Just a small point in response to a number of comments: "the gray man" MIGHT be Kindred's form before they split in two, but Kindred's teaser very specifically says that "once upon a time there was a pale man with dark hair" who split himself into so he would always have a friend. Pale and dark. White and black. Lamb and wolf. Which is not, I think, quite the same as "gray." I mean it could be, sure, but I don't think it's certain.
The gray is reference to mixing black and white. For Kindred, would be the day they reunite again, feeling lonely once more.

If that *is* Kindred’s true form, that might mean that they are a kind of demon too, but their kill call fits more with his victims than with the other demons. Considering that they’re supposed to be the spirit of death, that has some...interesting implications regardless.
I made the same point on reddit and got poo poo'd on for making the distinction. I think it could mean cool stuff that I'm not creative enough yet to come up with.

Interesting to note is that when he kills the demons he recognises, be also names what they feed on (Evelynn: Agony, Nocturne: Nightmares, Tahm Kench: Addiction, Raum: Secrets) and when you select Fiddlesticks, he tells you what HE feeds on (Fear). Just thought it was a neat touch!

Since one of Fiddlesticks' kill lines is "Fiddle.... sticks...", I like to imagine that one of his early victims dejectedly yelled "fiddlesticks!" ("aw, shucks!") as they realized the mistake they made that led them to becoming Fiddle's prey... and then Fiddle copied that line and started screaming it as he was hunting victims...
And now the few survivors that managed to escape as their comrades lay dead behind them tell tales of this demonic scarecrow, known by the only thing it ever said (like a Pokemon): Fiddlesticks.
(Imagine having a scarecrow demon named FUCKFUCKFUCKOHSHITOHFUCKWHY, though)
Actually, the word fiddlesticks started out as basically an old timey way to say OH SHIT!

I feel Jinx stealing that thing in the trailer is going to be a big part of the series and be the major thing to start every, could even have massive repercussions.

If you imagine these voice lines all as being the last words spoken by someone, then the image of someone saying “Fiddlesticks is just a fable. A story to scare children,” and then IMMEDIATELY being BRUTALLY MURDERED by Fiddlesticks is so scary and cool
Gonna keep it real with y'all - the most terrifying line there for me is "I'm coming to help. Where are you? I can't see you. I. Can't. See. You." Because that's a whole set of sentences I know Fiddle stole from his last victim to use to tempt out another victim, likely a parent looking for their child to tempt out... Their other child...

"Its in the house" is especially creepy for me because most of us (including me) consider our home as a safe haven... imagine seeing THIS outside your bedroom door at 3 in the morning...

And fiddle is probably a very smart predator, voice lines, trailer and kit kinda show that he meticulously plans each hunt as they happen. He probably doesn't bother with the damages considering how messed up his vessel is.
When I hear it, I see it as two separate victims. Two different people trying to run from something, but not wanting to leave each other behind.
You think Fiddlesticks imitates its/his victims to lure out relatives?
Isn't it canon that Fiddlesticks doesn't grasp and consciously interact with the world around it/him, so this degree of intent and premeditation is beyond him/it?
@@xCorvus7xit fully understands it's victims fears though. Think of it as a game AI that just straight up reads your inputs and came preprogrammed knowing what every button your push does to you. Now fiddlesticks just needs to gather the buttons.
So just checked the universe page. Apparently Zoe “stole the only joy from a ragged, whispering horror” somehow that just makes the key even more ominous.
Yeah Surprise Fiddle's new VO has a line: "Nice key you got there, Twilight; didn't steal it from someone DANGEROUS, did you?"
Well, atleast we know why Zoe is a demonic champion. She took the key from a dangerous DEMON.

In regards to the "Grey Man" line: this refers, I believe, to the single entity that Lamb and Wolf used to be. The reason Fiddlesticks is saying that to them (in my opinion) fits under the assumption that it's only speaking to terrify those listening: the single being that the Kindred used to be split itself into two so that it would never be lonely again - what else would Lamb and Wolf fear the most other than not having each other for companionship again?

Even more so, Kindred and Fiddle are both supposed to have existed before the dawn of time. I think Fiddle just remembers Kindred before they split: he remembers them as the Grey Man.

I think fiddle was just addressing them in a different name like you would with a coworker. It felt more as an aknowledgement rather than a threat. Same thing he does with Eve and Tahm but since Kindred has many names he just went with that.

Kindred was a pale man that cut himself in two, and I think that's what terrifies kindred, to become one again, and be all alone.
At least that's what I thought fiddlesticks was referring to. The gray man is loneliness, because everyone dies, everyone leaves, except the kindred

I agree but the last part is probably just Fiddle mimicking Kindred's voice line as he kills them, like Vayne , Riven and Soraka

Oddly enough, "Lamb, tell me a story" is one of a few lines of dialogue that triggers when Kindred in "dead" on the Rift. This means that Fiddlesticks knows what happens when champions die in the Rift...
What I realised because of this is the reason it was called a "Grey man" was because the mix of Kindred (White) and Wolf (Black) which makes the grey colour... wow...
This is probably the best interpretation I have seen so far.
I just want too add that in some cultures or demonology, demons are able too say other demons names if they don't fear them. In this case, I'm thinking that fiddle sticks says their names because of this.
Its also believed that using the true name of a demon weakens them.
Why would fear itself fear anything?

Anyone wanna talk about how the repeated voice lines have a much less strenuous and darker voice? It's like the demon is getting used to speaking, or like these are the only thoughts not stolen from his victims.
It might be creepy now ( fiddles voice ) but wait until it's used to speaking and has like fluent to languages and accents. Shits gonna be creepier

His comment to Kindred could be a reference to Lamb's "story" of a pale man who was very lonely because all things must meet him, so they shunned him. "Grey man" could be the man who split himself in two, creating the black and white spirits of Wolf and Lamb. They perhaps do not want to be reminded that they are one spirit, not two, because that only reminds them of their loneliness.

Another possibility that I personally favor: Just as Fiddlesticks seemingly acknowledges the other demons in the game by just saying their name, "Grey Man" could it acknowledging Kindred.
@@grandamnevaldo2093 I have a feeling they're going to retcon that to be honest otherwise they wouldn't have put that line in... they might be considering expanding on kindred lore to either make lamb and wolf one champ again if they're reworked or they might change it so they could make the "original" form a champ on its own. Reason I say this is because they seem to have realised how good senna and other lore chars have been doing. I also think the edgy midlaner will be the ruined king though but I might be wrong on all of it...
I like to think that he is using "For Demacia" against garen, because garen knows deep down, that what he does for Demacia is actually wrong and that might haunt him.
Nah, Fiddle only says "For Demacia" when he kills Garen, because that's one of garen's lines.
just like he stole the "lines" of the "npc's", riven etc. he steals the line from garen, but you could still have an "unintended" point of view

Hey, I know I'm like 4 months late and I thought this was true too, but I remembered that Vayne is her LAST name, not her first name, her real name is Shauna, so I'm guessing he was imitating Evelynn who was probably holding her dead parents and making them smile like some sick puppetmaster
I believe that was the thing Evelynn said to Vayne before she disappeared.
She decided that a lifetime of delicious suffering was better than a quick, freeing death...so Eve decided to give Vayne a lot of psychological agony to save for a later meal
The fact that he is the oldest kinda reminds me of this quote: "“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown” By HP lovecraft. I guess Fiddle is kinda Eldritch/lovecraftian in a way.
Especially since Fiddles is more of a cosmic entity, supposedly born at the "first agonizing screams of creation". He existed on Runeterra a VERY long time ago, but was banished, and has only recently returned. So he is quite literally both Fear and the Unknown to the people of present day Runeterra

The "Everybody, Panic!" and "Lamb, tell me a story" lines are both just Fiddlesticks mimicking Jinx and Kindred, since those are Jinx and Kindred's voicelines in-game. It's not their fears.
The "For Demaccia" with Garen as well. It's the things they say during their fights and he immitates them after he is done with them...
Those are the last words that Maybe fiddle heard from them, thats why he say that when he kill them

It's likely Fiddlesticks trying to mimic them to lure them or future victims in. The demon loves to pretty much jumpscare his victims and feasts on the pure fear of the moment just like Evelynn likes to feast on lust, Nocturn enjoys feasting on nightmares and Raum feasts on secrets

What I adore about this rework is that the designers hit on what makes a true horror character. PRESENCE. Its paradoxically being everywhere at once even if nowhere to be found. At least....not until it’s too late. You can’t see Fiddle....but it? It sees you. And it wants you. You can die the easy way, or you can die the hard way. The choice really isn’t yours.

I think you're leaning a bit too much on the fear thing with some of these. Wolf doesn't fear Lamb, Lamb doesn't fear wolf. Wolf and Lamb fear nothing more than loneliness. Since they can't actually die, and they are now two, that fear is only a distant memory. A lot of what Fiddlesticks does is parrot what he hears in attempts to learn how to speak and better mimic his prey. The voice line he speaks when he defeats kindred is nothing more than him parroting Wolf.
Ah no, Zoe has always had Fiddlesticks' key, even from the old fiddles, it was her teaser, they took the key from his splashart (kinda how they teased the first aatrox on Jax's lantern in the splashart) I think that's what they are referring to in the skin

Maybe now riot will give them an actual connection outside just a teaser but knowing riot, they probably won't.

Fiddle doesn't just mimic what his victims are afraid of, he mimics what his victims say in general because he's learning to appear human to get closer to his prey.
Fiddlesticks is so unsettling, we need to analyze its voice lines as much as it’s overall character design. Fiddlesticks is the near perfect character.

I think Lamb actually says a "Pale Man", not a grey man, but something pale can very well be grey.
Also Wolf responds with "Did he chase them all?", then Lamb says "He took an axe, and he split himself in two"

My theory is: Eve kills Vayne's parents in front of her and then says "give us a smile". Maybe even using her parents form while doing it because she's a demon that can transform.

The apart about Vayne smiling is hinting at when she came home as a child and found her family murdered by Evelynn and the smile Evelynn had. Also how she didn't smile much as a child and her mother used to ask her to "give us a smile".

I love voicelines when fiddlesticks kills other demons. It mentions their primary powers like agony or nightmares. But when it kills Swain it says "Secrets". Raum is a demon of secrets?
Everybody Panic! is a common voiceline from Jinx. I think she says it when walking and carrying fishbones specifically.
I just love how now watching Arcane it makes a LOT of sense why for Jinx fiddlesticks says "all your fault" kinda shows they knew what they were doing

Also I really hope they bring in Fiddlesticks in the later parts of Arcane
Jinx would likely be completely incapacitated by it and you could even have Warwick show up and fight him to show that Vander's protective instinct over them never quite goes away

@T B Skyen the grey man is assumed to be kindred before. Lamb tells Wolf a story of a grey man who was very lonely as all things had to meet him, so they shunned him. So he took an axe and split himself in two right down the middle , so he will always have a friend. My hypothesis is that Kindred fear becoming one again and be lonely.
Edit : also at kills he tries to mimick some of the quotes the champion says. Example: Jinx has an in game quote " Everybody panic ! "

Given that Fiddlesticks typically speaks a real name when in reference to a demon (Nocturne, Evelyn, Raum (Swain), etc., I think it's more than likely that the "Grey Man" is who Kindred once was. When I listened to their story and it spoke of a creature who split itself in two so it wouldn't be lonely, the fact that Kindred is two characters who are black and white respectively, and that the colour gray is what you get when you mix the two colours together, there is enough of a breadcrumb trail to hint that Kindred used to be this "Grey Man."

The grey man is kindred as one. Kindred and wolf used to be a single person, the "grey man" who was very lonely so he split himself in two, so he would never be alone.
Now when it comes to the "lamb tell me a story" I believe it's just him mimicking their death line, because when you kill kindred in-game wolf says "lamb tell me a story" if you notice fiddlesticks not only mimicks past traumas but the death voiceline of some of the champions, like he does with Soraka.

Kindred are not demons. They are death itself.
@Gage Acosta They aren't a demon, they are a Spirit God. There is a difference, dunno what exactly. Janna is a good example of what a Spirit God is, formed by the belive of people. Question is if Spirit Gods like Kindred would die with the loss of belive like Janna would, or if they can exist without belive and are just empowered and formed by it.
But Fiddlesticks voiceline could still be him acknowledge another powerfull spiritual entity

As long as any one person would face death, the Kindred exists. They even have a voice line about what would happen when they're all that remains on Runeterra

The 'Grey man' is a common name for death in many areas of folklore. Just flat up death. In Kindred's lore he was so lonely, so afraid of being alone that he cut himself into two peices; Peaceful death(lamb) and Violent death(Wolf), so he would never be alone again. You can also see their connection if you look at their masks, with Each wearing the face of the other half( lamb with a wolf mask with a white mark, Wolf with a lamb mask with a black mark). Kindred more then everything else, fears being forced back alone once more, their shared past of being so feared of, so hated that they had no friends or kindness. So Fiddlesticks comments their shared past as the lonely depressed 'grey man' and wolf's line referencing their story as the grey man.

With the tell me a story I feel it's more of one fearing the loss of the other and not getting a response to the tell me a story that's why it's said when u kill lamb as wolf fears that it won't have lamb and there will be no story told.
The "grey man" line I think refers to Kindred's legend, if you remember in the teaser they say that Kindred were once a lonely man that split himself in two to alway have a friend, the grey would also make sense, since Lamb is white and Wolf is black so putting them together would be gray, so what he's mocking here would be their fear of loneliness

Maybe the key being stolen has, in some way kept Fiddlesticks from evolving. In some way restraining his power. It would fit with the aspect of twilight's notable past actions of keeping check on anything that could endanger the aspects.
10:58 i dont think this was supose to scare them since he already kill them and are just watching their bodys turning into dust. Kindred have this quote where wolf wants to hear a hiatory and lamb tells one, is like their assignature quote it is in their trailer and when they die in game for any other character the trailers dialog starts.

in regard to kindred fiddle says the name of the demons he encounter almost like it’s in respect. I think when he says the grey man to kindred he is referring to kindred original form the grey man. As kindred was initially one entity that was lonely and split itself in two.
If fiddlesticks is as old as the biography says he is then he would have known kindred the god of death as it’s original form. As the grey man. When he kills kindred in game he just copies a voice line that kindred often says.
My interpretation of the "Grey man" line for Kindred was that Kindred used to be one entity that split itself in two because since everyone feared death, it was always alone. So maybe the Grey Man is what Lamb and Wolf used to be and their biggest fear is being alone again.

Regarding kindred at 6:15, you go to literal with the scary things line here. He doesn't traumatize other demons, and I think like how he respects other demons; he sees kindred as not necessarily an equal but akin to himself, as an entity that has existed from the very beginning alongside him. A true rival one might say. As such he recognizes the kindred as their original self, the grey man. Death.
There is a possible implication that he is reminding them of how their previous incarnation was all alone and miserable, and that they do not desire to return to being a singularity, the grey man, once more.
I have to say, Riot did an incredible job with the voice acting on Fiddles. This is the first video where I've listened to the voice lines, and the reaction was quite visceral; hair standing on end, shivering, chills down my spine, even tearing up a little bit. The fact that he unabashedly targets the darkest parts of a champion's history, targeting the single frayed thread of who they are, and pulling it just so they unravel into a mass of tangled fear, is terrifying. He doesn't just induce paranoia, he takes what makes you strong and tears it down around you, until all that's left is your fear, and him.
The kindreds fear is the fear to be alone when back there they were only one thing one grey man black and white togheter but alone

I like that it merely addresses his fellow Demons. It knows they are like it, and are not afraid , but still tries to kill them anyway.

Fiddlesticks just spits out lines he's picked up before, worse than that - just noises. I'm a bit disappointed Skyen you don't even mention him mimicking animals.
It's just part of his nature. In a way you could say fiddlesticks isn't even 'trying' to scare his victims, the things he does are just part of his nature.
Maybe Fiddlesticks was somehow present when some of the other character experienced trauma?
Clearly he doesn't HAVE to kill his victims to repeat their voice lines as can be seen with vayne.
All I'm hinting at is that fiddlesticks is even more primitive that he might appear. None of the noises he spits out are deliberately expelled to scare. He just begins to babble - as a neighing horse, the howling of the wind in the trees, the exhausted breath of a victim, voices he picked up while stalking on a bunch of people sitting close to a campfire in the middle of the night while maybe mentioning 'fiddlesticks' this apparent myth.
It - fiddlesticks - doesn't even know or understand what it is itself. It just is. And that's f-ing creepy.

“Grey Man” - The being Kindred was believed to be prior to splitting themselves into Wolf and Lamb.
I am three years late but in march of this year i met the va for fiddlesticks and he did a few of the voicelines and it was so cool!!!
Pretty sure it was confirmed by Riot that "first of ten" doesn't refer to other demons. I heard that from someone else though so not 100% sure it's true.
First of ten refers to the ten greater demons, none of which are champions (other than fiddle)
I'm kinda surprised you didn't get the kindred ones. They are a reference for their origin story, what the kindred feared most is being alone, they were a man that was always alone and split himself in half, so they were born, the white lamb and the black wolf. So they will never be alone...
Sometimes lamb and wolf tell each other the story while they are respawning from death. The Grey man it's "their name" and their fear, being alone.
I think Zoe could mean a lot to fiddlesticks as she's a trickster god of mischief and playfulness. And the only one he couldn't strike fear in. In her lore, she jumped off a cliff and got ascended, before that she was just a mischievous child. No trauma, nothing to fear. So the fact that Zoe managed to steal a key from fiddlesticks probably left them quite baffled. And I don't think the keys are meant to open some lore drop thing that's important but more like a design choice and something random Zoe stole.

The phrases when he kills somebody are for the most part actual phrases from the champions in game: like “Everybody panic” for Jinx or “For Demacia” for Garen or even “Lamb, tell me a story” for Kindred. Fiddlesticks doesn’t always mimic the fears of people, sometimes he just takes the phrases of his victims randomly because he doesn’t really understand what he’s saying, he just tries to imitate a human being. So I don’t think there is anything like Wolf being scared of Lamb or Garen being scared of Demacia.
