You could argue that Rex’s “defectiveness” was due to him serving under Anakin vs Obi-wan. With Anakin’s unorthodox command style, Rex could have picked that up and adapted to be more independent.

TheSunkenCommander True to a certain extent. In a war of attrition which the clone wars was. You want bodies to form lines of fire and stop the other overwhelming likes of fire from coming through. If you look at world war 2 tactics, which George Lucas was heavily influence by. You could see he was trying to push the same narrative and strategy. Now I’m not saying officers and soldiers weren’t creative during the world war 2 days. What I’m saying is that in the war of attrition. You don’t need everybody thinking. You need everybody pointing a weapon in a single direction and firing until they can’t fire no more. That’s why the kaminowins didn’t want individual thinking if you study the doctrine on attrition warfare.

when making the clone wars animated movie, Alpha was supposed to be in the movie but Lucas decided to put Rex in because Anakin, Ahsoka Alpha would make it too many alliteration . So in that sense, Rex is basically the canon version of Alpha. I just think Rex just has a little more of the Jango gene in him that make him think more than most of clone counter part.

@@HIPEOPLE1887 my heart wants to agree but the show and Disney as a whole it's about different characters. We see Ahsoka a little and she goes hard in her scenes so thats pleasant. But realistically do we see an aging Rex being the hero of the rebellion? I thought the one clone war episode was cool, we see his interactions with Saw and we hear at the very end that he went to do more. On Kanan I just gotta disagree, being a padawan during TCW his distrust is warranted. Keep in mind also Kanan was against joining the whole military thing to begin with. I would love more Rex because he is that dude, but I have to disagree that he needed to do more.

Tup_Daily He for sure had ARC training but he was definitely not an Alpha ARC. Rex is good at what he does no doubt, but due to the the god tier lethality of Alphas and their small numbers (only 100 bred in an army of 100s of millions), they sent Alphas on one man missions across the galaxy as it would be a complete waste to stick one under a Jedi General. It was said in the RC books that one Alpha Arc could survive on a separatist held planet himself for months on end w/o support and still be disruptive.

I contest him being defective from Kaminoan pov. You have countless hints of this throughout the clone wars series.
In the start hes pretty similar to say Cody but quickly after getting told by Anakin to act more independent and constantly gets backed by both Ahsoka and Anakin which is his closest officers.
Later Kenobi outright tells Anakin its dangerous to let the clones have that much independence and tries to make Anakin see his point through Cody. Same episode Rex saves Cody because of his independence and Kenobi has to eat his words in the end while throwing in "sometimes" according to the benefits of independence.
Biggest hint of them all is from Rex himself: "Experience outweights everything".
He was probably the single only clone given free independence from his Jedi officials and the amount of freedom he got experienced with helped him see things other clones never could. He is the perfect clone, one who grows with the responsibility he was left with because of the freedom he had in his post, which is also why I think he declined his promotion, cause he knew he couldnt continue the way he had in a higher position with even more responsibility but with less freedom and independence.

so there was a new episode of bad batch like, a few hours ago, and i just watched it. it confirms that rex is Gen 1 and clearly some form of commando unit judging by his uses, ability, and independence. many of those were different batch to batch, as few as a dozen clones could share a pattern or as many as thousands and the earliest stages they were experimenting a lot with behaviors as the original subject, jango, would have made for rather poor troopers. its likely hes something like a Null ARC, but the first time they tried to make one a commander. he clearly shows leadership which means he isnt a null or similair but he also leads and shows a lot of jango which makes me think his behavior isnt as modified as later versions, more like they highlighted one aspect just to see how it turned out. a lot of the iffy clones like that went on to become notable members of the grand army. and yeah, i know the legends stuff isnt all canon but lacking any better material its what we got. plus it makes the most sense in terms of how cloning would actually work and the logical steps the kaminoians would take, they did not seem like the type to understand why humans were such great warriors. So defective is likely a strong word as not every clone was the same, especially those in elevated roles over the average trooper. ones like rex who stood out even among their fellows likely had the rare training, raising, and genetic code that we just didnt see often because there were so few. it is canon that Jango trained a handful of clones personally who went on to become the best of the best, i think cody and wolf were in that batch but it has been a LONG time since i read it. however they were all noted to be the best of the best clones and all held appropriately high rankings

*Didn't he remove his chip shortly before The Bad Batch arc? Because when you watch the end of the final episode of that arc, even though it's rough animatics, you see Rex with a scar on his head when he turns his head back toward the camera right before the arc concludes. Even though it's all unfinished, that scar looks KIND OF like a scar on his head. Hope the final season clearly shows/gives us an official explanation as to how Rex was able to not succumb to Order 66!!! ;D*

Xarvis90 I’m not the only one who believes that’s a scar. Look at the comments section below the last episode of that Bad Batch arc and you’ll see. And rewatch that same scene at the end where Rex looks back towards the camera while you’re at it!! ;)

Xarvis90 Focus on the side of his bald head, might be a scar there!! Hope they make it clearer when it’s all FULLY PRODUCED!!! 😃😃😃

I’m watching this when the first episode of season 7 came out and the trailer they made for it really supported this with how he was questioning how he feels about the war

I think Rey is a defective force user, she is way to powerful for a beginner

Ah, finally: a video about a theory that’s actually structured like one rather tham trying to convince people it’s true!
I’m on board with this, it only makes logical sense!

Another hint at this theory could be the fact that he was able to resist the order 66 protocol long enough to warn Ahsoka and tell her to “Find Fives”. Which compared to other “Regs” like Cody, Gree & Jesse didn’t or couldn’t resist the Order.
