- In cockpit video from the back seat of Poker 1 taken during the Tornado GR4 Role Demo practise sortie at Southport on Friday 7 September 2102.
The video starts with the run in towards the beach and captures the entire sequence up to the pairs formation departure at the end of the show, although the departure was flown without the coordinated pairs roll due to low cloud.
The aircraft had departed from RAF Lossiemouth and after the practise they recovered to John Lennon International Airport in Liverpool. During the weekend, the crews took part in shows at Southport and Duxford and did 2 flypasts at Chris Evans' Carfest North event which was held in support of Children in Need.

I was there for the show. it was the best airshow display I have seen in decades. very nice to see the tonkas flown fast aggressive and noisey. it was totally stunning
That’s beautiful footage. I really like the fact the video doesn’t have any silly music on it. You just simply enjoy all the real sounds. Must have been awesome to watch from the ground. Excellent video!
Fantastic stuff!
There were years of life left in this jet, to be sure.
Rest In Pieces.
FANTASTIC! What a joy to be able to ride along in this great quality video. Thanks for posting this excellent film and the subsequent recovery back to John Lennon which is also brilliant! (So delighted it wasn't ruined with the addition of terrible music either!).
Pretty cool watching the wings move
his eyes are everywhere, can't imagine a pilot on a B.737 from London to Belfast being so aware of the environment around them. this guy is so involved in what's around him.
That's what's called a navigator / WSO with nothing to actually do because no-one is scheduled to die today! Keep his eyes open and tell the driver what to do next...
This pilot knows his Tornado! 👍
That fly on the inside of the canopy - you must have blown his mind !
Excellent footage, love it!
Becoming the show stopper at all events. Have a nice vid of the pairs arrival at Newcastle International for their display at the Sunderland Airshow 2012. With Air Traffic Control chat.
Wow great video, saw the pokers @ Bournemouth airshow last year one of the highlights of the show simply stunning.Great to see the skill these guys have with their aircraft it looks amazing from the ground look forward to seeing them in 2013 hopefully, keep up the good work :)
Excellent Got some great shots of you guys at Duxford this year!
wow wow and wow what a guy.
Whilst the pilot holds on and looks around during high-g turns, the rest of us would be unconscious in the footwell.
was a great show lads i was at south port
Awesome video, with that much head movement I'm surprised motion sickness doesn't kick in. Experience I guess.
Who else was watching the Fly on the canopy? ;-)
me, it can't stand g force at 4.24
seems to cope well with G+/- quite well
The Navigator that is chap.
Why does he always turns le head left or right by 4 hrs clock each time heading is changing ? The other aircraft position to avoid collision courses ? Thanks
I don't know the real answer. But for this video I like to imagine that they spotted a sexy woman sunbathing and keep flying circles over the beach to get another look at her. The way his head moves with eager urgency :p
He's looking at the horizon to ensure that the aircraft is being flown correctly.
why does the noise get louder in a high g maneuver?
because of the force of the air rushing over the cockpit.
Would have been good to hear radio comms on this. I went for a flight in a Strikemaster recently and had a Go Pro camera rigged up with full comms recorded.
Git back round and fly straight over that building
Navigator.. He doesn't have his hands on any flight controls quite often. Looks that way to me..
waynester71 He doesn’t really need to for a display roll, plus he would only have reason to punch buttons if they were on a strike or exercise mission
Most prob because he ain't pulling 6 + g it's only a airshow demo raf aircraft are restricted speed for the public safety
I miss the old tonkas.a lot better display than the typhoon.noisy but so boring the display needs changing like a two ship role demo like the tornadoes did.even the reds have gone boring
