in.
Astaire did the choregraphy and his little magic trick which made him stand out was that he frequently allowed his feet to be very slightly behind the beat. This gave his dancing a tension as you almost subconsciously thought he would not catch up. That is genius.

what a body Fred has. Dancers are beautiful people.
Incredible dance number-- for sure...
Icons of the cinema
This young man, who seems to have flexible bones , and this young lady who matches him step for step, are unique in the annals of film. Almost a million views so far. Keep coming people, and keep this fabulous performance alive for future generations.
moving perfection that takes your breath away, you have to "Let Yourself Go" when watching this beauty! Many thanks for posting this clip
Now THIS is 'dancing with the STARS'!
They never lose their magic… or the exquisite joy!
Or the fact that they probably rehearsed for like 18 hours a day :-) I was in a moviemuseum in London and they had one of Freds outfits, and I could've worn it was a boy's suit! So tiny!! Now that is how it's done! A dance-off against Fred and Ginger? Haha um, just give up guys, they're kind of unbeatable! :)
It's an honor to have been alive at the same time as Astaire, Basie, Mencken, and Billie Holiday.
Simply magical......

Perfection. Nothing today comes remotely close to this. Fred and Ginger were incomparable.
i really admire Ginger Rogers She had to do all the same steps as Fred Astaire but often backwards and in high heels!
who here is a teenager like me but wishes some aspects of ''that time'' were still here today :)
I love this!!!!👍👍👍👍👍💖💖💖💖
Simply great. Almost as from another planet...
LOVE IT!!!😁 My thanks for posting the best thing since sliced bread!😉 To: Fred & Ginger, the immortal duo!😚
They made dancing look so easy...but I know it is not! They were brilliant!
Dancer is correct. Backward steps are done generally in ballroom style. What we see here is dancing in parallel or mirror image.
Great Irving Berlin song. Fred & Ginger are THE GREATEST!! Thanks for posting.
LOVE fred astaire. LOVE LOVE LOVE him. I have an original copy of Follow the Fleet and it's a great movie. Not my favorite of Fred's but it's still one of the best. This song is a lot of fun too.
In spanish: dos fenómenos del séptimo arte.Nunca igualados.Dos figuras que dominan el baile y serán recordados por siempre jamás.
Fred and ginger were the most talented dancers ever! Unlike today's dance stars or shows where the dances are so quick or have no class.
There is so much joy in so many of there routines together. In their romantic ballroom numbers, they look like they are in love. None of Aistaire's other partners on screen capture the same spirit. I think I saw the "roger rabbit" and the "kid and play". Hip hop dancers must love Astaire too. LOL!
Класс! Потрясающе отточенные движения!
Thanks for the post. Saw this one al the way through Saturday night--an absolute gem. Just wish Astaire and Rogers had ten made more movies to enjoy!
I would hardly put Mayer into any class of people who cared for others. If ever there was an epitome of someone who cared only for himself, it was Mayer. Both great talent.
They don't make movies like this anymore. Bummer.
Love this number :D It's such a great choreography... fred and ginger are magical
no one would ever replace fred and ginger....in any lifetime
Brilliant.....never gets old!
what a great pair! the best!
did those other couples really think they stood a chance? XD Fred and Ginger Rock!
Such Talent .
Wow ! once there were real performers ! once there was music , once there were real artists

Whether true or not about him hating her, any halfway decent performer can fake absolutely adoring his/her partner.
This was in an era when dancing was dancing and music was music. Both were SENSATIONAL!

BECAUSE IT'S NOT MUSIC.

thank you for posting such sharp footage of the most amazing dancers in the universe!!!!!!!!
Bravissimi, non è un tipo di ballo che mi appassiona, ma di fronte a due eccellenze come questi due , non posso che applaudire.
Pure poetry in motion! Thanks for posting!
Wonderful classic pair, they really don't make em like they used to
Dance perfection
Fred dancing with Ginger - it doesn't get any better!
Amen to that

LOVE this number, straight from its cool, understated beginning at :01-:06. Timeless!

rever esses artistas me deixa em estado de graça...
Amazing what an extraordinary performance of dance within about three minutes!
exceedingly impressive and amusing:)
