Kate (Joan) was a stunning woman back in this TV series. Would have been around 34 in this episode?? How about her eyes and smile at 1.06 🥰 Makes me smile 🤗 2 thumbs up from Down under Australia.
There's nothing racist about it. They give each other as good as they get. The British sense of humour as been taken away from us. Because of the do gooders of the world.
Couldn't agree more. I've been watching a lot of old comedies from both sides of the Atlantic and even the people who watched and laughed at these in the 70s, 80s and 90s have jumped on the band wagon and become activists against this type of comedy. Shows like Monty Python, Faulty Towers, Married with children and a host of other shows are now extremely controversial. I saw Blazing Saddles on TV a few months ago and after they had edited the film for today's audience, there was nothing left that was remotely funny about it.
Been watching this since over the first lockdown and recently started watching again. First time I saw it, I don’t think I paid much attention to the storyline. Eddie is a racist, and at first horridly dislikes bill to the point where he tries to get him and his wife evicted, starts a race riot and so on and so fourth. Later on you do see a change in Eddie where the racist language like in this particular episode is actually quite low. I suppose as both Eddie and bill became friends and put their differences to aside, they got on more. Whilst I wouldn’t call bill racist, he would get back at Eddie with exactly what Eddie threw at him which I suppose in a situation like that, is normal. At times actually, bill took the piss with eddies gullibleness and pranked him. I think one time specifically he pretended to cook Eddie in a cooking pot. Rudolph who plays bill said that he only agreed to the part if the show was perceived in this way and not one sided which I think after watching it more in-depth I think has done a very good job at showing that not only people of different skin tones can get along, but people on different political spectrums too - which in modern times is great. Unfortunately on the surface the show seems ironically pretty black and white and I think that’s why some people could find it racist. It was never seen as that, and even in the 90s when both actors spoke about it, they agreed that it wasn’t and they were vert happy to have done it.
It was racist. I wouldn't say they were good friends but they tolerated one another and overcame or at least learned to live with one another's differences
@@jamaicantillidie6626 I would say there's more preoccupation with race now then there was back then. But it isn't the sort of racism we saw in programmes like love they neighbour. Its seen in the black lives matter movenent, in coppers taking the knee, in the words kill whitey being considered ok to joke about. So many Ali Gs out there who think everyone's against them because they're black, brown, gay or trans. We supposedly live in more enlightened times but from where I'm sitting we live in a self pitying blame culture. The "social justice" movement divides people more than the old status quo ever did because the likes of Eddie booth were eventually won over whereas those obsessed with "social justce" are never satisfied, it starts with a demand for an apology for hurt feelings but continues like a battering ram of ever increasing demands. But positive discrimination is still discrimination regardless of the attempt to make it seem justified by prefacing it with the word positive.
@@catscan2022 no it wasn't racist just taking the mickey out of each other I think deep down they did like one another people focus on the racist thing to much

Bill and Barbie are more sophisticated than Eddie and Joan. Eddie thinks he’s better than them , but Bill always seems to come out in front. Great fun. I saw the play when it came to Australia years ago with this cast. I can’t remember the men in the bar in the play but definitely Bill , Barbie, Eddie and Joan.
I’m watching so many of these in a short time and I do notice some themes repeating in different episodes - a planned scrap between the two of them has been done twice before and a few seem to be about planning day trips and excursions. I suppose it was less obvious back then when you had no way of seeing episodes back to back.
I love this show. It shows how ridiculous the concept of "racism" is. I personally don't think it exists. It's merely a manufactured excuse to hate on an insignificant level. Can you change your pigment? Other than tanning and bleaching smart asses. I only avoid ignorance. Although, I find it very educational and comical. "Love wastefully"✌️

If only.

Timeless priceless quality comedy that's warm and fun.
Wouldn't call it timeless...

Neither of the wives are racist, that makes the show all the funnier.
