Tips on How To Make Bag Stitches LESS Obvious!
hello there! very nice video--you make me want to go out an buy some waxed canvas to play with...but i have such a huge stash of all kinds of stuff right now that i just GOTTA use a few pieces before i go out and get more!!! love your channel...i have a couple of questions for you. i am REALLY interested in making structured handbags out of faux leather--what is best to use for stiffener for the sides/bottom of the bag? is Peltex a viable option? in several other videos i have watched, something referred to as 'chipboard' or 'purseboard' has been mentioned; do you know what that is and where i could source it? can it be sewn through? i have a juki tl2010q machine and of course even though i'm a newbie (to pursemaking not sewing) i want to jump in and start with the 'hard stuff'--it's just my nature! any recommendations would be appreciated. thank you!
It really depends on the size of the bag and its shape. Sometimes Peltex is enough and then other times you need the board substitute. I’ve never made a bag large enough that needed that at the bottom.
Do you find the Fume Extractor works well? I've heard from other owners that it was a waste of money.
I do, but I don’t cut wood often. Wood would be the biggest offender for smoke and fumes. Usually I’m cutting fabric and it’s sufficient.
Thank you
I just use my vacuum hose😊
I used to have a little device that would pop on to the end of my vacuum! I should get another one.
I'm back, any advice for getting axis error repeatedly? needle is going off axis right in the seam....i've done every tip i've seen on yt and it's still an issue....so frustrating. everything should be good! It's not even flagging....so what could be causing this? please and thank you <3
I hate to ask, but have you called support?? I called them up and we facetimed fixing it remotely.
So glad I found you, your tutorials are so easy to follow! Have a multi needle embroidery machine that is still waiting to land on its stand💪Doing research in the meantime to figure out what would be the best software to use. In your opinion and Ignoring pricing, what are the pros and cons between Embrilliance and Hatch. Your tutorials make Hatch seem “simple” to use in that one could learn to use the program fairly quickly. My future goal is to learn to digitize, mostly for our staff T’s and hats, but baby steps first. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!
I haven’t ever used Embrilliance so I’m not sure how it compares :( admittedly I got Hatch waaaaaay back from a friend who worked there. It was their beta build. When it went live I bought a copy right away. I love working in it, but again, I have no comparison. I’m sorry I’m not much help here.
Thanks for taking the time to reply! Your confidence with the software is enough for me to make my informed choice😀
I’ve been wondering how some of these Facebook groups can sell (make?] vinyl with well known logos and get away with it. I’ve joined a few of these groups, then saw what they were producing and promptly left. I just wanted cute vinyl. I didn’t want to get sued! Thanks for explaining. Turns out my intuition was correct.
They are usually “hidden” or invite-only groups. This conversation is surfacing again so it’s important to remind people to speak with an IP lawyer to get real answers if anything seems cloudy. Oh, and I’m not innocent at all. I’ve used unlicensed materials before. I won’t list it on my shop or sell at a market. Usually it’s for friends or family.
I love my htvront heat press too!! Great video ❤️
Honestly wish I had room for two.
Heyo! My husband is a computer engineer too! And that's the story of how I jailbroke my circuit.
HAHA!!!
I am just a sewing hobbyist but this video has inspired me to put "Hail Satan" tags on everything I make.
DO IT!!!
Silence of the Lambs reference was not something I expected on my bag sewing journey, but I fucking love it. <3
Love how you do videos and the amount of information was awesome! Great personality! <3
Thank you for this informative video! Do you happen to have wholesale supplier you use for your bagmaking supplies, most especially fabrics and vinyl?
I have a supplier video where I cover this and give all the names and links!!! I’m on a plane right now or I’d grab the link for you.
Work smarter, not harder! :)
I....might need to do this!
#GuiltyAsCharged
Thanks a LOTTT!!! 🎉
Really helpfull
I didn’t think about the small tags and the anxiety! I bet that’s been my issue!
I appreciate you so much for the information on your CZcams bag making website
Not surprised to find out that my new favorite craft person is a software engineer. 🙃
22 years so far!
I love your videos!! I love the way you teach and your sense of humor!!! You are amazing and talented!!
You’re a hoot. I’ve been binding bags tons but have never used FOE. I’m going to try it. Thanks for the laughs tonight.
I live in AZ and while I love the look I’ve been afraid to try using it. Crayons left in the car was a scary thought when my kids were little. I’m afraid if the bag got left in the car, I would never get the residue off of my upholstery anyone have experience with it in significant heat?
The number of door handle "goldfish storage cubbies" I've had RUINED from restaurant crayons over the years I lived in TX is tooooo daaaang hiiiigh!!!
Thank you. Good information 😁💕
What made you do the Tumblr at 335° and then for a minute? I do my tumblers at 375 for 75 seconds and I don’t rotate it when I’m using a 20 ounce tumbler like you did in this video. I am new to this so I thought I would ask. I just use what the machine settings said to use. Thanks
I'm just learning in this video, so you're probably in the right and just need to leave it be. The temp and time guidance I got from the HTVRont website for their tumblers, but I've since learned that ghosting is going to happen if you press a second time. I've ALSO learned that the black ink can stagnate if you don't print for a while :(
The examples are so helpful!
I'm with you! Designing patterns for just my use is hard enough, plus going through the testing phase which take so much time and mental energy. I never really trust someone who doesn't design and create things themselves to appreciate the work that goes into it.
Great video!
I used an industrial machine for 13 years at Disney, and now with my domestic machine I feel like I'm watching paint peel, but If I buy another machine my kids will think I'm running a sweatshop!
I am green with jealousy over you having worked for Disney!!! I only sew and create content for fun, but I'd probably drop everything for Disney! I know how you feel about a domestic machine. The only reason I downgraded from the Janome M7 to the Janome HD9 was because I felt like the M7 was too computerized for me. Also I didn't use half of the stitches. Totally wasted on me!
@@fiercekittenz I envy your equipment! I have a Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 which I bought on Amazon, and even though I know it would be a brick if it ever quit working with no authorized service centers that work on it around here, but I love it! Also have a vintage Singer 15-90 which I also love, plus a Singer HD 4423, a Cover stitch, Simplicity portable blind hemmer and a Brother serger (hence the sweatshop accusation)😁 but Alas! no industrial machine. Besides the speed and power, the thing I miss most about not having one is they don't make 'toothpick" presser feet for domestic machines. Yes, Disney was a fantastic place to work. That was 25 years ago when I left. Costuming dept has been gradually outsourcing to avoid paying benefits. Unfortunately, it's the way of the world.
I love your videos! They are so helpful and informative.
Hi I'm using the riser. Where do I attach the screen print adapter left or right?
I don't have the riser :( But I attached on the left (my left, not the machine's).
I absolutely love your channel!! As a new bag maker your channel has been immensely helpful. You’re my kind of people.
I've been fortunate enough to find a niche, nobody is making what I make and all my patterns are made by me
You’re awesome! But then you knew that already.😉 Seriously, thank you for speaking your mind. I hesitated about sewing bags because cause of the market, but I’ve decided to make what I am wild about and sell them. There are at least 100 plus people (conservative) who would be interested.
Did she just say "teeth pulled at a Yani concert"?
yes, yes I did
@@fiercekittenz My simple response to that is just LOL!
Spot on!!!!!
Quality❤
Is this an ai voice
Yeah it's a filter on text-to-speech! I made the video using TikTok's app. I tried to voice over but I sounded super rough that morning.
@fiercekittenz oh okay! Also not trying to be mean just curious 😅
@@Hallow_wcue TOTALLY FINE!!! I know CZcams has new rules about declaring AI generated content, so I went to make sure that the text to speech doesn't break any rules. Thankfully, it doesn't! I hate GenAI anyway.
I’ve been seeing for awhile, but when I first started, the market was not saturated in my niche. Then it became saturated, so I leaned into Japanese fabrics and here I am still! (Though after one of my first events, TWO separate makers came out with a remarkably similar tote bag two weeks afterwards, and that has been stuck in my craw for awhile. I get there is only so many ways to fold fabric, but come on! 😹)
Japanese fabrics are so beautiful! I wish I had a place where I could shop locally for them. I like to actually handle fabric before I purchase unless I know exactly what it is when I'm ordering online.
@@fiercekittenz I do, too…so I go to Japan to buy my fabric! 😅 I’m a knitter, and my niche market is fibre artists, so I understand the need for the tactile experience of buying! And, I was an exchange student in Osaka, so it’s an excellent reason to go back now! Started going to cute cat fabrics, stayed for everything else! I also upcycled obi and kimono into handbags and accessories. ❤️
Great video on waxed canvas! I have been using waxed canvas for bag making for several years now and sew with industrial machines. The first waxed canvas that I had tried came from a local fabric store and it was a marginal quality product. I then purchased waxed canvas from Sailrite, and their product is wonderful. Sailrite offers two varieties: a Heavy Waxed Canvas and a Light Waxed Canvas. In both products the canvas is the same weight. However, what makes them different is the weight of wax applied to each square foot of material. So, a lighter weight and a heavier weight material. Also, contrary to what a person may think, Sailrite offers a canvas basting tape does actually work fairly well on waxed canvas to hold zippers in place during assembly. Anyway, that’s my 2 cents worth relative to waxed canvas. Keep on sewin’!
Best needle for working with it? Also have you embroidered on it?
I HAVE embroidered it! It wasn't interfaced at the time, so the mediumweight cutaway stabilizer was fine. I didn't change my needles. They were still 75/11. For my sewing machine it really depends on how heavy everything is after it's been interfaced and sewn to another thick fabric panel. I almost always sew my heavier bags (canvas and beyond) with a size 21 needle, but that's on my industrial Juki.
Thanks for the tips! I have a piece of waxed canvas planned for a bag. Glad I saw this before ruining all my marking tools!
Thank you soooooo much for this I have struggled sewing vinyl for years
I love you ❤️💕😘 !! Such a gift
Thank you for the info.
On a similar pursuit, is it "legal" to purchase fabric that has copyrighted images/characters, and then make that fabric into various items to be sold? Presumably stores such as Walmart, Joanne, Hobby Lobby etc have already paid licensing to sell the fabric which they know people will make things with.
Yes! That is "First Sale Doctrine" in a nutshell.
@@fiercekittenz This is interesting - I hadn't heard that term before. I'm still unsure about it though - couldn't a cartoon character company claim that the goods made from the licensed fabric would confuse the public into think the items were actually made by or endorsed by that cartoon company? I'm going to contact them directly and get their opinion.
Update - I have read that trademarked fabric usually has printed at the edge: "For Personal use only" which would mean no commercial selling of whatever you make.
@@DesignCutters May want to talk to a lawyer, because the whole reason we have First Sale Doctrine is because Disney lost a lawsuit pretty badly some years ago.
Thanks for sharing. How do you package your bags for delivery to customers?
It depends on the bag, but I always put them in a plastic bag to protect them from the chance that the box rips open.
@@fiercekittenz thanks, would be helpful if you do a video on this
Love it!!
OMG thank you so much! This is sooooo useful! I've been using my Cricut to cut applique shapes, which I LOVE but had no idea I could do something similar with PDF patterns. WOW!! So glad I found your channel!!
More material reviews, please. I love it.
Absolutely! Are there any in particular you're interested in learning more about?
@@fiercekittenz yes, please tell us more about the types of interfacing and when to use them.
@@dannysant I have a whole video on that already! Check it out!
I’m curious what it’s like to use waxed canvas if you live in a place that gets over 100 degrees F in the summer, meaning will anything happen to the texture of my bag if I carry it outdoors for a couple hours.
Nah probably not, but I am not sure I'd leave it sitting in a hot car or in direct sunlight - speaking purely as someone who tested the "can I bake cookies on my dashboard" when I lived in TX.
Thanks. I’m moving back to AZ, and it seems that you understand exactly the kind of temperature I mean.
