Hey Pete,
I'm the magenta player in this game.
This is so intriguing to see the communication between you and the white player because as you said, we indeed had agreed to attack you even before the green player died.
In the endgame when you made the switch to NA and white attacked you, you both were pretty fast on the board so i though i'm gonna appear slow so that one of them goes for the kill early thinking they are faster then me, i had a little chuckle when you said "and he played it nice and slow" at the end, that was indeed my intention :)
Anyway, this was a very nice game, i remembered it when i watched it back here.
SUPER COOL to finally play a game with you, i'm a fan of your video's and as of today a new sub... the video with me in it made me do it :)
Hope to meet you again Pete!
Cheers !!
Awesome! I could tell the whole game you were a lot better than the white player. I don't know what I could have done to lock you into the deadliest trap with him. He asked me to hit you. I don't know if doing so would have earned any equity. Once he broken and opened my nwt stack I figured taking second was my best option.
Thanks for the bro always classy with the GG at the end 🙏
Wow, cool to see this interaction! It's always fascinating to hear another player's perspective of the game
I love all of this.
understanding the intentions of the other players and acting according
to the newer players think of it as a psychological game aswell as a strategy game
@@TheKillPeteStrategy Thanks for the kind words!
I agree when white semi suicides into you, 2nd was your best option.
But from my point of view, if you had kept your big stack on white when you made the move to NA, i was more then willing to attack white as he had shown me intentions to just take half the board and let you have NA thus breaking our agreement. This was also the reason i broke his bonuses.
I know there is no way you could have known this but for me personally, locking a big stack in an active 3 player endgame means "you guys duke it out and i'll swoop in later" and in that case i'll just keep attacking or help white.
I figure if you had kept you big stack active, you could have convinced me to join and go to the 1v1 against me with a disadvantage in troops, but a HUGE advantage in skill.
This is so awesome to be able to discuss this with you man, i know you are levels and levels above me so i value your opinion greatly.
And i'm always classy in victory...defeat on the other hand :) Just kidding ;) I'm almost always GG'ing everybody :)
PS: sorry if i'm wording this wrong, English is not my first language.
There once was a small chinese farmer which didnt knew all of this, but since he was raised in the holy temple of the mighty turtle, he always goes for the asian turtle strategy and was almost undefeatable 🐢
I mean I have to do it
a wise man indeed
Love watching the slow game with your discussion on game rules and strategy the whole time...and white had an amazingly lucky starting board.
I love that you're doing a tutorial series. I'm excited for the more advanced stuff. Board positioning, map analysis, pathing, common and advanced strats,,,
For sure. I will expand the theory.
One of the most interesting games I've seen to date. The use of the ally features, the flip near the end and now the comments being made here. Well done!
❤️
I love these tutorials, thank you Pete! Even though I'm familiar with the game through your videos and my own play, seeing the slow walk-through of the theory of strategy is always entertaining. You've made me a much better player. Can't wait for more. :)
Thanks Ryainn
I'm gonna keep working on the series and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes.
Pete! You've gotten me back into risk and I appsolutely love it! I've been watching all your videos and this one is definitely a great one! Even though I knew most of the basics already, I really enjoyed watching this video and how you explained them step by step. I have a lot of trouble with greed in the game and couldn't believe you didn't try and take Asia when you had pretty good blocks for it. I will definitely try using your turtle strategies more often! Keep being you!
Haha thank you. I have my own approach to greed and it gets punished. There are only a couple of times where we get away with taking Asia
They need to do a better way to make your own or pick a name
If you're playing on steam you can choose between your steam name, facebook name, or Risk name.
I played one who was general dung 😅
I just change my steam name a bunch.
Great content man. Keep it up it’s so good. All the best from the UK 🎉
Yes! Been waiting for something like this!
Oh looking forward to this one! Already learned so much with your previous videos!
Loved the boardgame as a kid. Now coming back to Risk.
got my first Grand Master kill in a classic fixed now! What a beautiful game with trust, alliances, defensive endgame & a plottwist. That strategy wouldn't have been played without our insights. Thanks Pete!
Welcome back!
So glad you did this! I've learned a lot watching previous videos, but hadn't picked up on the shortcuts and a few other basic mechanics of the game.
I'll make this part of a series so we can get new players up to speed quickly.
Thanks Pete! My son just got me playing this and I am hooked. You and Dr. Disrespect are the only 2 streamers I have been able to sit and watch 30mins plus of content.. well done on the video!
Dr. Disrespect lmao
I would expect a tutorial series will do well with views. Thanks for the content as always
Yeah man. I've been thinking about how I can add more value for the viewers.
hi just wanna say thanks ive played risk for years didnt know was on PC until i stumbled across ur youtube channel now im playing and im hooked
Yes! Welcome back to Risk
downloaded this game thinking it would be half dead but nice to see there is a community and one that seems to be growing which is nice cause the game is great.
I have been working very hard to keep the community alive and growing.
This sounds awesome, looking forward to watch this tomorrow after work.
Nice! Hope you like it
Glad you’re doing this tutorial series. I’m over the online stuff. I’m 3 and 22 I need some help understanding some of this. Also I did get baited into a couple 1 v. 1 and I’m gonna look out for that now.
For sure. I figure this will be to help more folks get up to speed.
Thank you, always needed to learn more about the game
🙏 you're welcome
Thanks! Your videos are helping me learn the game.
Glad to help!
Amazing video, I am not interested in playing the game but enjoy watching professionals like you playing the game, so videos like these will help people like me better understand the game.
🙏
This was a fun one to watch! I absolutely enjoy watching you play, but this was exactly what I watch for. Your play by play as it were, what you think the player will do and why, as well as what you will or should do and why. It's also astounding how Australia takes is so frequently a loss for that player
Yeah Australia is frustrating for me. It's good but not as good as people think it is. And the fact that people think it is makes it bad.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy ...with blizzards on, sometimes there are multiple "Australias". 🙂
Great video- and I also learned where I was going wrong from this. I was doing ok with the diplomacy and card management, but was really missing out on the 'giving an adorable cat pre-match tummy pats'. I'm not making that mistake again!
Obv.
Also make sure that cat is a Risk Grandmaster.
Started today because of your channel. Wife thinks I'm crazy for ditching the new mw2 to start my risk career. Popped back into your channel just to find this video. Seems like I made the right choice 👌
Let's goo! Enjoy the ride.
One thing that was mentioned towards the end of the video, and Magenta touched on in a comment below is speed. It might not matter as much in early or mid games, because you still need the skill to actually make it too the end game. But once you hit that end game, speed can often make a big difference, especially if you're playing progressive or large maps (and it's almost vital if you're playing both progressive and large maps).
The very first thing any newer player should do (something I learned from Pete) is go into settings and turn off camera animation. That one little thing alone will give a measurable speed difference.
RiskyFil did a video discussing this, but a good example of this is Pete's round 6 world championship game, where Pierre misses the 70% by like literally a fraction of a second. That fraction of a second is the difference between Pete going home or ultimately going on to win the crown (or am I wrong about that? Would Pete still have made the semi finals if Pierre won that game?)
Also note that speed is a supplement to, not a replacement for, good strategy. Despite his slower speed (because I believe Pete said he was playing on mobile), and round 6 and semi final losses to Pete, Pierre still made it to the finals.
i love your videos pete!!!
Thanks bastard man!
That endgame was very entertaining. Fun video even for non-beginners.
I enjoyed!
I love how pink looked deceptively slow and beginner like until the last turn , completely smashed my assumptions. Nice video Pete, thanks.
Yeah man. He killed it. Played a great game
Well thank you for the kind words Sir :)
When I started playing risk I was very bad but I started watching your videos and became a lot better and got to rank expert.
Eyy
I appreciate this kind of commentary
🙏
Great video, Thanks Pete
🙏🙏
Heyyy Pete can't wait to see your vid on the new Portals
That will be a good one
Great video pete, red must be a master through attrition than skill because his Australia strategy was horrific for his level....your ability to play and talk is incredible sir 🙌
Thanks man. You do something every day you're bound to get better.
what is up risk Master :P congrats for your last tournament, that was a nice journey for me, i learned a lot
🙏🙏🙏
It’s cool you explained all these
Hey Pete, love the channel and the content. Quick question, where do you buy the emote packs? Specifically the general pack?
They rotate the emotes in the store randomly.
Pete, missing a heartfelt "risk taaakeeeeeeers" from you. Emphasis on the elongated second word is so crucially important to the success of this channel.
Wish you all the best, fellow taaakkeeeeeeerrrrrr.
Haha I like to change it up.
I nominate Pete to be our first Global Dictator
Bro you definitely don't want to give me any power.
(commented before watching)
Oh hey! That's what I've been looking for\hoping you had! Now I need a "how to control your emotions from moment to moment" tutorial 🤭
I need to allow my thoughts and strategy to flow and crash like water but I set like a rock when my frustration is spiked by my plans going sideways. Then I'll get annoyed and stop playing at all.
It only gets better as I get older. Mid twenties. And I'm at an advantage already understanding what's happening in my head.
I just can't figure out how to rationalising loosing, being wrong, feeling like I just had a bad plan, as part of a game\learning as much as id like.
The only answer I've figured out is:
Keep getting older and keep throwing yourself in while being conscious of controlling it.
It's hard to play strategy, card, RTS games I love and get over that hurdle when I know the out come may be frustration though.
Interestingly, I have little to absolutely no problem with this in person, table top setting. But certainly did when I was a little kid.
In person I just get that someone has to loose and my lose means my opponent gets to enjoy a win.
That and the social pressure keeps it in check I believe.
Figured I'm not the only one and someone may find this an interesting exploration of the problem. Plus it gave me an excuse to order my thoughts on the subject better. I respect your own ability to control your emotions and allow yourself the room to continually think clearly, and suspect it wasn't an instant thing, Pete. So a bonus if you find my own ramblings on the matter interesting.
Do you meditate?
That has been the key for me to notice my emotions with out reacting to them or being subsumed by them
Very nice video!
oooooooo good video
hi Pete I'm new at the online game, is there a moment when you explain how to act faster using keyboard shortcuts? I've lost a few games already not being able to finish my attack using the mouse because of the time limit.
Thx for this video Bro 😊
🙏🙏🙏
Sent this to a couple friends who are new to risk, let’s see how it goes!
I hope it helps!
Hey Pete, so glad i found youre channel (it blew up right in my face =)) what i dont get is, you get 6 troops from youre bonus and holding territorys, you trade in a 10 set plus 2 extra troops, but you only get to deploy 16 troops? kind regards
The +2 goes on that territory. You don't get to choose where it goes.
I'm already pretty good at the game I'm just watching cuz i find your voice pretty cool tbh.
Yo Pete, get into your youtube site. Where online do you guys play?
I stream my games on twitter and we organize them on discord.
Thx Pete, I really enjoyed this as I'm trying to get better. I just constantly keep getting 2nd.
Second is still pretty good on 6p
Subscribed!
Thanks for the tutorial sir
🙏🙏🙏
it was awesome
tks
Could you explain a bit more in depth how you get territory cards? Thanks in advance! Greater content learning so much
On 27:35 you lost equity by trading in the China card because you can hold it and guard it easily, love the vids Pete keep it up
That's true
I like Khans secret smile when he says “Don’t worry - China can be guarded easily”.
Feeling good to be one of the first lol, i really love your videos but never watched 1 live. When are you going live next?
Follow him on Twitch at thekillpetestrategy.
@@tharrrrrrr okay,thanks mate
I'm transitioning to a winter schedule now. I'll post it on twitch once it's made up.
Great video Pete, really helpful. One question, how do you attack so fast, it sounds like you are using the keyboard, but I cant figure out how that works????
Turn off camera animations in settings 👍
Click enter enter. Turn off camera animations in settings.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy Thanks Pete, that has doubled my speed, thank you very much 👍
You and Presidents Playdates are the only people I know who dare play this game.
Hahaha those vids are funny!
@@TheKillPeteStrategy Indeed they are!
Which mode is the best to climb with? I know what’s the funnest to you is traditionally the answer but looking for most consistent possibility.
The system just changed. I'm going to figure out what the most consistent settings are now.
Almost always more fun watching you than playing my sad little slow ass game. And I always give a gg at the end and have received only 1...
I try my best to be a good sport.
Nice video Pete, although at the start you went through each setting and just read out what they said.. i think for a beginners tutorial perhaps expand on what certain settings mean. For example differences between fixed and progressive card bonuses option
None the less, good job mate.
That's a good idea.
To everyone new, thanks to Pete I was able to rank up to Grandmaster
🙏🙏🙏
Hi! Around 26:29, why didn't Pete take Asia? Would this have overextended?
Oh is it because that'd be a threat?
Well played Pete
🙏
I have a question about rankings. I started playing Risk after watching your videos. I had only played the board game before and I'd loved it. I set a goal of getting to grandmaster by playing classic fixed :D I somehow ended up with two accounts, one on mobile and the paid one on computer. Now the account on computer says I'm intermediate, but my ranking is 27000. Are there separate rankings for different classes? Or maybe this is just some kind of a bug.
There was a reset recently. It will return to about where it was once people repopulate the leaderboard with their accounts.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy Oh ok I see. I did notice that my mobile account had a rank of 0 😂 Thanks for the clarification
Hi Pete, I noticed that you didn't dab when white hit 69 troops which seems pretty unusual for a top player. Is that just because this was a beginner's guide and that's more of an advanced tactic?
Haha I actually don't have the dab emote on that account.
As a new player there are some 'trailer' games. Its easy when you are big, but then there is the mission '1 land vs the world', 'the world vs 1 land' and there is a game vs zombies.
I am curious if you can win them and what youre thoughts are during those games. With do and donts
I have won these before. I should probably put together a tutorial video for them.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy I think a tutorial on these 2 scenarios would be a bad idea. I probably played the World vs 1 Bot territory 30 times before I won. Now I can probably win about half the times I play (or perhaps more often). I learned a lot by playing these so many times. By trying and failing I learned a LOT about how Bots play. I'm actually glad that I didn't find a tutorial after I lost the first 20 times!
if you dont have to worry about time, would not using blitz roll increase armies over time? it would reduce the armies lost, after 6 or 10 rounds, it may give plus 5, compared to a blitz roll?
True random give and takes away equally over time. Balanced blitz gives advantage as long as you maintain advantage.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy thanks did not know that,
Why did you choose to leave 9 troops in NA at 29:50?
34:45 “sometimes you just have to let people hit you and not react”. Original quote Mike Tyson. Wait…
Wow I would’ve thought you had all the boards by now. Noticed a lot of them are locked lol
I’m excited to learn the hold Asia strat. It’s worth the most so had to be the key to winning. Maybe that will be next video.
No Asia no win! 😂
I'll try my best!
seeing Pete take second place makes me feel better about my Risk playing. lol.
Yeah man. I lose a lot.
Still learning all the time
Hi, so do i get risk on googleplay? Should i signup for google pass for all games. Miss this game usdd to play all the time as table game. Still have game with wood pieces!
You can get it on steam
As a beginner, I would love to know how you decide where you put your stack. When I played a few games I discovered that it can be vital at certain parts of the game (I got my stack locked in my own territory at some point, unable to break a continent).
I try to figure out what my opponents want and how to give it to them
How do you speed attack (on pc)? Do you have a video on that? It seems like it should be straightforward but I haven't figured it out
enter
Turn off camera animations in settings.
Click enter enter.
I just had a genius game.
I acted like a new player because I am. But I "accidently" left troops right in front of my enemies stack. He attacked it. He could not resist taking a smaller stack.
But I had a trade in, so I took everything back and then some. I killed him before he could make a trade in of his own.
I accomplished the difference in trading in by making "newby mistakes" Like not attacking to get another card. Accidently leaving my troops on the other side and useless. And attacking another player but being 1 troop short of the kill.
He genuinely fell for each trap I set, and it cost him. I kept on saying Oooops.
Sneaky move
good vid
❤️
Nice chin. Also the most 2016 video ever in the best way ever
Oh hello Pete, the black player was me, haha! Got bemused that red allied with me, yet killed me off in Aus xD
Bro! Red did you dirty... Then I did you dirty. Sorry about the way that cookie crumbled for you.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy haha! All good and part of the game. I normally dont go for Aus, but I thought: Lets try. 🤣
@@henkmintjes4487 Yeah man. I never do anymore.
Drops on the same day the patch changes all the UI and locks fog/blizzards. 10/10 timing, no notes
How much is premium these days? It used to be around ten bucks
That speed advantage is why I don't play 60s or 90s games, 2+ mins is needed in the end game if you're a mobile player.
Yeah I think 90s would be better for tournaments until they can make mobile speed equal
i got a question about a bug, is it only me that get the bug in the midgame where you cant place troops or change faze? Like the country gets highlighted but there is no roller, and you cant klick on anything, nothing happens except the sound that you are klicking? if not then how do i fix it? anoying af when ur about to win a game :P
I've never gotten that one
need to hear what u thnk about these new portals they added
I'll do a vid on the new update.
@@TheKillPeteStrategyheck yeah
I thought that at the beginingn of game, the player chooses where they put down their armies?
Is it just random set up in online games?
Both options are possible
@@TheKillPeteStrategy Thanks
Extra shoutout to Kylted, also an incredible teacher
Yeah man he's great.
No Australia no win always works.
Lol clearly.
Four of the six players in this game took Australia at some point.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy Yes, but what area did purple defend at the end? Australia. Clearly the superior Africa.
How does the seasonal ranking work… I swear i was just 40,000 yesterday and now i’m rank 8,000
The leaderboard reset
Man. I need to watch these videos. I'm master lvl but I have the hardest time keeping it. I have had a rash of completely stupid players attacking me right from the beginning. Winning doesn't matter. All they care about is attacking me.
It does take a while to figure out what your opponents want. And sometimes people don't behave rationally.
how many different accounts do you have?
Six
Everyone knows Reggie is the true power behind the throne.
😻😻😻
🙏
Hey Pete, one idea I've seen in chess is the idea of a "speedrun" where you go from unranked to some rank.. might be interesting to see you go from unranked to grandmaster and talk about strategies as you move up (moving from basics to advanced concepts).
The problem with this is that the best way to speed run the Risk ranks is to farm noobs, and nobody wants to watch that. Not to mention the fact that Pete certainly wouldn't enjoy it.
Yeah man. I have a novice to gm rank up series on progressive and classic fixed.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy I wouldn't call that a "speed run" though.
19:45 how come you didnt take that last green spot in asia?
Asia is too powerful. Taking Asia in that moment basically forces someone to break me
Right after you guide the devs decide to update the game and make some of the stuff here obsolete :D
Lol it's too perfect
The reason you were ranked 0 is because Reginald is the best risk player so much so that He is off the charts
😻😻😻 undeniably.
Great content, just discovered your channel. Please, don't slurp into the microphone... can't tell you how distracting that is. Thanks in advance!!
That was the old mic. I don't think it's a problem anymore.
Hi Pete I just started playing after watching for a year but I've been getting hit hard by master rank players that always brake bonuses becouse they can have one but no one else not all of them but out the I would say 10 I've seen about half could you give me some insight
Do you play with alliances on?
@@TheKillPeteStrategy only a couple most games are no alliances but watching you Phil olive I would have thoght they would plan and do it to win but they normally plase lower
Spending hours on steam saying Australia play is a death sentence then in the tutorial gets the unlucky positions couldn’t write it better😂
I know eh! I'm happy with how that game went.
In my game, I defeated a character and got their cards, but didn't get an additional draft stage. Why might that be?
You have to have a forced trade, five or more cards to get the extra time
@@TheKillPeteStrategy AHA! That's really interesting. It means whether you "go for the kill" in a given turn depends on your total cards + their total cards.
❤️
❤️❤️❤️❤️
You needed to advise new players to use the dab emoji if 69 ever shows up as a troop count
We set the trend
