Thanks for the nice comment. There are indeed several ways to make Czech Christmas bread, but the most important thing is that it always tastes great to everyone! 😍

I remember my Babička making Vánočka every year. The wonderful smell and taste are still deeply rootet in my memory - thank you for sharing the recipe and showing me how to braid it correctly - this is something I've not been able to do correctly until now. Best wishes from Germany ❤

Thank you for your kind comment! When it comes to braiding Czech Christmas bread, I admit that this activity requires not only hands but also a lot of mental effort 😄. Just for fun, Vánočka can be braided with different numbers of strands, but the traditional base consists of 4, the middle layer of 3 and the top layer of 2 strands. Happy New Year from the Czech Republic!

Oh, I remember my grandmother's hoska. I'm 77 years old and still remember the smell and taste. However, being young, I never realized the intensity of making hoska. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. It looks delicious.

Thank you for your comment! I totally agree about braiding the Christmas bread. Getting four strands right requires excellent focus; I know what I'm talking about! Anyway, the sweet Christmas bread tastes good, even if its shape isn't perfect. Happy New Year from the Czech Republic! ❤️

Oh yes ❤ !!! I grew up with vanocka, Czech Christmas Braid. Very good toasted with butter, too, yum.

Exactly! Toasted with butter, or with butter and jam on top. In our family, leftover Vánočka was also used to make Žemlovka (Czech bread pudding). Or a quick recipe from my grandpa: he'd break up pieces of old Christmas bread, pour hot milk over them, sprinkle with poppy seeds and sugar, and drizzle with melted butter. Such a delicious treat!

I am so mad at you.
I love Vanocka and now I want to eat some right out of the oven, but I don't have one. 🥲
I have seen some Vanocka made more roundish and have seen some more flat, but yours is nice and high and the correct shape.
Thank you for a great video, now that I know how to make it, I have no excuse not to make one. 😃

Thank you for your kind comment, it made me smile! Sometimes the Vánočka bread collapses when baking or the shape just isn't perfect, but the taste is delicious. My tip is to add grated nutmeg to the dough and put enough butter - then the Vánočka is fantastic! :)

The round one was made usually at Easter. Same recipe. I used to make Vanocka every Christmas and folks loved it when I brought one to work!
