  • Major service complete on Basil the Porsche 987 Boxster, was it plain sailing for the 170k mile legend? I can't emphasise how excellent boxsters are, the driving experience is superb.

I did see your Boxster at Beaulieu and would have said hello but I did not see you in the crowds. I have a 2005 Boxster S, and its good hear an honest review of the maintenance costs of these cars. I asked Pauls advice about brakes on mine, a nice fella and very helpful. Love the videos!!

Hi it’s funny because I wasn’t to sure about adding the maintenance costs, but felt it might be helpful for potential buyers. Thanks for the kind words, there will be lots of videos and hopefully Boxster comparison videos on the way in 2024. Thanks again appreciate the comment 👍

Hi, I’m into two weeks of driving my 56 cayman 2.7 that I brought from Mortimers prestige in billingshurst, they could not have sold me a better car !! Four new boots all round, new discs and pads all round, new dual mass fly wheel and clutch ( as the old one was slipping badly !) major service completed as well !! As a first time Porsche owner ( stepping out from a focus ST ) I could not be happier with the service from them and the car, as far as I can tell is absolutely fantastic. It is going to be a daily driver not a garage queen !!! All I can say is if you are in the market for a Porsche cayman DO IT NOW !! You will not regret it !

Great video Graham, Sounds like you have found a great mechanic in Paul! I would suggest that if you are dropping the coolant to do the cross over pipes, I would be ordering a complete set of engine coolant hoses and clamps and a water pump. Do the lot while you are there. Trouble free motoring for years to come. Whilst the car is not that old in the scheme of things, it is and can be a future classic, by doing all these jobs. Not sure if they are timing belt or timing chain equipped but same thing applies as per the serpentine drive belt. Time or mileage travelled. You have over capitalised on this car compared to it's purchase price. But it doesn't matter if you love the car, you get enjoyment from it, and it is your hobby. And after seeing it in the flesh, it is in exceptional condition for it's age and mileage. Good on ya bro! x x

Get yourself Koni Active shocks and Mo30 springs. Completely transformed my 986S Paul did the work. I got the geometry done by Charles Ivey in Surbiton. Top notch

Koni active shocks sounds great, will have a chat once the subframe sorted, thanks for commenting 👍

On a slightly different note I’ve been trying out different fuels and I can confirm that so far 99 Ron unleaded is the best, you can definitely feel the performance increase in my opinion, hope that helps.

Coolant hoses at front are £500 takes 30mins to drop the subframe on a Boxster I know done it about 15 times in 2 months easiest job to do ever. Do it yourself unless your handi 🧢

Mine needs the subframe doing too. The price you have been quoted seems extortionate. Granted, I have a second hand subframe going in, but both specialists near me quoted just over a grand to change it inc new control arms etc. I suppose if your getting a brand new one from Porsche the price of the subframe will be eye watering, so that's probably where the extra money is.

@@vincentlong8773 yikes 1k to change the subframe it’s about a 30 min job to drop it I have proven that many times. I get a lot of people come to me from garages telling them it takes 3hrs and I show them how garages lie to them about that as it’s deffinetely not a 3hr job! They say that so they can mess around on other stuff go and eat relax have tea all while you are paying for them for that long with your car. Don’t fall for that it’s literally easy it’s all 16mm and 15MM bolts the steering rack bolts are 13mm 2 of them. The braces directly underneath are 15MM bolts it really ain’t hard for it to come down at all the control arms come off with the subframe just take the nut off which connects to the hub on the ball joints that’s it

@@Robert_Stern That was including new control arms, drop links etc. He claimed he would need all these items because they would be completely fused and need grinding to remove them. It definitely needs drop links - they rattle like hell over bumps!
