- Ever wonder what is a "humper jumper" or what is even the purpose of a "walking foot" ? This video is for you! I'll demonstrate both pieces of equipment on a domestic machine to show you how to use them and explain their purpose!

Thank you❣️ I’m a “hobby” seamstress for 50 years. I recently discovered “the humper jumper” in my machine drawer & 🤔. ( novelette incoming) My Son in Law, about 5/6 years ago asked if I would make him a T-shirt quilt. I’m NOT a quilter. I decided to use a quilt as you go method. I made him 2 & honestly I’m happy but ran into the “problems” you described. I just hand stitched where the machine skipped. His Mom saw them & asked if I would make her one with her Mom’s shirts that she has been holding onto for 15 years.

Could I also make 1 for her sister & she has her dad’s shirts 🤦🏻♀️.

This little hump jumper is saving some of us a ton of money. I make a lot of handbags and this is going to work great.
Thanks for this tutorial! I ordered a humper jumper and a walking foot and it's supposed to be coming in today. I can hardly wait to try it. I'm trying to connect two pieces of bias tape over three layers of fabric, tucking the top piece under to create a finished edge. I can't get my machine to start feeding, even when I tried to help the fabric through. Also, my machine does not have a pressure foot pressure adjustment. Ugh! Now, I'm hearing, in this video, that I should not be forcing the fabric through because it can strip my feed dogs. Thanks for the warning! I didn't hear about the humper jumper until just after I ordered the walking foot; but I got an inexpensive one, and I'm sure I'll find other uses for it, at some point. It probably would have come in handy when I was trying to connect to pieces of high pile velvet together.

I think the fabric that you used to sandwich the piece of foam was interesting and as an amateur purse maker (I have sewn a few dozen 5-6oz leather messenger bags (all unlined)) Now I am experimenting with drop in liners in tote bags and boxed corner purses. Zippers' are something else (grr) Last month I bought a Cobra class 26 leather sewing machine and today I was recommended to purchase a hump jumper while I was working on a Maggy 55 "Casey boxed corner bag". My Cobra 26 had issues going over a few layers.
I couldn’t find anything called the humper jumper but I did find,on Amazon, a HUMP JUMPER and it’s the same thing, just in case anyone else had trouble finding it. Thank you so much for demoing this neat tool! Also found it on eBay.

You made me giggle when your foot did not work as you expected, but I find that shiny vinyl needs a Teflon foot and the non-shiny seems to work fine...at least on my Brother. Different story on the Viking. Thanks for the video.

Love that fabric:) It would make a beautiful shopping bag. When do you use your Juki walking foot machine instead of your walking foot presser foot on your Janome?
I use the Juki for heavy duty bag sewing and the Janome for some lightweight stuff like pockets and smaller zippered bags.
@@fiercekittenz When you say heavy duty, do you mean faux leather and faux fur? The Janome handled the thick layers in this videos beautifully. Where do you draw the line between when to use the Juki or the Janome?
@@mariannem8419 I mean faux leather + several interfacings. I also like to use Tex 90 thread, which I cannot really use in a domestic machine.
Do you prefer and use the walking foot or the Teflon w jumper? I have walking foot but have issues on final topstitching. Maybe jump jumper would be better?
I prefer the teflon foot with the jumper, to be honest. I only use the walking foot on the Janome if I'm doing something like quilting.
yeah...need that '' humper jumper'' for my domestic. My barracuda 200zw walking foot is doing the trick , tho but I use it only with leather because it is very VERY noisy loll ...portable...but noisy lol )

Yes you can! I just demonstrated the walking foot and such on the domestic, because on an industrial machine "walking foot" is a touch more complex.
