Boy howdy that took me a while to put together didn't it?
Anyway, our resident 300 cosplayer decided to grow a personality all of a sudden - let's have a look at it, and evaluate if it's malignant or one of those cool ninja turtle mutations. - Zábava

Ok Google, Pan The Off
This was on purpose. In spanish, "pan" means bread
You mean Pantie(s) on?
Pan Thy On
And his arch nemesis: Ace A Off
26:12 An additional detail would be that when pantheon crits he uses his foot.
It's kinda easy to miss the detail because obviously that is a spartan kick. But let's dive deeper.
Crits are an empowered attack. They are the creme de la creme of autoattacks. Notice how he uses the spear and shield for basic aa's which are weaker than the crit.
But when he crits, he uses his own foot. He's not using the god powers of the weapons, he is using himself, a man, a mortal, to accomplish more than what god weapons could do.
He's implying that a man is stronger than gods with the crit.
Illaoi does the same thing, actually, and considering what *her* story is... I would say it very much implies the same thing. She hits things with the Eye of God for her basics, and even her empowered attack is her leaping and dunking things with it... but when she crits, she kicks things with her foot.
or perhaps he is implying that.. THIS! IS! SPARTA!!!
Also, arms are significantly weaker then legs by a biological standpoint
@@cccccaaaaassssssss not to crap on your logic but "divine spear"
@@VitaeLibra lorewise when pantheon uses it its just a spear, unless hes like extremely into the fight he doesnt passively have enough willpower to set it alight, making it pretty much a standard spear.
I think the death animation is a little reference to a Greek sculpture “fallen warrior, temple of aphaia”.
Maybe two years late, but something I do enjoy about Pantheon is that the aspect of WAR uses a Spear, the primary melee weapon of war throughout almost all of human history, rather than a Sword

9:19: That's maltheism, the belief that the gods are bad. In this case, the belief that the gods are uncaring and/or incapable of doing what they claim to do for mortals. And yeah, a maltheistic semi-dead god is a neat character concept-one who holds the gods to a standard that his injuries prevent him from fully fulfilling, but he's going to try anyways because he _knows_ it's the right thing to do. I love it.
Maltheism.
I'd have called it anti-theism, and I'm not sure the word maltheism is all that sensible to express what you say it does.
Mal- is an established word or word part meaning bad/evil, but maltheism could just as well be the devotion to evil gods, couldn't it?
Sure, Pantheon does believe in the gods, and he does believe they are evil, so he believes in evil gods, but the point is less that he believes in the gods than that he condemns them.
@@xCorvus7x Its hard to be antitheist when you literally fight them and they clearly exist
@@yoshypl9901 I said anti-theist, not atheist.
While you're right that for obvious reasons anti-theists in real life are more concerned with theists, believers, religion than with the respective deities themselves, I wouldn't put it past anti-theists who identify themselves as such to even condemn the god standing right in front of them.
I suppose they'd be maltheists, too, then.
However, technically believing that the gods are evil doesn't mean you hate them: fighting back is only one reaction to this knowledge, you could also surrender and perhaps not even hate them for what/how they are.
@@xCorvus7x Fair enough
@@xCorvus7x sorry to add on this so late but being an anti theist is not someone viewing god as an enemy it is somone vehemently opposing the very existence of god, misotheism is perhaps the term you were looking for

A reference to baker panth.
A small correction here.
What they fought at Shurima was an acended not an aspect and it's description fits xerath pretty well.
well?? it fits him perfectly and im soo happy xerath appeared again!!
@@gilsai4990 Well, maybe xerath's new lore being hinted at would have him actually becoming an aspect through the ascendent thing instead of an ascendant. This would go to explain better why he is not an animal person like all the other ascendants.
@@shadows_star no, he's not an animal person because he took all the magic power that was possible, so he basically became the magic power

TBSubscriben is what we're calling ourselves now huh
@@mattockmaniac4727 until someone else thinks of something better
16:40 Actually, I would judge from his voicelines that it's almost the opposite. He says in game "I wear a helm so that I am only a soldier." He doesnt want to be remembered as a hero or as an aspect, he wants people to know he is a soldier like them, and that they can reach the same heights if they fight.
That might be how Atreus sees himself as and what he thinks putting the helmet on does for him. But it definitely isn't how people see him especially in that color story.
This is Pan, The On-going legend since his his rework
I wouldn't say that his motivation solely stems from him being angry per se, cause then Tryndamere would stand to be a clear connection with respect to his personality. I believe Atreus to simply be driven by defiance and justice rather than pure hatred. And his in-game quotes strengthen this approach imo.
The man wants to defy the gods and wants justice hell his in game voice line he shows alot of respect and admiration for how much suraka cares about mortals
So the pinnacle of pettiness? I knew there's a reason I love this man. 😂😂😂

Im 100% convinced Pantheon falls off late game because hes just a man
But even then, he will win, even then he will spit in your face
Pantheon switches to a more tanky build in the late game.
Just being too angry to die
He's a lot better than most other assassins lategame tbh. Lots of utility and can build bruiser very effectively.

a little bit of misleading wording there, darling
@@sibanbgd100 that what _he_ said; more like.
In Atreus' declaration that his pantheon are the warriors that have fallen in battle, and they are represented in the Constellation of War, it reminds me very strongly of the scene in 300 when King Leonidas calls out to his men "Spartans! What is your profession?!" and they echo back their war grunt. And his use of Asose as the rallying cry cements that role of the leader quite literally leading the charge of his men, even unto death.
He is wholly devoted to them, and in that moment they see it, and devote wholly to him in return.
"Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys.
Treat them as your own beloved sons, and they will follow you even unto death" Sun Tzu, the art of war
Needed to go through his quotes. I listen to them for motivation daily and he’s a very STOIC person. He does what needs done and knows ones power comes from themself. I love this pantheon and literally only play him in ranked after rework. Such an amazing character . By far the most relatable.
“Life was always a war.” Just existing in this life is a war. As someone that planned on offing myself at one point hearing someone as powerful as Atreus say it (even though it’s a character in a game) really gives a feeling of pride for pushing through that tough time and coming out the other side.
Remember that each and every one of you can make you do whatever you want. You have the power in you to make the best decisions in your situation. It won’t always work out, but you get back up dust yourself off, and you climb your personal Targon. “The best climbers know how to fall” “Because we fall, the climb must be the destination.” Don’t fear failure friends. It’s what we mortals do to grow.
Kratos would be proud.
Idk, he didn't do enough god killing.
@@khaledabdo4731 ah, but you see, he moved to the targonian/shuriman mythology to do so, but because the some of the gods are a little out of reach, the darkin will do just fine
Kratos would be afraid as he would be on pantheon list.
One thing to also point about his rework/update is that they seem to have gone the direction his identity in the fandom pointed at.
He's often referred to as "Mantheon" because you need to have courage to play him, because he's a bruiser/assassin who has very specific conditions to hold his own as a bruiser (ie, timing his blocks) and has no way out as an assassin (so he goes in... and he has to fight to the bitter end instead of skulking out like coward). And also because of the "he-man" skin.
So now the word "mantheon" has a meaning to the lore, as the man survived and took Pantheon's things
I think that what makes Atreus so particularly appealing is that he claims War for humanity. The Aspects of Targon don't fight because they have to. They are not obligated to become bound with a mortal. War seldom occurs for fun. People have reasons why they fight. They can't afford not to. So the Aspect of War being effectively replaced by a human is very poetic. The Aspect of War was a surface level understanding of fighting and violence. Atreus is the human understanding of war. It's bloody, and messy. People will die and never return. But you keep fighting because you don't have any other choice.
"too angry to die."
Tryndamere: Am I joke to you?
Male eye candy's nice, and I don't even find men attractive. 1. It's aesthetically pleasing. 2. Sometimes in games I want to BE the eye candy(it actually turns out I'm techniaclly not a man, though). It's kind of weird that female characters are so often the ones stuck with the role.
Yeah like I want to be a fucking sexy champ sometimes but I dont always want to be big titty. But yall just dont have much i candy for men who want to be eye candy masculine dudes
Yeah honestly it's just nice to look at in general. Like in the One punch man manga every damn character, male or female, is a damn supermodel and it just makes everything nice to look at.

Why do I feel like Skyen might have went on about this half-drunk and half-pissed off we've been bugging him about this for a good while
Atreus is the embodiment of "Man too disappointed with every shit that has happened to him and everyone, refuses to die" as he's not only disappointed in the gods, but also with those the gods fight against lmao
So, doom guy, but instead of fighting hell, he fights any and every godly being? And instead of a shotgun, he has a spear and a shield that react to his sheer level of A N G E R Y?
That's Kratos' shit.

Dude that lore run through was the most hilarious thing ever...i for some reasons just kept playing in my head how it might look like if pantheon or atreus spoke in that exact manner during these events and i almost cried of laughter...absolutely brilliant 😂😂

The scar on his chest and shield are really what stands out to me. Pantheon's design reflects his ideology, he fought against something so overwhelmingly strong that it ended up killing him. But because of unwavering persistance, he was transformed and reborn making him stronger through that experience. To me, the scar on his chest says "No matter what kind of trauma you went through you can still live on, but only if you're willing to do so despite the odds that you come across."
I think you should also consider the spear and shield, aswell as the helmet. His helmet, shield and spear are divine, and he uses them to fight for mortality, and shows his unreliance on the gods by only using the bare minimum to protect himself, not wearing any other armor. The shield is really his only defence, and it relies on HIS skill to block the blow, unlike a full divine set of armor would. Also it polarises his character, his shield is only for defending mortals (himself included) and his spear only for striking gods which give him this vibe of being committed and determined. Also during his death animation, all three of these divine items fail him and he dies not touching a single one. He looks up to the heavens during the animations, I dont think its one final struggle to get up, Its him spitting in the face of the gods one more time by facing them as enemies one last time, showing that he would rather die a mortal than take up his divine weapons. You notice he uses his forearm to pull himself towards the helmet as it falls off, thinking about putting it on and possibly submitting to the aspect of war again to prolong his life, but instead defiantly dies a man, with accusatory eyes on the gods.
I really enjoy the animation showcase that you've taken to doing. It's something I don't typically take a look at when playing these champions, and frankly I didn't even know the tool existed anymore. As usual it's nice and analytic but not cold and clinical.
for a second i thought that a new champ would come out before this video
Two years ago I reminded you that you need to do the video on the politics of all the regions of Runeterra xD Another reminder lmao
It wasn’t an Aspect, it was an Ascended.

The word you are looking for to describe pantheon's belief is "Misotheism".
which Wikipedia describes as "hatred of the gods".
"Giant slab of beef!" XD love it!
Another great in depth video, thanks for doing this! Mostly off topic, but I think you'd really enjoy Ken Liu's Grace of Kings book and its sequel (they're pretty long but great reads), Pantheon's new lore reminds me of parts of it (the folk legends of that series' god of war are REALLY fantastic and interesting)
Aspect of Humanity? :deepthink:
Pantheon: Man to angry to die, to the point he kills the god killer.
Imagine if his lore actually indicated that he met kindred when he tracked death's door with sheer will. Would make a better cohesion for the whole kindred lore I think.

Looking forward to this. Im curious by the way, what are your favorite champions? And have you ever heard of the Darksiders series? It's one of my favorite gaming franchises and I wonder what you could pick up from the art... and maybe the lore if you are familiar with the series.

Just letting u know that I started playing Pantheon in the toplane after this video, great analysis. I love the Pantheon Spartan like trope. Sometimes playing league one can forget about lore of all +150 champs but I love what riot started doing with all the game's lore

I wish there is a skin that tone down the spear, basically make it a bit more practical, like the spear head can be a bit more realistic and the tail of the spear can be like an arrow quill, and remove the 2 horn on the side of his helmet.
This can only mean that we're gonna get a new lore teaser, a new champ release, a new game mode, a new pantheon rework, and Riot Games releasing their own movie before this goes up so that Skyen has to postpone it again
More than 2 years later and for what we've seen of the season 12 'Call" video they're finally getting around to him....
